Got this email from my CM friend today:
From time to time, we evaluate our offerings to ensure we are providing the best experience for our Guests. As a part of that effort, we are installing refrigerators in all of the Guest rooms at Disney’s All-Star Resort and Disney’s Pop Century Resort for complimentary use for our Guests. We anticipate this project to be complete by the end of April.

So what is going to happen to all of those fridges at the values?

If someone is going soon, would you mind taking pictures and posting them? I hear Movies install is complete as of today, and Pop started today. I know there were rumors floating around about beverage coolers instead of fridges, but these are definitely fridges, NOT beverage coolers.

This would be great if it's true. I guess we'll know in a few days if they are coolers or real fridges (with freezers?).
I've been running a POP fridge swap for over 5 years now (currently on hold waiting for new fridge in June) and would be happy to stop if they give us real fridges.

Allears, net is reporting on their FB page that these are refrigerators. If they are the same type of fridge that Disney has in their moderates and deluxes, then they do not have a freezer section. The Allears report said that they would be starting with POP today and a completion date around the of April for all value resorts.

Someone posted photos of beverage coolers on another thread, not frigs.

So, from the pictures on the POP thread, it looks like these are actual mini-fridges with no freezer compartment. Can anyone verify that these do, in fact, get cold enough to keep milk safely chilled? That's the primary reason we need one, and I just want to make sure before I bow out of my fridge swap.

someone posted photos here:

They are like mini-fridges, but no small freezer compartment. One poster said they added a cup of ice to the fridge to help cooling, and it made a can of soda slushy-like. So I think milk would be ok (not 100% on that though).

also some more here w/ food to show capacity:

While most of us call these mini fridges - Disney is referring to them as "Beverage Coolers".

Here is the picture of the inside and the flyer that was inside of it on arrival.

i dont think this will be the end of the fridge swaps. there are tons of people that go to disney and stay at values and bring their own food for meals and they would still be interested in fridges with actual freezers. and its unsure if these things will actually keep things cold enought

I'm sure they will keep things cold if they will handle medical. I called to book my resie, as you only could by phone 2/29-3/7 for the spring room rate. After many hours on the phone I asked about a fridge for medical and was told I didn't need to reserve as all value hotel would have them by my May stay. On May 7th when the site was working again I saw the fridges added to the value hotel desrip. If they can keep meds at temp cold enough to be safe,
they should be OK. I wouldn't add a lot of warm food at a time with meds though.

It will at least hold the large milk they sell that we need for cereal.

It's about time! I don't even stay at the values and was annoyed they didn't have fridges. I wonder if all the fridge swaps were responsible for the installation of permanent fridges? LOL, I can only imagine those bell services meetings..."I had to deliver 20 mini fridges today!".

HE he:rotfl: Could have been. Most likly it is about money. If all rooms have them thry don't have to pay people to take them in and out and store all the extras. Also they can just raise the rate a little on all rooms and probably make more.

I couldn't believe they didn't have them in the first place. Much lower class hotels/motels have fridges.

I'm sure that these fridges will work just as well as the ones in the moderates and deluxes.

I understand your point about wanting a freezer section but I don't think that enough people are going to want a second refrigerator in their room just because the swap fridge has an itty, bitty freezer section. And if there are not enough people picking up that swap fridge, it is eventually going to get "lost".

If this isn't the nail in the coffin for fridge swaps, it will certainly dial them back considerably.

Hmmm..... I wonder what do you do if you need the freezer compartment for gel packs? I have gel packs that I use for medical reasons and they won't get/stay cold long enough trying to put them in ice cubes. They really need to go in a freezer. Not sure how I'm going to handle that one? :confused3

There are single-use cold gel packs that might work for you. They don't get cold until you squeeze the pack to mix the two chemicals inside. My mother used to use them for her insulin when they traveled. You might be able to find them in a sporting goods store or REI.

I think I know what kind you are talking about. They used them at the hospital. They didn't work very well at all compared to my regular gel packs. They don't really stay cold long enough since I am using them against my body in and often in the hot FL sun and on top of that I would need to buy them by the gross!! I'd probably use a dozen or so per DAY. But thanks for the suggestion! :goodvibes

Call the resort. They probably still have the tiny medical fridges that do have a small freezer compartment. If they don't have them on hand, they'll be able to get one for you.
