(the general book discussion thread got un-stickied, so I made a new thread)

I know many people enjoyed the book.
The movie is opening in my town tonight. Hope it is good!

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO is based on the trilogy of books by Stieg Larsson that has sold over 7 million copies worldwide. Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, ruthless computer hacker Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace) to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from almost forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves. ""The ‘Millennium' novels are probably the biggest international phenom to emerge from Sweden since Abba. Actress Noomi Rapace turns her subject into a mesmerizing, highly intelligent yet absolutely uncontrollable animal with her own sense of justice."--Boyd van Hoeij, Variety. In Swedish with English subtitles. Unrated. 152 Min.

i would go see that.........is it an art house movie? cause its not opening at any of the mainstream theatres around me.

The girl with the dragon tatoo? I saw her today at Circle K. When she bent over, She showed her T-stamp on her lower back. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Could be. It is at our local independent theater. Not the multiplex.

The newspaper really liked the actress who plays Lisbeth. "Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth sander is what I want for Father's Day and don't spend a lot of time with the wrapping paper and skip the card".

He also liked the film very much. He says it will have a very long run at the local theater. Also that you should "make sure you see it before the American re-make comes out. "They won't know what to do with Lisbeth and they'll surely mess it up".

Sounds like a good movie for a cold, snowy Patriot's Day weekend!

I have the book in a rather large stack by my bed..only got a few pages in thus far as I got side tracked by 4 or 5 other books I am reading :lmao: Crazy that the movie is just now opening here even as discussions are going on to make a US 'big budget hollywood' version....or would that technically be considered a remake already.

Yes, the U.S. version would indeed be a remake.

Oh, I didn't know you were discussing this book. I read it as well, and really liked it. However, I really wanted to find out more about Lisbeth. I want to read the other two books too. I just saw that there was a movie, and I'd like to see it. It's a Scandanavian picture, and evidently won their version of the best picture Oscar. It sounds great to me! :thumbsup2

Just got through reading "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", wonderful book, I am not normally a mystery reader, but this one got me hooked, can't wait to get the next one!
