Hey All!

With the recent passing of Steve Jobs I was wondering if that was him in the Garage Scene in Spaceship Earth?

RIP Steve Jobs, you were an awesome innovator.

I'm not sure "officially" if a "name" has been given to the person in the scene, but all the "opinions" I have seen point to it being Steve Wozniak.:)

I always figured it was Bill Gates.

Yep, the giant glasses give it away LOL. The WOZ was the brain and Jobs was the marketing genius and idea person. It is however the Jobs family garage. It would be nice if Disney would put a little tribute to the man. He changed the world!!

I'm not sure if I read this or heard this officially somewhere but I always thought that it didn't represent one specific person but it was a representation of all 3. (Gates, Jobs, Wozniak)

I hear this too. Not sure if on the boards or in a book.

this is also how I read it when I googled it, though I read it was Jobs/Wozniak, and didn't see the Gates connection. As soon as I saw the Jobs' picture inside the gargage I googled it.

I have always subscribed to this as well. :)

I've also read somewhere that it is a representation of all who tinkered with computers and revolutionized the Technology Age.

That's one of my favorite scenes in Spaceship Earth. So many details in such a little space!

I always saw it as one of the Steves, most likely Woz due to the build and that he was the hardware guy, and didn't even think Bill Gates for a two reasons.

Isn't it described as being in California, not Arizona or Seattle (Microsoft), and Bill Gates had very little if anything to do with hardware. Microsoft wrote MS-DOS to run on other computers. Also no garage in Microsoft lore.

It could also be Bill Hewlett or Dave Packard they started HP in a garage and in S. California.

My thoughts, too.

While I miss the old scenes that were there, I do love the garage one!

People forget this. That's why I tend to believe the Imagineer, who'll tell you the "official" line is that it represents all the great Silicon Valley innovators who started in their garage. I believe Google also began in a garage.

Totally agree with this.

Could also be, but, the one story that is often repeated is the previous one. One would also wonder why they all did things in the garage. Weren't they allowed in the house?:rotfl:

The narration says "young men" I believe. Or "young people" or something like that. It's intended not to single out one specific person. If you take notice, there are very few individuals in Spaceship Earth since we, as the human race, all strive together to further advance communication. That's the point of the entire attraction.

I remember a part, probably at the point where the garage is, that talked about how the internet would be the wave of the future and we could talk through our computers. y'know, Skype.

And, I've gotten Jeopardy questions right thanks to SE. Or should I say, "thank the Phonecians."

Hmmm...interesting theme park relevant post!!....I don't really know, but did want to mention that I am so saddened by the death of Steve Jobs and my condolences go out to his family and friends.
