When I was a kid I saw a cartoon movie about a lion cub that was raised by sheep. The wolves would come and take a sheep when they were hungry because they had learned the lion thought it was a sheep and no danger to them. Then one day when the lion was an adult the wolves came after his adopted mama. The lion thought it was a sheep but it went to defend it's mama. The roar that came out of the lion that day was very un sheep like. It was then that the lion, sheep, realized that there was something special about him. He lit into the wolves with claws and teeth and kicked butt on the wolves.

Within all of us there is an untamed wildness. But like the lion in the story we often don't realize the fire that burns within us till we are tested. We athletes have a unique opportunity to learn more about ourselves. We learn that there is more to us than we realize. We learn that there is a part of us that craves the challange. A part of us that says bring it on.

There is a fire that glows within all of us. We just have to learn to let it loose. When you are on a long LSD or in a race let your mind free and think, Yea I can do this, it's not so tough, I'm powerful and tireless I can do this.

I strongly believe that the "runners/walkers high" that we experience is when we let our wild side take over and just go with it. When your untamed side is in control you are not thinking, "oh my I can't hold this pace or it will hurt", your wild side is thinking, "Yea Baby".

If you have ever been running/walking and suddenly the pace is so much easier and you feel like you could go forever, you have felt your inner power. That power is in all of us and the runners/walkers who have learned to let their power loose are champions.

But then I ain't right.

That's Lambert the Sheepish Lion right? They show that at The Mara (AKL) :) I'm still looking for that untamed side... right now I keep trying to ignore that other voice - the one that says "this is really hard" "you should stop"

Thanks for the post Inspirational Panda!

ps - What does YARC stand for?

I love that short and I love the song. It gets stuck in my head.

As for your thought, you are right, but it is so hard to find that side of yourself sometimes!

Thank you Judy I haven't seen that for many many years. I had no idea what is was called. I think when I saw it that it was in Black and White on the Wonderful World of Disney TV Program.

YARC stands for the "You Ain't Right Club" Judy:snooty: is the Queen and Ruler of the WISH Court of "YARC".:flower3:

You see people who go out and seek adventure and take on the baddest distances must have something wrong with them. How dare they live life and not watch it go by like a normal person. Everyone knows that sports and OMG marathons are for watching in the comfort of your living room. Who in their right mind would do such things.:cloud9:
