The Everything Pooh Sized Thread

I hope everyone is having a magical day! I recently saw my physician who told me that I have fallen arches, I had x-rays taken and there were no significant abnormalities. Can anyone relate to this, and if you have this same problem what shoes do you wear that are comfortable, and do you have any type of orthotics? I went to DisneyWorld last fall and my feet were so painful and I almost couldn't walk anymore, and I really don't want this to happen again. Any advice or tips would be much appreciated! Thank you.

My podiatrist made my orthodics. I have been flat footed my entire life so I have had orthodics off & on my whole life. At night put ice packs on yu]our feet for 10 minutes. It takes about a week of this before you notice a difference. Also, New Balance, Nikes, & Reeboks were recommended by my podiatrist but I prefer Sketchers for the parks. I don't wear sandals in the parks or any time I have any major walking. If you do not want custom orthodics then try the Dr. Schols (sp?) or Fleet Feet carries some that are green that are not too bad. My insurance covers all but the co-pay on the othodics. My podiatrist is a strange little man but is a wizard when it comes to my feet.

Hello to all! I'm new here. Plannning our first trip to WDW for next summer. Hubby and I have asked my mom to come along. She's very close to our little boys. She's Pooh sized and has expressed several concerns about enjoying the park rides with us. She's a size 26/28 about 5'1" or 2" and carries her weight mostly in her hips, bottom and thighs. I was wondering if you guys could give me any advice on easing her fears about going on this trip with us. Last time she went to a park like this was 6 Flags well over 10 years ago. She couldn't ride a rollercoaster with me and was absolutely crushed. Since then she's just afraid. I don't blame her, but I hate that she feels like this. Any tips on how to make her feel better and more confident I am all ears! Thanks in advance guys and gals!!!

I don't have a problem at 6 Flags or any park but I can tell you I can tell a HUGE difference between WDW on all other parks. I have a friend that is the size you described your mother and she was worried. I reassured her over and over but until she went she didn't believe me. She came back & said she had more than enough room. A woman I work w/ was even larger & she was scared until one of the CM's talked her into riding. No looking back if she wanted to ride it she did.

Anyone have any experience wearing yoga pants in the parks? I have some yoga capris and am going to WDW during the summer (first non-winter trip and the heat scares me). I was thinking yoga capris would be comfy and keep me cooler, but I also know my bum is ginormous (pear shaped, it's 2 sizes larger than my top).. and I've even seen on a trip report here on Dis people making fun of the clothing choices others make (they took a picture of some fashion faux-pas of a stranger and posted it for laughs - so rude!). Any opinions?

Hello! I went to WDW last September and it was so humid and hot, but the one thing that really helped was wearing yoga capri pants, and other workout type capris. The first two days I wore jean capris and just about had it because I was so uncomfortable. I also have a big bum and thighs, and I knew I didn't look pretty but I was comfortable. I also saw other pooh size women wearing the same thing so I think you should be okay. I also thought I will probably never see these people again, and to really enjoy your trip you want to be comfy! Have a great time!

Thank you for the great advice, I will start icing my feet every night. When you are at WDW have you ever worn the Skechers shape ups? I know people swear by those but I don't know if they have flat feet? Thank you so much!

Yes, I have wore them to WDW. The shape ups basically retrain how you walk. I already walk the way they train you bc of my orthodics. They are good shoes & hold up well. Mine are canvas. Whatever you pick make sure you test them often before you go. I wear the mesh water shoes that look like tennis shoes from Lands End for water parks. The have more support than sandals. Also, I wear tennis shoes almost all of the time. At work I wear them w/ chino type pants & a decent top. When I have court I change only long enough for court.

I really would warn against Skechers..I know some people love them ( please don't be mad at me!) but I think you will be much happier with a pair of well fitted sneakers or walking shoes. Go to a real shoe store if you can. Brooks and New Balance are the most often recommended by the pros. Ice or even cold water or pool water even and Ibuprofen if you can take that.or Aleve or even Tylenol ( but not all at once of course!). I find that premedicating a day before and then continuing on with Ibuprofen ( Advil) works great for my feet as well as my back. I know some people cannot tolerate it tho. Glad I can..I have to take quite a bit. Some people say to watch your salt intake but I never follow that advice...I have no real willpower obviously! Last time we went to the parks I switched from my good sneakers to my good sandals (Dansko) for dinner. I think this was helpful too. Have fun and take it easy!

I found the cutest Mickey tee at Old Navy on Thursday. It is a gray t with a mickey head on it that is the American flag. Light weight tee, too. I love it! I am a 20 and the XXL has a roomy fit for me. Not too big, but definitely not tight. Sharing in case anyone is looking for tees with summer here.

Thanks so much! I keep showing her posts from other members. (Visiting with her recently) She's getting more comfortable and excited about riding the rides there with us. Thank you again!:worship:

Absolutely ahe can ride whatever she wants. I am about her size and the only problem I have is with the turnstyles but there are gates at the entrances and at all the rides so she should just ask to enter that way and not try to squeeze through like I have many times before I knew better. I loved Disney with my kids and now I am enjoying it with my garndkids!

Discovered a good flat foot shoe. Brooks Adrenaline- they have the harder piece on the outside that keeps your foot from rolling inward. They are super comforatble on the heal. They are a little pricey. I have started the Couch to 5K program so I thought I would get these. The guy that sold them to me was wearing a pair of Brooks, too. He probably could have talked me into a more expensive pair but didn't really try. The owner was in ear shot & didn't push the others. I am very pleased thus far w/ Brook Adrenaline. I have been flat footed all my life.

I found some awesome bathing suits about womanwithin.com today. I like more of the youthful look and was worried about that site being not so youthful looking, but some of the stuff is! I am excited!:goodvibes

I am starting to have bad flashbacks to riding Winnie the Pooh and the lap bar not coming down all the way. I wasn't worried because I didn't think it was a wild ride and I would be thrown out.

Now I am really worried about Splash and Big Thunder Mountain because I never rode those on earlier trips. I am worried the lap bar won't go down all the way and the CM might not notice.

Do you have any tricks on how to get those lap bars to go down all the way? I am 5'2" and 230LB and must carry most of that in my lower half!

I did go to allears and looked at pictures and read the info but still don't really have an answer.

At my heaviest I weighed 285 at 5'10 and I fit w/ no problem. My husband was larger and he fit w/ no problem. We are a bit smaller now & the only thing we have ever complained about is Astro Orbiter. He complains because he feels cramped & I complain I feel rushed getting out. Don't sweat it. Go have a great time.

Has anyone else had this problem??? Is there any way there was something wrong with that particular bar??? How long ago did this happen? You've got me freaked out now!

All my weight is in my tummy. I have no trouble on Winnie the Pooh. My only note is that I do have to turn side ways on my tippy toes to get in and out of the honey pot. :thumbsup2

We were there in 2004 and 2008. I didn't think about forcing it down or maneuvering myself around to get it to go down all the way because it had never happened to me before. I was kinda embarrassed and kinda in shock but I knew it was ok because the ride was so tame. And I mean it went down part way just not all the way. Is part way ok on these rides? I am worried about some of the other rides. When I was a teen I would ride anything until one time I kept sliding out from over the bar and my boyfriend had to hold me in. I was very small at that age so that is why I couldn't stay in well. It had a big impact on me so now I am a little afraid. Maybe the bar is made to stop and hold you in at various spots and sometimes won't go all the way down??

Because of my tummy the lap bar stops higher than what it would for smaller people but I have never had a problem with a ride and I ride them all including the mountains. I usually ride with a smaller adult and while it allows them more space between them and the lap bar it has never been a problem. I can ride everything at Disney with no trouble.

Did it not "lock" into position? Or did it lock into position at a higher spot? Many of these rides aren't necessarily intended for the bar to go all the way down; rather it's intended to stop where you begin. Is THAT what happened, or was it really just not locked? Is there any chance there was something wrong with your bar?

I honestly don't know. I just remember it and would like to know if it locks at several different spots or if we should try to get it all the way down to lock. I don't care on the little rides but I do care on BTMR or Splash. I hate to rely on the CM to notice because I don't think they look at everybody's lap bar. I know the CMs are great and I don't mean to imply that they aren't but I would rather not have to rely on them, I would rather know ahead of time. If it stops at whatever point you are at and then locks then I am happy, but I just don't know. Does anyone know?
