the good and the bad of August

I am rethinking my mid-June trip and considering mid-August instead. I know that August will be very warm, is it comparable to September? I am also wondering if the crowds are at their summertime worst in August? How would you compare mid-August crowds to mid-June crowds? I appreciate everyones opinions. Thanks!
