The First/Original Dining Plan

Can anyone tell me what the original dining plan was comprised of and how much was it? I seem to recall that it included booze. Am I mistaken? Many people complain that it is too much food- yet I still hear complaints that the value of the plan had gone down over the past couple of years.

There have been meal plans at WDW for many years, and indeed some of the more expensive ones included many premiums. Some even included boat rentals.

The various offerings vary over the years due to market research; what are folks looking to purchase and how much they are willing to spend. When people are financially confident, offerings are gilded, and the price is boosted to match. Back in 2005, people were looking for a more basic offering, and that's when the current Disney Dining Plan was introduced, with very straight-forward offerings (1TS, 1CS + 1 snack per night), and a verly low price by comparison to the more premium offerings.

We first did the equivalent of today's Premium plan in 1983. We did that plan under different names for many years and it never included alcohol. Nor did the Grand Plan (currently Platinum) when it was introduced. I've kept my eyes on those plans over the years and they are still essentially the same and have never included alcohol.

Can't speak to before 1983 but I really doubt alcohol was ever included.

There are minor exceptions but that is only when alcohol is included with the price of the meal. Hoop de Doo is one exception and the Luau used to be. Mai Tais were included at that dinner but I haven't been to the newer version.
