So my 8 year old niece and I have been having a big debate LOL!

We are going to DL Dec 6-8, the 8th being my birthday! I say I get a birthday button on Saturday when we get there and enjoy 3 days of birthday happiness. The 8 year old thinks that is cheating and I should only wear the button on my actual birthday :(

I say I am right don't you??? :)

Hey, a birthday celebration does not have to be only one day!! When I go to Disneyland for a birthday celebration (even a couple weeks after my actual birthday), I wear a birthday button while I am there. I am celebrating!!! ::yes::

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Have a great birthday and celebrate as long as you like!! :cool1: :cool1:

You can where it as much or as little as you want. You could perhaps attempt to convince her to see your side by reminding her we celebrate birthdays on more that just the actual day, with birthday parties that don't always fall on the actual birthday... ;)

I knew I would get support here! LOL!!

Thanks everyone! I am celebrating as much as I can!!!pixiedust:

I would wear it the whole time too. Just explain to her that you are going to be celebrating the whole time you are there.:cool1::joker:

This is ironic, because I just popped over here from the WDW forums, in the Theme Park section. There is a LONG, heated argument about the "validity" and "ethical" question of wearing a birthday button when it's not actually your birthday.

My feeling - do what you want and don't worry about what anyone says! It's not like you're claiming it's your birthday and expect free airfare, hotel stays, and dinner for it. You're celebrating your birthday - do what makes you happy.

Incidentally, I celebrated my first Disney birthday in 2013, at Disneyland. I wore my birthday ears hat, light up "it's my birthday" necklace and birthday pin the entire 3 days we were there. My Dad kept calling me a liar until the last day, which was actually my birthday.

This year I spent my second Disney birthday at Walt Disney World. I felt like wearing the hat and button for 9 days was kind of pushing it so I saved it for my actual birthday.

Seriously, do what YOU want because it's YOUR birthday. And have a great time!

We went over Halloween for a 40th birthday trip for me - but my 40th birthday wasn't until November. You better believe, though, that I wore that birthday pin every day of our 3 days there!!! :-)

Well, it is a birthday TRIP right?
Celebrate the whole time!

Now that I think about it, we're planning a trip next year, maybe October 3-9. My birthday is the 14th. Maybe I should do something for my bday while in Disney.

Tell your niece, the older you are, the longer you get to celebrate! :thumbsup2 It's your birthday trip so celebrate as long as you want! :)

Well, it's YOUR birthday. If you will be celebrating it the whole three days, then it's bonafide. If you're just going to put it on your purse and forget about the button and act bewildered when people notice it and say HB to you, then don't wear it. (it's unbelievable how many people do this...or kids and families who are appalled that others might notice and say HB, etc)

If the niece doesn't want to celebrate her birthday for 3 days, then she doesn't have to. But if you want to, then do it. In our family, DH likes to celebrate for ages. DS and I are one-day-and-done. IF we wear them at all. It was interesting on our first big trip, when we had waited to celebrate our anniversary so we could celebrate it at the parks, once I couldn't deal with it anymore and took off the button, but DH still had his Happy Anniversary button on....

At World, at least in the past, you could get freebies more than you could ever get them at Land, though. So there is a bit more "at stake" than free birthday wishes. There you have the small possibility of free cupcakes and such.

If you want to prove it to your niece, take her with you to City Hall and tell the CM "it's not my birthday yet, it's on Saturday, but can I get a button now?" I guarantee you'll get your button, and most likely the CM will be getting it out for you before you finish the sentence.

I wore mine the day or two before my birthday and the day of. But by the last day (the day after my actual birthday) I was "Happy Birthday'd out" and took it off.

It's your choice, of course! My *personal* thought is that I choose a day to celebrate as my birthday and wear it for just that day. I sort of agree with your niece, to tell you the truth. It doesn't matter if it's not your actual birthday, but doing it day after day...not for me.

Here's why. If you're with other people and every day you've got the birthday button on, the focus of attention will always be you. I've never thought that seemed fair to the other people in my party, especially kids.

You can always get an "I'm Celebrating" button for the two days that it is NOT your birthday, and a HB button for your ACTUAL birthday-day.

What a GREAT idea! I could see both sides to this, and your solution seems Practically Perfect in Every Way!

And....:bday:

You know, I spent my 43rd birthday at Disneyland and my 44th at Walt Disney World. At Disneyland I got birthday cupcakes at both Goofy's Kitchen and Ariel's Grotto. Since both of them have dessert included in the price, I can't say they were "free" but they came out and sang the funny birthday song and it was super cute. At Blue Bayou, they brought me out a birthday mousse - and I kind of wish they didn't because I already ordered dessert! I would have been happy if they just stuck a candle in my piece of cake that I ordered. And lots of people (including Tiana in the parade) said Happy Birthday to me.

At Walt Disney World, Cast Members (especially college program kids) said Happy Birthday to me all day. But we had dinner at Les Chefs de France, and NOT ONCE did anyone acknowledge my birthday. We were on the dining plan, so I wasn't expecting a freebie, but a candle stuck in the cake I already pre-paid for would have been nice. But NOTHING.

So, so far, on the Birthday Cool Stuff scale, Disneyland wins.

We went for 3 days for my DD's birthday. I asked this question before we had our trip and I got the same answers - do what you want. I figured that I would let my DD decide what she wanted to do.

When we were checking into the DLH, our CM was "earning his ears" and the trainer actually got a Birthday Button out and wrote my DD's name on it. They both made a big deal of my DD's birthday. My DD got a picture signed from Goofy. That night when we returned from the Parks, there was Mickey and Minnie Cookies and milk, a note and a picture signed from the Pooh characters. Everyone who saw the button, CM's and guests, wished my DD a Happy Birthday! The next day, my DD's actual birthday, we had breakfast at Surf's Up. She received a special cupcake with a candle and a song. Stitch played a lot with her as he is one of her favorite characters and the reason we had breakfast there. My DD's favorite pictures are of Stitch photo bombing the pictures we were taking of the other characters. Stitch photo bombed a picture with each of the other characters. As we were leaving Stitch communicated that DD needed another picture with Mickey so he could photo bomb it. We had an early dinner/late lunch at Carnation Cafe and our Waitress recognized my DD's birthday with Tinkerbell lightup on her drink and a cupcake. The next day we had breakfast at Goofy's Kitchen. Again my DD received a cupcake and a song. Goofy kept coming over to our table and interacting with my DD. All in all, we had a great time.

Oh, my DD went to the front desk to tell them "thank you" for the cookies and milk. The CM asked what her plans were for the day and my DD mentioned that she was going to view WOC that night. We got a call later and the CM had made arrangements for my DD and I to have VIP seating for WOC.
