The End of an Era: Christmas Tree Shops Closing

That's sad, from someone who has never been to one in person. We need more old fashioned type stores!

We have a place in town that sells ornaments and trees but nothing seems really good quality. Is this shop nice?

ETA: This seems more like the Yankee Candle we had. They built a huge building and were open about five years before closing.

Hi again neighbor....I loved that Yankee Candle shop. My daughter loved when the snow would fall. We never bought a thing though. :(

We bought a few small things. Also the library sometimes gave coupons as part of the summer reading program for wax hands. The girls loved doing those but I have no idea what became of them.

So sad! Driving to the Cape will never the same. They were always great for all sorts of housewares, etc..

I was in one in Manchester, CT last week and it was pretty empty. They said none of their deliveries had been coming in. This was right before they announced they were closing them. Another lady and I were saying it was only a matter of time.

They didn’t sell just Christmas merchandise, they sold things for all holidays, and lots of housewares and gift items, food, you name it, at good prices. Basically if you went in for one thing, you came out with a lot more than that!

My aunt lived in New Jersey and LOVED that store. I would go with her all the time whenever I visited. I miss her so much and this news makes me surprisingly sad.

I had a feeling something was wrong. The last time I was there, maybe in March, they hardly had any new spring merchandise, but there were still TONS of leftover Christmas and even Halloween stuff.

Oh no, I’m sad to hear this. Love Christmas Tree Shop! There are two in my area (NY) not so close, but one’s about a half hour away and the other an hour away, both part of large outlet malls. Well worth the drive; I’d often make the trip just for CTS.

Didn’t know they were affiliated with Bed Bath and Beyond. Always felt like the name worked against them somewhat, as many like pp mistakenly thought they sold only Christmas items. I will try to go in the next week or two and see what’s left. :worried:

Never heard of them. Pretty small with only 82 stores.

I really hope there is some way to keep the original one on Cape Cod.

Those stores were always full so there is no way it was due to lack of love.

So many stores stupidly or maybe partly willfully invested their money in the markets to keep up the illusion of profitability with the people who make the choices ALWAYS making sure they get paid before the ship goes down :/ The new corporate raiding, it's stealthy but not invisible. One by one we'll see them pile up :(

I *Love* Christmas Tree Shop. Always something interesting in there. I buy curtains and bedding in there for a good price; it allowed me to change the decor of my bedroom easily. We go to the one in Deptford, New Jersey. I'm sorry to see these stores go.

I am soooooo sad to hear that they are closing. I remember going into my first one on the Cape when I was a teenager and loved it. Then I went to college in Worcester Ma. back in 1985 and there was one in an adjacent city. I was super excited when two finally came to NH, first in Salem, then in Nashua. Neither one was near me, but I always made a point of driving to one of them every 3-4 months. So, so bummed that they are closing.........I would say that the Christmas Tree Shops were easily my favorite store!

I'm sad about this, too. I very rarely go (have had one locally wherever I lived since I was a kid), but no trip the Cape was complete without a stop on the way at the windmill, and sometimes a Christmas Tree Shop & Cuffy's day- driving around to the different locations. All of my porcelain dolls I had as a child came from the Christmas Tree Shop.

The Christmas Tree Shop at the Sagamore Bridge was my favorite CTS location. I love the Cuffy's Store in Dennis. They remodeled the store, and it reminds us of the Main St Confectionary at MK.
