DS and another friend will be pooling their $$ to purchase the video game for the "Boy who knows what he wants." It was my suggestion, when I found out who else was going to the party. (This other boy I really like and always encourage DS to spend time with him.) DS said it was a great idea. Imagine, ME, with a great idea! Who'dve guessed!?
Anyway, I think that both DS and I learned something from this. I learned that boys have few refined manners. It was interesting as I got responses from different people. Almost every female I asked was incensed, could not believe it, call his mother, (myself included) and on and on. The men, on the other hand were more like "HMMM" So what's wrong with that?" "Sounds like an efficient plan." "Let them work it out."
DS learned that there is more than one way to give an expensive birthday gift. (Truthfully, I think this is a game they all want, so giving it to B is a way they all get to play it. It's funny, between the three of them, they all have different platforms, so they just sort of rotate homes and it's like they have all three.)
I also learned there is a double standard about things. Girls would have gotten chastised far worse for their inept etiquette, and would have been seen as manipulative, whereas the boys were cut more slack and were considered resourceful.
Funny.
Anyway, the bottom line is, he is going to the party, and he is getting him the game he wanted, but he is doing it in a way that is acceptable to me, and to the other boy's parents (Who, strangely enough, ARE made of $$, and yet thought the gift was too expensive. That is part of the reason I like this boy. Even though his parents could run this little pi$$ ant town, they keep a very low profile and their children are modest and have great integrity. Something I value above all else) Oh, and apparently, the birthday boy had solicited for this game from more than one invitee. Hope eveyone comes out the winner here.
Keep the Faith!
