The End of Refillable Mugs in Disney World?

I guess I'm amazed at how much thought and concern goes into how many refills other guests are getting or which mugs they are using.

We are constantly asked about things to do to make certain occasions special.

Next time I'm asked I'm going to suggest watching the refillable drink stations for a couple of hours.:rotfl:

All this time we've been suggesting they go see La Nouba.

Who knew that all this fun could be had monitoring the fluid intake of others?

:lmao:

Oh Kevin, you should see the reaction this topic gets on the resorts brd. :scared1: The threads always get locked.... Poor "newbies" who ask innocent questions...

It's definitely a necessary evil.

Too many people abuse the system, that's just the way things have become.

Disney has to do what it can to keep things from getting more out of hand.

We're not really soda drinkers, so it won't affect us much.

But, in a related story what does bother me is how much less food is being put out at club and concierge level lounges. Not that I blame Disney for this. I've seen people filling up their purses and backpacks with food and waters, people taking entire 24- count boxes of Uncrustables, etc.

Something has to be done. Everyone pays for the actions of a few.

As one of the earlier posters remarked, you fill the mugs in the morning then have carry them all over the parks.

The mugs just aren't that convenient.

When each resort had different mugs, I bought them mostly for soveigners.

To the poster who said something about newbies asking about refillable mugs questions, you could not have been more correct!!

I've never bought a mug so I didn't know the rules and regulations about this. I simply asked why was it such a big deal if it's the same mug from your trip before. I even said that I don't know anything about this.

People jumped all over me and were really sarcastic. I even had one poster tell me that they couldn't believe that someone with over 1200 posts doesn't know anything about this. I could've responded back, but decided not to.

It's a shame when peole ask questions they really don't know the answers to and people slam them for it:confused3:confused3

But, I think this may be a somewhat good idea because if someone loses their kid or someone in the family, I'm pretty sure they could probably contact a CM or personel at Disney and have them find that person(s).

The only place I will buy a mug is at The Swolphin so I can get Coffee in the mornings. But I think what everyone needs to take away from the thread is that this is one of the first parts of what is to come at the Disney Parks.

I agree that the mugs aren't convenient. Sure we would go to get a drink while hanging around the resort, but most of the time we want to grab a drink on the way out to or way in from the parks. However, we didn't want to carry around a mug at the parks all day so it didn't get used to its full potential. Also I hated having to rinse it out all the time. We are getting the mug ( if it is still there) in Dec. but only bc we are getting the DxDP. Otherwise, we wouldn't spend the money for it.

I would love to see them change the refillable system. I would get much more use out of it. Who knows perhaps it could lead to drink stations at the parks that would be included? Now that would be great.

I was thinking the exact same thing, but not as funny.

"Who knew that all this fun could be had monitoring the fluid intake of others?" :rotfl:

There are some things that I never figure out, but that never cease to amaze me. The endless debate about refillable mugs is one of those things.

And on this board it goes straight into the potty humor. Couple more pages and it will be a different topic.

not to put words in the OP's mouth but i think what he is saying is the thread is not about fluid intake. its about privacy. as i stated in my original post the concept as far as it goes seems reasonable to me. however the mug system itself is almost metaphoric. in other words how much is to much? that issue is playing out on the world stage right now with talks about biometric passports and work visa's to keep tabs on illegal aliens. Question, do "they" have a right to know where "we" are and what we are doing 24 hours a day? be it Disney or Government.

It doesn't cost anything extra either!! :rotfl2::rotfl:

I almost never stay at a WDW-owned resort - so there is no Key to the World card with stored info about me. I do have an annual pass, so they can tell when I enter a park or get a fast pass. However, my store purchases are unknown to them, as are most of my meal purchases - unless I make an ADR.

Maybe not the case if your next annual pass is a plastic card with RFID imbedded init.

After reading all these posts, it seems that Disney wants to use RFID technology to enforce existing policies.

And even if they use this technology to "track" what you do, so what? Do you realize how much of your daily activity is being tracked now?

I know someone who travels on business regularly. He stays at a hotel that he also uses when traveling on vacation with his wife (the city is Chicago). The hotel figured out that when he traveled with his wife, he always ordered a bowl of fruit but when he traveled alone he always ordered chocolate chip cookies. After a few stays, the hotel automatically started putting in the appropriate food in the room based on whether the wife was on the reservation or not.

1984? Who cares?

we need to find Mike a hobby.....apparently photography isn't enough.

I am building Christy 2.0 that has a RFID radio sensor that knows when
I walk by holding my passport, that I need a beverage. When the sensor is horizontal Christy 2.0 will come over and rub my back. etc, etc....:rotfl2:

Will they also be monitoring the fluid out-take? Number and location of potty breaks?

You'll have to use your Key to the World to enter the restroom. It will use RFID to determine how many squares of TP you used. They will also be renaming the key to "Key to the TP"! :lmao:

If you're worried about privacy, I suggest you shut off your computer, get rid of all your ID, and never talk to anyone on the phone.

Conspiracy theorists are just that, theorists. They will find any possible way that "big brother" will come and get you, whether it makes any sense to or not. Companies don't just gather data for the sake of gathering data, it has to make economic sense to do so. They don't care about what any given individual does or doesn't do, it's all about trends, or in other words, what the masses do or don't do.
