The Good, The Bad and The Ugly at the F&W!

They are really bad with this stuff this year! They told us the 3 Sisters Soup IS vegetarian and our friends even asked if it had chicken/beef stock. They consulted their book behind the counter and said nope-vegetarian.

I am so relieved to hear this! After I ate it, I got nervous about whether it had chicken stock. I didn't like it enough to order it again, but I'm relieved now that I don't have to wonder.

The samosas are one of my favorite things, and I think samosas are almost always vegetarian, and often vegan.

That's weird because the CM behind the counter appeared to be reading something when she told me the soup had chicken stock! I had asked the CMs taking the money (but I quickly learned the money-takers don't know anything about the food) and they referred the question back to the CMs in the food tent. The CM in the food tent then read the ingredients to me. I'm really confused now--Disney is usually really good about telling people what's vegetarian and what's not.

I don't have the definitive answer on the Three Sisters Soup (and haven't actually gotten to try the kiosks yet) but perhaps the CM was reading from the festival cookbook which has in the soup's ingredients "chicken or vegetable stock"? Hopefully the ingredients binder has what was actually used in the soup for the kiosk.

I have to say the one i disliked the most was the potato & leek soup, why was it cold? would of been so much better hot.

Loved the desserts in Australia Macadamia nut and chocolate bar and the pecan pie in Oklahoma.

We were there Friday and some of the things we really liked-cheddar cheese soup, potato leek soup, maple glazed salmon, lamb chops. Didn't care for ribs from USA-too bland and to much fat. Tomato mozzarella salad from Italy also very blah. Son also liked pot stickers and can't rem. what it was called now but it was the first booth on the far side away from Canada-spicy beef thing ?empanada I believe. It rained off and on so it wasn't crowded at all, lines were short and moved quickly, I mostly used my debit card and it was very quick, no issues with it.

I did not care for the California Strawberry shortcake at the American booth. There is a flavoring in the cake part that turned me off. The maple salmon at Canada is to die for.

The only thing I tried that I didn't finish was the Arroz con Pato from Peru. Loved the Buffalo.

USA The lobster roll was terrible, who the heck puts pickles in a lobster roll?? The BBQ rib was out of this world, the bone slid right off the meat clean, the meat was super tender and flavorful..the coleslaw was cold, crisp and very tasty.

TURKEY The baklava was small and a bit hard, it was just ok..Mororcco has much better baklava. The Manti, a beef filled ravioli with yogurt and paprika butter was delicious.

POLAND The pierogi was very good, the carmelized onions had great flavor and the kielbasa was good too..not greasy at all.

MOROCCO Bastilla, chicken in pastry. This was disgusting. The cinnamon and powdered sugar with the driest shredded chicken...one bite and it went in the garbage.

MEXICO Chilaquiles, tortilla with chicken and cheese. This was awesome! Got this a few times.

PERU/DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AREA Mango Daquiri. This was fantastic...tasted like a fresh ripe pureed mango with a rum chaser. THe banana one was super bitter and people were exchanging it for the mango.

IRELAND Boxty, potato pancake with bacon chips and kerrygold garlic and herb butter. This was not great at all, the butter was frozen so it did not melt.

INDIA Coconut rice pudding, this was nasty! It has the worst sour bite to it, I had to spit it out and pitch it.

GREECE Greek salad was awesome, nice spicy olives and super creamy feta cheese. The spanokoppitta was killer, packed with spinach and cheese.

Looks like you got a better greek salad than me. I wasn't as impressed this year as I was last year. I agree on the India pudding. I had it earlier this month and it was soo good, I had it again a week later and it was gross. It tasted like the fruit had gone bad or something and my tongue felt weird.

I'm going to have to go back and try the Chilaquiles. I keep hearing good things.

GERMANY Spaetzel with mushroom sauce, the first time we got this the spaetzel was hard and crunchy but the second time it was perfect, the mushrooms had huge flavor...yum! The sausage on the pretzel roll was very good and the apple strudel was to die for, I could have licked every bit of vanilla sauce off that plate.

FRANCE The sorbet trio with white chocolate (very ice crystally), raspberry (very sweet) and champagne (great when mixed with the rasberry). Escargot...omigod these are amazing! Nice earthy taste and heavy on the garlic butter.

ENGLAND Twinning tea stand. We had the Lady Gray, Indian Chai and Honeybush Orange...they were all fantastic and very refreshing.

DOMINCIAN REPUBLIC Coconut flan, this was a small portion but huge on taste, we ate two of them!

CHILE Tomato, corn and garbanzo bean stew. This was a huge portion and was delicious!

ARGENTINA Spicy beef empanada..this was great but not that spicy to me

SOUTH AFRICA Durban chicken, this was fantastic! Served with extra sauce on a grit cake...YUMMY!

Having been to every FWF since 1997, and watched them go steadily downhill, this year's effort is an improvement over the past couple of years.

I've been twice and will go again before it's over.

I enjoyed the duck with rice at Peru very much. It was spicy and a fairly large portion.

The escargot are wonderful. Perfectly cooked and very addicting!

The seafood salad at New Zealand is wonderful too. Not heavy on mayo (none in fact) perfectly chilled and very fresh tasting.

I hated the samosa from India. It was horribly mushy and had a pasty bland taste.

The Moroccan bastilla was awful too. No flavor and no moisture what so ever.

The Peach Buckle from Oklahoma was a surprise. I expected to dislike it, but it was tasty and not too dry. It would be nicer with some warmth to it and a bit of cream.

I loved the spaetzle and mushroom ragout from Germany (and the pretzel and sausage)! I could eat plates of that! LOL.

Can't remember what else I had, but most of it was lovely.

We thought the Lobster Roll was a good value, especially since it was just one credit on the dining plan.

The spicy beef empanada was fantastic!

The Cheddar Cheese Soup is something I'd skip next time, it was a very tiny portion, just half the cup was full.

We'll be going back for the Festival's last weekend....I want to try the foods at the India booth this time!

I highly recommend both the curried butternut squash soup and the samosa. The samosa was tasty and the soup was absolutely delicious and both are vegetarian.

We just returned last week. It was myself, 15 yr old son and 2 little DD's. We had the following:

Japan- crispy sukiyaki beef roll, we both really enjoyed these.

France-Quiche au Fromage de Chevre, Myself and the 2 yr old loved it.
Coupe de Sorbets: Champagne, Framboise, & Chocolat Blanc, loved
it.

South Africa-Durban Spiced Chicken on a Skewer, we enjoyed this as well.

Italty- Pizza, my 15 yr old liked it but didn't love it.

I'm afraid that was it for us. The day we made the lap it was blistering hot and very crowded. Columbus Day week I guess. We will return to this in Oct '09 but later in the month. My husband will be with us that trip and he would really enjoy it.

Yum, looking forward to both!! We are planning to nosh around the world on Thursday Nov. 8th and I will definitely hit the India booth then. Friday and Saturday we have ADRs for dinner but might end up cancelling them if we decide to just tour the F & W Fest booths again!
