We are going to WDW in Sept and DH wants to fly (I prefer driving so I can pack the car with a bunch of stuff..the way there and home!).

We called WDW and they gave us flight prices of about $860 round trip, non stop flight.

So what kind of fees can we expect? We will be traveling with 2 kids ages 5 and 6.

How was your experience with Airtran?

Airtran charges $15 per bag each way. Thats why DH and I rather stick to SW or Jetblue. Also, Airtran always seems to change their flight times, we've had problems with delays as well. The planes can be dirty, and they have broken two of my suitcases (beyond repair) Not a big fan of Airtran, we will only fly with them if they are WAY cheaper than the others.

I would book myself via airtran.com The only problems with them is they charge for bags(southwest is about the only who doesn't) and they do occasionally change their flight times(err.....) If they do and you cannot use the new time, they will refund your money. I try to fly Southwest first... but have used Airtran alot as they have had more convenient flight times for me. Oh one more thing, they charge $6 per person to picka seat.. with a family and kids you are forced to do.

I have previously flown Midwest Airlines out of Milwaukee. They were a VERY first class airline, but of late have been sliding. I have used Airtran for several recent round trips, VERY pleased in all aspects.

Ive flown airtran several times in the last few years. I used to read all the time on the transportation board about airtran changing flights.. I dont think Ive ever experienced that myself.
The planes have not been dirty, in my experience. I would have no reason to believe that im not in another major airline's plane when Im with airtran.
I have no complaints, other than the bag charge, and they used to give out headphones, but i havent gotten any in awhile.lol.

I tend to take Airtran alot b/c they are cheap. Generally the cheapest airline prices I find from NY to MCO for the dates I want to travel. That's the good. The bad, flights are constantly delayed or the times changed. Its been my experience that the earlier in the day your flight leaves, the more reliable the service. They do charge for baggage and the planes feel cramped.

We looked hard at airtrans prior to booking with SW and it came down to having to pay $90 extra to secure seats and atleast $30 (2 checked bags at $15 each). Plus out of Chicago for our time frame they only had, 2 direct flights, where as SW had 5 or 6.
