The financially irresponsible WDW trip! [June 25th: p.45, posts 668 & 669]

Firstly wooo hooo on 2000 posts

And how'd you put the ears on beaker? and was that a photo of your post? :confused3

"this is K...., my wife". "Who is your wife?" I thought  and must have transmitted the same thing with my eyes (awful I know). "This is K...., my wife" he said as he indicated the man next to him.
Shouldn't it have been his husband :confused3 I would have thought the same!

jumped out of the parade and said "BOO" to the people next to us and Alice nearly jumped out of her skin and started crying. :( It was just bad luck with the timing. DH and I took her back and once more she buried her head in my shoulder. But she's a great girl and in no time at all she was ready for more fun. :woohoo:
Ahh bless her!

K was dressed in a Mickey Mouse costume so now we had two Alices, a hippie and a Mickey Mouse!
:rotfl2:

Once again (as was the case on our first trip to the U.S.) we were amazed at the emphasis on peanuts in American confectionary. I like nuts so no worries there but it seemed every second thing had a nut flavour (loved those Reeses Peanut Butter Cups - I think that's what they're called). For anyone wondering about the candy, what you get is little mini-snack size bars and individual lollipops and jellies and lots of Snickers.
I know I hate nuts too and over here we're told not to give our kids nuts :confused3

Off we trudged (is that a word?)
Yep well it is over here :rotfl2:

The Mom asked her little girl if she'd had a good time and her DD looked up at her and said in the sweetest voice "it was the best time Mom but please can we come back tomorrow?". The Mom said "no darling sorry, we need to go home tomorrow" and the little girl started sobbing quietly and said "but please can we come back Mom? I want to wear my Princess dress again and I want to meet the princesses again". Oh God, my heart ached. I smiled at the Mom and I could tell she was about 2 seconds away from openly crying. :( She was holding her daughter close and I am certain, more than anything else in the world at that moment, she wanted to say "sure honey, let's stay". Those last days are hard. They were such a sweet mom and daughter.
That is so sweet, don't we all feel like that sometimes well maybe not the princess dress bit :rotfl:

Deb,

Thanks for the scoop on the MNSSHP (and pics.) We've never been, and it was fabulous to be able to get a peek at it through your eyes!

Kathy

YAY! Another post! Keep 'em coming! :) (And congrats on 2000.)

It was a lesson in stereotyping for me. Why did I assume 100% when he said "wife" he meant a woman?

I dont think you're wrong for assuming that. Wife is associated with the female partner. I thought that, too. I agree with an above poster... he should have said husband or at least assumed that people were going to think of a woman when he said wife. Ehh. But I don't think you stereotyped--not at all.

The parade looked like it was fun. I have seen alot of pictures from the Christmas, but you are the first that I have seen post pics of the Halloween parade. I want to go for that now too.

I have been where you are in assuming an aquaintance wife was female. And how do you recover from that but with a big smile and an ok. you handled it well, obviously, they wanted to meet up with you again so Mike and K must not have been offended.

The update as always was great and I am looking forward to more.

I love your parade pictures Deb! It looks so, so neat! I would've made the same assumption regarding his wife. Don't feel bad.

Another great installment! I love Reese Peanut Butter Cups, they are my fav.

Quick story, Hershey Park has candy characters, instead of Mickey and Company they have characters dressed up as the different candies, Hershey Bar, Kit kat bar, etc. They even have a character breakfast. I took one of my nieces one year for her B-day, well everyone that knows me knows my love for anything chocolate and Peanut butter. My niece insists that I have my pic taken with the Reeses Peanut butter character. Well don't you know that character gave my bum a nice feel. Yep I got felt up by a reeses peanut butter cup. You have to see my face in that pic, she snapped just as his hand went south of the border.

Can't wait to read more, but I am sad it is ending! :sad1:

Thanks lorimc! Well, don't be too sad as there's 9 more days to go :thumbsup2 but yes, hopefully those will be done at super record breaking speed. :moped:

I just did two black circles in Photoshop and added them on! :thumbsup2 Yes, I took a screenshot (you know a kinda picture of what's on your desktop) before my post count went past the nice neat 2000 mark. Sad aren't I? :lmao:

Oh yay!! So glad my pics helped made you want to go. You really should! The sad thing is I'd say it would be many years before we could get back to WDW in October. :( If/when we do go back it would definitely be summer (like on our first trip) as I couldn't pull my eldest out of school for too long anymore. But that makes it all the more sweet that we did get to go once and that we have these great memories. :goodvibes

Yes, they were surprisingly delicious and fortunately I was the only one who liked them so I made out good on the deal. :dance3:

OMG!! That is too funny!! :lmao: Perhaps you were unconsciously salivating upon seeing a giant reeses peanut butter cup and he got the wrong idea? :confused3 :teeth:

Another great chapter!! The pictures of MNSSHP are great. I want to go so badly!!! Thank you for sharing it with us.
The bit on the bus with mom and daughter would have gotten me too. I'll never forget the last night of our first trip. We were leaving MK, walking down Main Street, trying not to look at one another because we were all crying!! There's something about the magic there that can't be duplicated anywhere else.
Looking forward to the next one!!

Wow! Just when I think it can't get any better...you have me tearing up. I LOVED all the details about your trick or treating adventures! :goodvibes My DH and I are staying at AKL May 7-12 and I hoping our trip will have some of the pixie dust from yours :yay:

Deb, what a wonderful installment!! You brought tears to my eyes twice!!
First with the fact that you have done a wonderful job raising your children not to judge and to be tolerant. I thought that was awesomely handled! Kudos to you, my friend. :thumbsup2:

And the mother and daughter in the bus??? OMG, I would have started bawling if I were you! I'm such a sap at things like that! Yesterday, my nephew made the winning out in his baseball game and I got all verklempt!!! :lmao: I'm a dork!

Glad your back and I'm glad your only half ways through!! I could read your writing all day!! :woohoo:

Wow....wish the nudging worked as well with my kids as it did with you:rotfl2:

Seriously, wonderful day relayed here......I am ready for Epcot.....are we almost there MoM????:rotfl:

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR 2000TH POST! Keep up the good work my friend:banana:

Great update! I haven't had the pleasure of attending a MNSSHP so it's nice to read about.

I would have been confused on the husband title as well. I never heard that used before to refer to a gay/lesbian couple. I've always been told it's husband/husband or wife/wife. *shrugs* Whatever floats their boat I say. Not to worry, if you had offended them I doubt that would have agreed to meet up with you again. :)

It can be a touchy subject with some people so I admire your ability to speak openly about it. :thumbsup2

Deb,
Right or wrong, I often "trudge".

I, too, would have assumed Mike would have said husband. But you've got to love those boys of yours for taking it all in stride. You and your DH need to raise some more kids around the world.

And the bus scene! That was awful. I would have been sobbing. That poor little girl. It's so strange to think about the continuum that exists there. The constant flow of people coming and going is amazing.

::yes::  It's so sad. I read a TR about a year ago (I must try to find it again) and it was from a Mom who had just come back from her first trip with her DH and 3 boys. I was crying reading one part: basically they were eating their burgers in Caseys and her eldest boy had his back turned to her and was really quiet. She thought he was sulking but when she went to take a closer look he was crying and said he didn't want to go home. :( The way she descibed their last night was incredibly moving. It's an old report but if I find it I'll give you a link.

Oh I hope your trip is wonderful!!! We want to stay at AKL some day too. My eldest son has been talking about AKL ever since we first saw the Disney planning dvd two years ago. I hadn't thought much about it but last October when we were on our way to WDW the Magical Express bus driver detoured to AKL to drop off some guests. My oh my! When we saw the thatched (that's what we call that type of roof here, not sure what the African term is) roof we gasped in amazement. The place looked so beautiful. :cloud9: Wishing you lots of magic and pixie dust............ um, yeah, ok, I can't find the pixie dust icon thingy....... hang on........ dum de dum de dum.......... :wizard: princess: :grouphug: ok, a wizard, a princess and a group hug should do the trick!! :teeth:

Aw, I don't know what a winning out is but I'm still tearing up thinking about you tearing up. ;) You're a great auntie!! :thumbsup2 By the way, I'm not sporty but I would *love* to play baseball some day. I always thought it looked like the coolest game on the planet.

Hi Deb! I was happy to read your update last night but was to bleary eyed to write a response. At least one that would make sense. :lmao:

First of all CONGRATS on your 2000th post.:woohoo: And I love the Mouse ears on Beaker! Well done! :thumbsup2

Please offer my belated birthday wishes to our Wayne. :bday: :cake: party:

As for your plans to hurry and complete your trip report - please don't! :scared1: You're right up there with some of my favorite authors. :thumbsup2 You know how when a book is so good you can't wait to finish it but at the same time you don't want it to end? That's how I feel about your trip report. Yes! You are that good! (Please send cash, checks or money orders to Susie at . . . :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I'm happy to be strung along until your next trip. So feel free to drag it out. Oh, and could you hurry up with the next installment? :lmao:

Hooray! Another installment! I hate that it's winding down though. You are just going to HAVE to take another trip so you can keep your fans happy!

Another excellent installment. So glad to see your kids weren't bothered by the Mr. and his "Mrs." - uh, "Mr..." uh... After havling lived in PAlm SPrings CA, then moving to a well known largely conservative state that our president is from... well, it was culture shock. To say the least. Anyway, my point is that I'm glad your kids know that it's their life, not ours, and not our place to judge.

When's the next installment? More videos?!? Please! Love all the pics you include!

Hi Deb - Congratulations on your break thru of 2000+ posts!!!! :cool1: :thumbsup2

 I loved the installment....I was just as exhausted as you by the end of the night! I am so dreading coming back from vacation. I am trying to prepare for it already! So I know how that poor mom and daughter felt :guilty:

Looking forward to more! :yay:

Hey Deb!

Always a pleasure to read more about your trip!!!!

fyi---I think the "winning" out is the out that ends the game-could also be considered the "losing" out, depending upon which team you're on! Glad her player won!!

Here's the news--not sure if it's good, bad, or just sad....I've just made a vow not to check these boards again for a least a month. Went to a financial planning seminar at the library tonight where the presenter casually mentioned that most people spend more time planning their vacations than their finances. Whew--he was definitely talking about me!!!!! I've got to get my finances figured out, as our eldest DD hopes to go to college in 2 years or so.

I'm gonna miss you, but I've got to go cold turkey. I even just canceled all my Disney e-newsletters.

So long for awhile.

You've been a great friend!!!!!!!

Sue :goodvibes

p.s. if I check in again in about 2 months, will you still be in Florida???:rotfl:

One thing happened on the bus that actually brought tears to my eyes. There was a woman sitting across from us with her little girl on her lap. The girl was around 5 I guess. The bus was very quiet so we could easily hear their conversation.
This is such a sweet story! Thanks for sharing!

With the great coverage you're doing of the Holloween Party, I have to consider going next year!
