Part 13: Kennedy Space Center and The Boardwalk!!

Sunday 29th October, 2006

I was the first to wake up and realising it was only 7.30 (by the bedside clock) and, therefore, 6.30 in ‘new time’, I decided to grab another 30 minutes of sleep. Our plan for today was to take another hour on the beach as the boys were keen on getting in one more swim and then we’d go to KSC but make a stop first at a supermarket to a) stock up on non-perishables for The Boardwalk (as we couldn’t carry frozen or chilled food around the car all day) and b) once more, experience shopping in a U.S. supermarket. Rock and Roll!

(that one's especially for sharkB8HooHaHa!! :thumbsup2 )

Slowly everyone started to come around and we did the whole shower and dressing thing which, once more, took an obscene amount of time. We had decided to get a big breakfast in the hope of having that fill us up enough for most of the day, instead of stopping again for lunch. We pack up and, again, I am somewhat dismayed at the amount of packing required considering we had only been in the room a mere 14 hours including sleep time. So we kept some of the packing for later as we would need to come back to the room anyway to get dressed after the beach. On our way out of the room, Wayne looked puzzled and when I asked him “why?” he said “so it’s 9.50 by that clock, which means it’s really 8.50?”. I said “yeah”. He said “so how come my watch says 10.50, shouldn’t it read 9.50 cause I haven’t adjusted it yet?” Not being the sharpest tool in the workshop this early in the day (however early it actually was nobody knows] I expressed my puzzlement at this and actually suggested that perhaps his watch was faulty. Then, of course, it finally hit me that the bedside clock was reading the correct post-adjustment time. Clearly the hotel had set it in such a way that it adjusts itself automatically for daylight savings. Crap. So it was actually 9.50. And we had been moving so sloooooowly. Oh f....., I mean golly gosh darnit. ;)

Anyway, onwards and upwards and all that. When we got down to the lobby, we checked out the breakfast menu in the hotel restaurant and, once more, full marks to us for spending money needlessly when we could ill-afford to. It was 15.99 for the breakfast buffet. Considering the Crystal Palace costs 19 dollars for an incredible choice *and* characters in the middle of the Magic Kingdom, I think 16 dollars was way out of order. But, for some reason we went for it. Partly because, time was now an issue and we didn’t want to stray too far from the hotel. In retrospect, we should have just got the off-the-menu breakfast as we just didn’t eat enough to justify the cost of the buffet (DH and I were desperately trying to stuff food into ourselves Homer Simpson style). But there was only so much we wanted, especially me, I just wasn’t that hungry. Also, how mean is this???? DH and I got two coffees each and we got a glass of juice for each of the kids and guess what? Drinks are not included in the buffet price. :faint: This really annoyed me and we said it to one of the staff who pointed at the menu and there it was at the bottom - “drinks extra”. So the breakfast ended up costing us more than the price of breakfast in Crystal Palace or 1900 Park Fare. Doesn’t that seem so wrong? Oh well, the good news is that it did keep up going for most of the day, despite our limited appetites.

So whilst I highly recommend the Doubletree Oceanfront Hotel, I would say avoid the breakfast. We passed countless places afterwards goading and teasing us with their adverts for buffet breakfasts for half the price.

After breakfast we went straight to the beach via that lovely little wooden walkway. Having just eaten, the boys had to take it easy in the water. We didn’t want any cramps. They had a wonderful time in the water though and, once more, Alice thoroughly enjoyed playing in the sand and dipping her little toes in the water.

There wasn’t a whole lot of time so we didn't stay too long on the beach. Back in the room, the boys got changed and I packed up the remainder of our stuff. We had paid for the room in advance and didn’t have to stop by at the front desk on our way out so we were on our way.

We saw a sign for Winn Dixies so we stopped off there, me all aglow with excitement at the prospect of grocery shopping. :woohoo: The rare time that I’m grocery shopping while I’m actually in the *mood* for doing it (i.e. Christmas and when I’m in a foreign country :lmao:), I do tend to overdo it. We picked up all sorts of goodies and then some more. But we got real food too!! I was a bit disappointed at the choice though. I was sure that there’d be an unquantifiably large range of pastas and pasta sauces compared to here but actually, it’s roughly the same. I guess at some stage back in the 90s Ireland came out of it’s isolated backward position and became a much more cosmopolitan place with, amongst other things, an increased choice in consumer goods. Anyway, fret not, there was plenty of choice, just not as much as I had thought. I gleefully got my hands on a big ol’ jar of maple syrup. :thumbsup2 I also stocked up on wine and two crates of water. In fact I calculated that we got 12 bottles of water in Winn Dixies for the price of one bottle in Disney World.

As we went through the aisles, I couldn’t help noticing the dual pricing on each product - the ‘Winn Dixie Clubcard’ (or something to that effect) price and the ‘regular’ price. And I thought, oh well, I guess we’re stuck with the regular price. Then it struck me that we should at least ask about this loyalty card thingie. So I sent DH off to ask. (I tend to do that - send him places to do things that I don’t want to do :lmao:). Anyway he was told that it was no problem. We filled out a form, got our card and saved 20 dollars there and then. That was a worthwhile 30 seconds of our time I think you’ll agree.

So all done, we loaded up the car, took a few bottles of cheap and, thereby, utterly satisfying water into the car with us and off we went. I dreaded that we’d get lost again or do something to yet again add stress to our day but no, this journey went without a hitch. Whoah, it’s such a long way from the first signs for KSC until the point where you actually reach the car park. I’m not complaining. I was totally impressed by the vast amount of land used for the complex. We definitely have nothing like that here - I mean obviously we don’t have a Space Centre, that would be really silly, considering we can barely keep it together enough to have an army, let alone a space programme :lmao:. What I mean is that it struck me as totally (and wonderfully) American that there was acres and acres of land and wonderful, smooth roads devoted to just the entrance to the Space Center. Wow!

By now it was 1.30ish and I was had read on the KSC website that they remained open til 7pm. I either read wrong or the wrong info was on the site because when we got to the ticket booth we were told they were closing at 5pm today. :sad1: I was kicking myself then that we didn’t move faster that morning (or indeed learn to tell time properly, pffft!) as I felt we had done ourselves out of valuable time at KSC. Looking back afterwards though, I felt we had enough time on this particular day as it’s a tiring place to visit so, even with all the time in the world, 3.5 hours was ok.

FH080022--.jpg

We paid our entrance fee - 120 dollars in total - and were told that we should get a move on as the last bus of the day would leave in 20 minutes. So we hurried in.

The security was the tightest I’d ever come across anywhere. We had to take everything out of each bag and each pocket and every item on us was scrutinised including the kids stuff. This took up quite a bit of time. When we were done we saw an info desk and, in our naivete, stopped to ask if it was really necessary to take the bus tour or could we just remain in the complex we were in. The woman behind the desk looked a bit puzzled and said “you really need to do the tour”. I had read about KSC in the ‘Beyond Disney’ book (from the same author as the Unofficial Guide to Disney World) but I had skimmed through it and couldn’t recall what point he had made about the bus tours. I now know that the bus tours are almost everything - there’s the IMAX Theatre back in the main complex and the movies they show there are definitely must-see (well, even to pick one of them, you don’t have to do all of them) and there’s other attractions too, but really, the big stuff that you go to KSC to see is only accessible via the bus trips - hence the woman’s puzzled look at my silly question!

We ran to make the last bus, stopping first to get the official photo done. Not the best photo ever, but hey, it’s all memorabilia. So we just about made the bus then, still not truly grasping the sheer humongous scale of KSC. We read on the map they gave us at the entrance that there would be three sections that we’d visit by bus and when done with one section we’d go and wait for the next bus to take us to the next place. The buses come and go approx every 20 minutes. A piece of great advice that I *did* remember from the Beyond Disney book was not to dally in any one place as it’s totally up to yourself to ensure that you’re back in time to see an Imax movie (or any other attraction back at the base that you want to see). I’m glad I read that as it would have been all too easy to get bogged down in the detail of any one of the sections and not get back in time for the last movie. It’s not like anyone announces that the last screening is starting in 10 minutes you know?

Anyway, back to our bus trip. I thought it might be, I dunno, a 5 minute journey to get to the first section. Well I was wrong. It was at least 20 minutes, that’s just to get from the Visitor Complex to the first stop off, which was The Observation Gantry. I was so aware of time ticking by and us not having seen anything yet so I was getting a bit worried. Oh no, didn’t I promise that there would be no more negative moods from me? Ok, ok, re-write - um, I wasn’t worried at all, scrap that. What I did was, I got everyone on board to catch hands and sing ‘Kumbaya’ :grouphug: ;) Well actually, despite my worry, I looked over at Wayne and Garth and they looked so happy and excited at the prospect of seeing so many cool things, that was enough to make me happy. This day was really for them - what better age than 10 or 12 to visit a Space Center and all that it entails?!!

The bus driver was also a tour guide of sorts, giving us lots of info en route. He told us about The Crawler which is a huge transportation vehicle which carries the shuttle from the Vehicle Assembly Building to the launch pad. That distance is about 3 miles and the Crawler moves approx 1 mile per hour. It doesn’t have wheels, it has tracks, like a tank. We got to see it.....

crawler.jpg

(that’s not my own photo - I got it somewhere on the web)

Finally we got the the Observation Gantry and got the elevator straight up to the top. It basically gives you the opportunity to get a great view of everything around the KSC complex including a good view of the the launch pads where the shuttles are launched from.

FH080026.jpg

FH080028.jpg

When we were done up at the top, we came back down and went to see the film which was held in, for all the world, a kinda metal shed. It was good - quite technical in parts but good overall.

At this point I want to say that if, like us, you experience Disney World just before coming to KSC, then you really do need to change your outlook in order to appreciate the Space Center. It’s quite stark, grey and functional. I mean, of course it is, otherwise it’s not going to be real, and I wanted it to be real. But I guess the point I’m making is that one shouldn’t look at it as another day out or, definitely, not as another Florida theme park. It’s far from it. It’s academic, it’s real and it’s, well, as I said, functional. But, amazingly, though I felt that contrast and I felt that functionality and practicality almost invade my otherwise ‘dream’ holiday, every time I looked at the boys, they were in awe of the place, smiles aplenty and soaking it all up. I’m so impressed with them. I enjoyed myself too, but personally I found that a small taste of each place was enough to satisfy my own curiosity whereas I think the boys liked to linger in each place. We tried to reach a happy medium.

I forgot to mention that Alice was not in high spirits. She was bored and confused. It was so hot that day and I guess she just wanted to splash around a pool or, indeed, see Mickey or Pooh Bear. But, for the most part, we managed to keep her calm. We had to leave our stroller back at the visitor complex but there are strollers parked at each bus stop and they’re free to use. We had attempted to get her into one when we got off the bus at the Observation Gantry but she was highly indignant upon seeing it and absolutely refused to sit in it. I must admit, it *was* a bit odd looking. Hee hee.

We went and waited at the bus stop for our bus to the next section and we waited quite a while. This was a tough wait, in the heat with the sun blazing down and I reckon we had just missed a bus. It was hard to keep Alice in line, literally. There was a gate on one side and a rope on the other so, in her boredom, she was trying to run under the rope. The bus couldn’t come soon enough!

DSC01822--.jpg

It eventually arrived and we’re whisked off (well, you know, at about 15 mph and a journey of approx 20 minutes) to the Saturn V complex. Here we managed to coax Alice into the ‘embarrassing’ (lol!) stroller which made life a lot easier!

FH080029.jpg

This section was much more crowded than any other part we saw so this is clearly the place people are most keen on and I can definitely see why. The Saturn V rocket is mind blowing. It’s size is too hard to describe. Its just enormous!

There was a really cool gift shop here called ‘The Right Stuff’.....

Part 14: Kennedy Space Center and The Boardwalk (continued....)!!

Sunday 29th October, 2006

The boys had some fun in one of the rooms, posing as astronauts.....

FH080037.jpg

and watching the miniature moon buggies gliding over ‘Mars’!

FH080039--.jpg

Next up (after the usual bus saga), we went to the International Space Station Center. This was great! We tried to be quite efficient here and we even naughtily sneaked out of the movie in this section.
devious.gif
It’s set up in a way that, upon exiting the bus, everyone is herded into the movie room first. But after a few minutes, conscious of time moving on, and not really enjoying that particular film we decided to leg it out of there. DH and I gave some knowing “what can you do?” glances at the door staff whilst looking at our ‘fussy’ toddler who, actually, couldn’t have been more calm at the time. But surely the pay-off for raising toddlers is to use their ‘moods’ to your advantage every once in a while?? ;)

So on we went to the International Space Station Center proper.

Wayne was over-awed at this place and said “I can’t believe we’re looking at all these cool pieces of equipment that will, one day, be in space”. And he was right. It really was cool! You’re looking at the actual NASA components of the future Space Station and you get to observe the the construction area from an observation level.

FH090016.jpg

When we were done we were lucky to get on a bus very quickly and got back to the Visitor Complex with time to spare. On our way back, the driver gave us some more info and talked a lot about this building, the Vehicle Assembly Building...

DSC01833--.jpg

You see the U.S. Flag? He told us it’s the biggest painted flag in the world. Interesting. We were quite perplexed though when he said it’s the size of a basketball stadium. We drove right by it and looked up at the flag but it just didn’t look anywhere near that scale. :confused3 Then again, I’m sure the man knows what he’s talking about.

When we got back, we had a quick look around the gift shop and then, happily, went to see a movie in the IMAX Theater.

DSC01852--.jpg

On our way to the theater I looked down and realised we didn’t have Alice’s blanky. Oh no! Not her precious blanky. We had guarded it with our lives up to this point and somehow, none of us had any recollection of where it was. DH went to the information desk while I queued up with the boys and Alice for some popcorn. He came back to say the blanky wasn’t there. There was some hope that it was in the car as none of us could recall seeing it throughout the afternoon, but surely we didn’t go into KSC without it, did we? We never go anywhere without it. Anyway, there wasn’t time to exit the place to check the car so we would have to wait until after the movie.

The movie we chose to see was called Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon 3D so we wore our special glasses and got ready for the show. It was absolutely brilliant! Better than I ever imagined. We had never seen an IMAX movie before and I was blown away by the effects. The shots of the moon were stunning. Whenever an astronaut walked into a shot you’d really think he’s right there next to you! Incredible. The movie basically explains the entire moon expedition in 1969, it’s challenges and difficulties, and all the expeditions that followed and it does so with the help of amazing footage, some real, some fiction. Wonderful!

When the movie was over we had just a few minutes before the Center was due to close so we had a another quick look around the huge gift shop and bought some souvenirs. I got the boys a nice photo frame for their room and I got DH a mug which he LOVES!

DSCF1905.jpg

DSCF1906.jpg

A quick bathroom stop and then off to the car. By now it was dark and, surprisingly, cold. Ours was the last car left in the car park! DH ran ahead to see if the blanky was there and YES it was!!! Woohoo!!! [By the way, for anyone doing a count, this makes the third important item we mislaid this holiday - with more to come and the strange thing is we don’t normally lose things, must be something to do with the fact that a Disney holiday is such a busy one].

Our drive back was, for me, nerve-wracking. The fact that it was so dark and we are sooooo not accustomed to driving on those multi-lane highways. It was very, very busy for about 20 miles coming into Orlando. But we did it, got the whole way back to WDW without a hitch. Alice was very upset in the back of the car though. She doesn’t like being out in the dark and she was hungry too (we had eaten crackers and yoghurts, that sorta thing, but it really wasn’t enough). The poor little mite was traumatised. I’ll tell you though, the boys make me so proud when Alice is upset. They sang to her, tickled her, told her stories, ‘talked’ her ‘Lion’ for her (I think I mentioned in part 1 that ‘Lion’ is a tiger but his name is ‘Lion’ - lol). They covered her up with her blanky, gave her drinks and just basically did everything in their power to console her. We were determined to take the correct exit to get back to WDW and the sense of satisfaction when we did it was just great! :woohoo: I realised that one big difference between U.S. roads and European roads is that on U.S. roads (well certainly Florida ones) the signs for your exit can be quite a huge distance from the actual exit itself whereas here, you’re practically almost at the exit before it’s sign-posted. Whatever about here in Ireland, I do recall in Italy, the signs marking your exit were right there *at* the exit. That was a bit too near!

When we came through the gates of Disney World it was such a tremendous feeling - the magic came over us all over again and, cheesy as it might sound, we felt we were back home. We took the correct turn for ‘Epcot resorts’, saw the sign for Boardwalk Inn/Villas and drove up to the security hut. Now I have read many times on these boards about the CMs saying “welcome home” at DVC resorts and, honestly, I really did think *that* was cheesy. Well I have, most definitely, changed my mind. After a dark drive back on (for me) scarily busy roads, feeling hungry and tired, when we pulled up the CM at security said “are you guys checking in tonight?”. We said yes and he said “hey, that’s wonderful”. He peeked into the back and said hi to each of the boys and to Alice, asked where we were from, gave us a huge, warm smile and then said “welcome home guys”. As we drove through, I felt tears well up in my eyes. I was embarrassed in front of the boys and DH and Garth asked me what was wrong, I just said “it’s amazing, leaving here for the weekend has really proved how much we all love the place, I’m crying cause I’m so very happy to be back”. They all agreed. :cloud9:

We decided to treat ourselves to valet parking which actually turned out to be free! Once more, the CMs never cease to amaze me with their friendliness and, though their smiles and warmth might be part of their job description, I don’t care cause it’s very real to me! We were welcomed home by Bob (a fabulous CM we came across again and again throughout our stay). Much to my embarrassment, we once again outdid ourselves with our crap quota - when we opened the doors to get out, there was practically a deluge of bottles, toys, books, keyrings and God only knows what else pouring out. I swear we’re not dirty, horrible people, we just seem to accumulate a lot of *stuff*. Bob wasn’t the least big judgmental though and actually helped enormously in getting us organised, right down to opening the stroller for us to put Alice in! Before we could even help him, he had all our grocery bags and our other bags on the trolley and hopped into the driver’s seat to park our car. It suddenly popped into my head that I had read somewhere on these boards that the Disney Dining Experience card entitled us to free valet parking but I wasn’t sure if I’d imagined it. I said it to Bob and he said “sure thing, that’s absolutely correct”. So valet parking was free!!! Woohoo!!

With great excitement, we all entered the lobby of the Boardwalk. I took Alice to the desk to check in while the boys and DH went to the Bell Services desk to check on our luggage that had come over from All Stars - they then went to the little gift shop in the lobby. I gave my name and there we were on the screen, all set! Phew!! Not that I didn’t trust our wonderful DVC owner. I did 100%. But still, when you’re renting points, you just don’t know what could go wrong. We had booked a 1 bedroom villa (originally we had a studio but, for many reasons, decided to try a 1 bedroom!). We had managed to snag a standard view which is hard to get but really is a great deal as it costs a lot less points (18 per night instead of 24 in our case). When she was going through our details the CM said “looks like you’ve been upgraded to a water view”. Yay!!!! I didn’t mind what the view was but it was such a bonus to have a water view. For this reservation we were on the dining plan. I had literally agonised about whether or not to do the dining plan. Back and forth, back and forth. As we had the Dining Experience card (as a result of having an annual pass the year before) I had felt it wouldn’t be a wise move but I was just dying to try it so eventually we decided to do it for just this 5 night reservation. It was such a treat having all those credits and not worrying at every meal how much it was costing.

After much difficulty printing out our room keys and many apologies (though I was on way too much of a high to care) we were on our way. I grabbed the boys and DH and just couldn’t wait to see the villa. Up we went, down the long corridor (but not so long to be an annoyance) and we were nearly there when we saw our luggage (all of it - including the bags from the All Stars) being wheeled towards us!! Yay! Is that efficient or what??!!

FH000017.jpg

DSCF1030--.jpg

Though I had read up on the Boardwalk to an obsessional level and I had seen hundreds of photos of the rooms, I really wasn’t prepared for what was in store when we opened the door and turned on the lights. It was incredible. Absolutely beautiful!!! And so clean. It was everything we hoped for and much more! I tried to suppress my glee somewhat in front of the bell services guy as I didn’t want him to know, er, think, that I had no life whatsoever, but it was hard. I had this massive grin on my face as we thanked and tipped him. The minute the door was closed we all let out a huge squeal of excitement and danced around the room. **lmao** We ran around checking out the place and for about 5 minutes commented on every nook and cranny. The jacuzzi was incredible, the shower, the separate bathroom, everything! And that king bed!! Weehee!!! As you’ve probably gathered by now, we were thrilled!

We managed to get some food into Alice before she drifted off into a deep sleep. I changed her in her sleep and put her in the middle of the huge king bed where she slept soundly for the night! By now the rest of us were starving though and the 20 table service, 20 counter service and 20 snack credits were burning a hole in my pocket. But Alice was asleep so we couldn’t all leave or so I thought! When I suggested that I go and find some food, Wayne suggested that DH and I both go and he and Garth would look after Alice. We have only recently begun to leave Wayne alone in the house (and that’s just for short periods) so I wasn’t sure about it but we decided to go for it as DH and I both were bursting to see The Boardwalk, even if only for a minute. Just before we left, we heard thuds and bangs and it took me a minute to figure out that it was the sound of Illuminations from Epcot. This got me even more excited as the close proximity was brought home. We hadn't done Epcot or MGM yet on this trip of course, because we were saving them for our Boardwalk stay.

Now I knew from my research that The Boardwalk wasn’t the best place to use counter service credits but we weren’t fussy. We did ask in Spoodles if we could order take-out (and use TS credits for it) but they said no so we went to Spoodles Pizza Window and used 3 credits on pizza slices, drinks and chocolate cake. We had a quick look around and tried to get our bearings on the place (it’s large and I don’t think I ever fully understood what direction I was going and what was back and what was front in this resort!). The atmosphere on The Boardwalk was magical and I think we just fell in love with it immediately - the lights over the water, the boats coming and going, the jugglers, the little kiosks, the families strolling around. We took our food to the room. The boys were fine and were settled down watching old Disney cartoons (the really old ones like Chip ‘n Dale!).

I had barely started in on my food when I was overcome with exhaustion. I looked around and DH and the boys were bleary eyed too. We watched TV for a little while and I sat out on the balcony drinking a glass of wine :cloud9: but soon after, we decided to call it a night. Wayne and Garth were sleeping on the pull-out sofa and I was a bit worried that it wouldn’t be comfortable. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case. It was a brand new sofabed and was incredibly easy to fold out. You basically pulled a little cloth lever and it magically transformed into a fully made up bed!!! Excellent!! I got out my planning folder , made a quick outline of what we wanted to do at MGM the next day and I fell into a deep slumber, totally at peace with the World, with an excited grin, ear to ear, as I anticipated waking up in this beautiful villa and travelling by boat to MGM!!!

This was a great episode. I really enjoyed sharing your excitement and discoveries. Thanks for taking the time to write such a nice, detailed account of your day. We went to the Space Center several years ago and it was a fascinating place..

I'm loving your report. I felt your magic on
arriving "home" to your boardwalk room. Can't
wait to hear your next installment. :goodvibes

Tonight the clocks were due to go back an hour so we'd be under less pressure the next day to check out and get going, yay!!! So we attempted to settle down and the boys were asleep before their heads hit the pillow. Alice had other plans though and laughed, danced and jumped around in merriment whilst her Daddy and I looked on bleary-eyed, pathetically begging her to settle down. That's the thing about child number three - you have so much pride and a sense of dignified discipline with child number one, you're wearier but still in control with child number two, by child number three, all dignity is gone and you sit there begging the child to go to sleep, knowing somewhere in what's left of the intelligent part of your brain that the child is using and will continue to use this lack of authority against you for the rest of your life.

Oh, Deb! How true that is! I don't know how many times I have gone to sleep listening to Andrew singing, playing his guitar, banging blocks, etc. right next to my side of the bed! "Please go to sleep already!". You had me laughing right off!

I know what you mean, it is really hard to get a perspective on how big those buildings really are.

Glad you made it back to Orlando safe and sound! I hope to stay at the Boardwalk on our next visit. It's such a vibrant area! We explored it a few years ago and enjoyed it so much! Looking forward to reading more of your report (between trying to get installments of mine up!). Welcome back! :woohoo:

Deb,
Thank you so much for the head banger smilie. I think he's awesome in a strange sort of way. Bite 1 has a tee-shirt that says "I ROCK" with a stick figure playing the guitar and doing the same hand gesture. It's just so funny.

I loved these installments. You had me at "Oh f....."

I had no idea KSC was so expensive. I was there as a kid and unfortuantely all I remember is an alligator in an enclosed area with a piece of bologna on it's head. I've always wanted to take the boys, but at that price it's going to be a while. Besides, with your descriptions and photos, now I don't have to go! More money for WDW!!!! Thanks!

I'm so glad Alice found her blanket. And what delightful young men you have looking out for their little sister. You and your husband must be doing something right!

Yay!!! You're back!!

I've been wondering about renting DVC points. I'm happy to hear you had a good experience! :thumbsup2

Can't wait for more!:surfweb:

I wandered onto the Trip Reports board today because I'm itching for our Disney trip in October. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your family for a few hours. Looking forward to your next installment!

By the way, the picture of your DD with Eeyore at the Crystal Palace is gorgeous! That photo conveys everything I love about Disney World...thanks so much for sharing it! :goodvibes

luvhockey - Thanks so much for the encouragement and praise! :goodvibes

sharkB8HooHaHa - So great to hear empathetic words about child number 3. For me, it's so different, mostly different in a wonderful way, but sometimes different insofar as the energy levels aren't quite the same. I was just barely 25 when I had my first child and I'm nearly 38 now - BIIIIIIIG difference in tiredness levels!
Oooh, I want one of those t-shirts that your son has!! lol Somebody on these boards has the best avatar - it's exactly what you described, a stick man headbanging, playing guitar. I'll keep an eye out for it!
Yes, KSC is expensive and I think they've raised their prices again because friends of ours who are visiting Orlando soon asked me to forward them the KSC website link and I looked at the tickets page and they're now 38 per adult and 28 per child. Very dear.
Thanks so much for the very kind words about my boys. They have their moments but they have good hearts! :)
I cannot wait to catch up with your report. :woohoo: Going to do that now as soon as I've finished this post.

weezy26nm - Aah, I am so glad we're not the only ones getting lost around WDW. You're right, they could do with better signage. Thanks for reading! Glad you're here. :wave2:

Kay7979 - Thanks so much!! Yep, nothing like a good cry. Glad you're hanging in there with me. Looking forward to catching up on your TR!!!!

mom2aandj - Thanks for reading and empathising!! I so appreciate the loyal support.

mlill - Thanks!!! :) Yours is another TR I look forward to catching up on. :surfweb:

Sue - You know you make a good point about the 2 bathrooms! We're seriously considering offsite next time (despite the driving fear!). Yes, good point about the signs - I'm not sure we were ever fully sure of where we were, let alone where we were going to! :lmao: How you doing? Drop me a PM or email (it's in my profile) when you get a chance! :)

sharonW - Thanks so much!!! :)

Ellester - Yay! You're still here too! :woohoo: Oh you would love The Boardwalk! I think it would be a travesty if a DVC member didn't try the Boardwalk Villas. It's fantastic!!

Disneyland_Mama - :wave2: Hey! How ya doing? Renting points was fabulous!! Definitely try it some time. I see you're staying at POFQ in August, great! We stayed there on our 1st trip and it was wonderful. The landscaping was magnificent and the atmosphere top-class. Best of all, it's small enough to keep a tight reign on 'Waldo'. :teeth:

luvmy2sams - Thanks so much for reading and for your kind words about my TR and that photo! :goodvibes Disney World in October is heavenly!! You're gonna love it.

To everyone: You're the best!! You all make me feel so happy that I'm continuing this report and even though the word 'thanks' tends to lose it's sincerity when it's used too often, I really do appreciate all of you reading along and commenting. :thumbsup2

Great job on the trip report -- I love to see info on "other" places to visit in Florida, and would really like to visit Kennedy Space Center someday. That was a very good point about remember that you're visiting a REAL place, not another amusement park.

Hope you're having fun remembering this stuff as you're writing it down. I really love your perspective on things ! :goodvibes

Here's Alice cuddled up in bed.....

This picture is too funny my son is 21 months old and has the same paci's (Avent pacifiers) and turns them upside down too! I thought he was the only one that preferred them that way. Too Funny!

Yeah, Deb is back!!!:cool1:

Love the installment(s)...keep them coming. Can't wait to read all the wonderful details of your stay in/around BWV. We will be there in 44 days...we also rented points for a one bedroom for 5 nights and added the DDP for that part of our split-stay. I know what you mean about that little hint of worry over the reservation due to the renting aspect!!

I'm anxiously awaiting your next update!!(and don't leave out a single detail!!)

MagicForMe - Thank you!! :)

zigzagzerr - Hey, how are you doing??!! Nice to see you here again. Thanks for sticking with me. Any more trips planned???

KimAshton - Thanks so much!!! I'm glad you're here!! :)

AmyBWV99 - Too funny about the pacifier! :lmao: She really does like it upside down a lot of the time. She's hooked on it STILL. I'm being a little indulgent not trying to wean her off it at her age but I can't bring myself to take it away yet. Hopefully soon her obsession will turn to something else! lol Thanks for reading!!!! I adore the photo in your sig! :)

PKWallaby - Thanks! You're gonna love the Boardwalk. It's bliss!!! And the dining plan was such a treat! Don't leave out a single detail?? Like I could even if I wanted to! :lmao:

Jake & Crew - Awww thanks for the welcome home. :thumbsup2 You're a champ for sticking in there with me. Trying to get unblock my head to get the next part done. Soon for sure!!

Thanks so much! this story is great. I love to read the subtle differences between 2 different countries, such as "kilos" and "celsius" Im curious about your husbands name, the fact that i probably wont be able to pronounce it has me intrigued!! *lol* i love learning about different cultures (names, kilos haha) keep the story going!! :smickey:

Well I just got through all your posts so far and I'm glad to see you're still plugging along. I'm amazed you can still remember all the details after all this time - either that or you're just a really good writer who can make it all up as you go along.

I've laughed and identified with you on so many points so far...having 2 little sons in our family, the same controlled chaos...I'm even PMSing now and have been quite evil the last 2 days (although you haven't been anywhere near evil so far - I'd say you've been "disgruntled and out of sorts", and I love that you admit that to us!).

And like I'm sure many others have said before me, your daughter is SO cute and even though I don't know them, I was so proud of your sons for entertaining Alice on the ride "home" and for offering to stay while you and your husband went out on the Boardwalk - they're two fine young men already! My boys are 5 and 2 yrs and even though I wish I could make time stand still, I can't so I hope they grow to be as responsible and as good friends as your boys seem to be.

So keep the reports coming if possible, I really enjoy your them. So are you planning your next trip yet? How about hitting Disneyland and the West coast? You should check out Kevin Stringer's home page - let me know if you need the address - he's from England and he's travelled here quite a bit with his family. He writes great trip reports too, and had one from the West coast that I'm reading now since we're going there in June.

Bye 4 now!
~Linda
