The end of DOLLAR car rental ?

Interesting read. We have used Dollar more than any other car rental company, but used Hertz last time without a problem.

Thats good, was very wary as only ever booked dollar before now

Just seen this while searching for info about my company's proposed take-over.
Seems as if Dollar/Thrifty are about to be sold off :sad2:
Making it even less competition for us to choose from.
The article is dated August 21st...anyone have anymore info?

Both Avis & Hertz have been locked in bid battles for about the last 2.5 years to buy Dollar. But due to the continuing decline of brands in the rental car industry there are lots of anti-trust cases happening to approve any take-over bid.

Avis have shelved their bid I think because of it; leaving only Hertz as the remaining bidder. I think as part of the deal they are going to spin off one of their other brands they purchased as to not fall foul of any monopoly ruling. I think it's still up to the courts as to whether they allow the deal to happen. From what I understand Dollar are not exactly putting up any fight other than the general bargaining for maximum value.

Dollar & Thrifty are part of the same group. So you should be fine. :thumbsup2

Not great news for the consumer IMO. Hertz like to keep the prices high whenever possible. I can see prices rising if it ever goes ahead.
