I would assume those people are or were also evacuated. (The Rape, Robbery, Murder, etc)
Do you think they will ever be pinpointed and convicted?

Luv2Roam,

I know that a guy who was caught raping a 13 year old by other stranded people killed him.

Yikes!

Maybe one day they will prosecute-but who knows.

I'm sure whomever the military "catches"---won't be going to a shelter. I think the will get a "Do not pass go. Go straight to jail." card.

I sure hope so!

They are probably hanging out in my brother's living room in Algiers, which is right over the bridge. My family kind of has a warped sense of humor and we've actually been chuckling picturing the hoodlums sitting on his sofa with their feet up on the coffee table drinking his Cokes. I know, pretty twisted, but like the song goes "if we don't laugh we'll all go insane."

It is not safe to "deploy yourself into" (as a helper) or return home into stricken areas. Wait until police and security have been reestablished, and preferably wait until cell phone service is reestablished. Some looter could be holed up in the house next door waiting to steal your car.

Any looters who rejoined the mass of peope waiting to evacuate won't be able to bring their plasma TV's on board the buses.

Oh, definitely. I'd be scared to death to go anywhere near there anytime soon! But I do know one person (DBIL) on his way back to Slidell (on the Northshore) and some (aunts and cousins) headed to Jefferson Parish on Sunday. No way I'm going back anytime soon, not that I could even if I wanted to since I live in Orleans Parish.

I'm glad to hear that. I don't understand why this is going on when the city has been destroyed. You would think they would be concentrating on other things, like surviving and getting out of New Orleans. I heard that one man was shot and killed by police today too.

What can you do really--I think it is healthy to find humor in what you have no control over. I wish I could do that.

lulu, did your BIL go back yet? We have friends who evacuated out of Covington -- there NO power or water in St. Tammany parish. Slidell was the worst hit, we heard. Parish president is asking evacuees to stay away until further notice.

someone just posted a thread that FBI Snipers are in New Orleans.

Looks like some won't even get to go to jail after all.

Horrible that in a tragedy it had to come to this and the need for snipers.

I support the governments position to take care of this by any means possible. Can't fix the city until all the riff raff is gone--be it dead or alive.

The rapists and looters and other assorted slimeballs will never be convicted because they will disappear! This is the perfect time to be a criminal because they can say "Oh, my ID all washed away in the flood! My name is John Doe." The people who were attacked are probably too traumatized to remember their attackers clearly, and with no way to collect DNA or other crime scene evidence there would be no conviction with just the testimony of the victim.

I did hear that the National Guard was doing bag checks and nobody was allowed to board a bus with obviously stolen merchandise.

The fact is there are SOOO many people moving out of that area that the criminals can just blend right in. They can hop on a bus and be practically at my doorstep in a matter of hours. Perfect.

Yes, they only had 3-4 inches of water in their home. He pulled the carpet on the first floor and headed back to Houston. DH's coworker stayed in the Covington area and his house had some tree damage, but no water inside. He doesn't have power, of course.

lulu, thanks for the info on St. Tammany. Our friend's parents evacuated to her place in Atlanta and are staying put for now. In the middle of all this... and I know this is nothing compared to what many are enduring... she and her fiancee (my DH's best friend) were supposed to be married in Covington next month. They don't want to cancel the wedding, but who knows what the parish will be like then?? :confused3

For now, they insist on keeping the wedding date, so we booked a hotel room in Hammond. Found out I can fly into Baton Rouge without penalty (already had my tix to NO) but I am holding off until my friends make a final decision to postpone or not.

This would've been my first trip to NOLA. I have promised myself I WILL get there when the city is rebuilt, no matter how long it takes!

I heard a news report earlier this evening that said they have established a prison at the airport. So hopefully this means they are capturing some of the troublemakers.
