I read in one of my guide books that The Enchanted Tiki Room
Under New Management might scare young children. Do you think that's true? My daughter is 5 and can be scared very easily.

Scary - not at all.

If you have a sensitive child, maybe prepare her by playing the Tiki Room song, and let her know it's a lot of fun to watch all the birds sing and dance.

Sit close to her and let a CM know before the show starts that she may be a little bit uneay, and if she get's nervous, they should be able to direct you to an exit.

Here's what is scary about the Tiki Room:

1. LOUD in places. Not a "we're trying to startle you " loud, just typical Disney "if we have a choice we're cranking the volume up" loud.

The Iago charcter (and Gilbert Gottfried's voice) at loud volume is a little much. Again, not "on purpose" scary, but startling.

The goddess Polynesia - if you are not old enough to get the joke of the song she sings, etc. it would be scary to see her red eyes in an otherwise dark room.

The Tiki Gods and the darkness, brief thunder and lightning, etc. Again, loud but not on purpose scary.

My younger daughter was just on the edge of being terrified when she was small - about this age. She "braved up" and made it through - and fell in love with the show. We saw it again immediately and I think three more times on that trip. To this day (and she is now 15) we must see it at least twice on every trip.

The Tiki Room is easy to see, so my advice would be to send one of you in to see it. If Dad can entertain your little one and you can see it you'll have a good idea of what is coming. Then you can see it as a family and you'll be prepared to hold a hand, cover her eyes, etc. whatever you need to do.

We think it's adorable (and also 15 minutes seated in air conditioning!!!!) so we never miss it. Don't automatically cross it off your list without one of you trying it first.

We are have a child with needs on the spectrum...He gets scared of loud noices and other sights very quickly...He did not get scared at all in the Tiki Room.

I think it depends on your child. OP says that their child scares easily. In that case I would try it out first or skip it.My DD scared easily so naturally it scared her. Like I said it is very dark and gets loud .

I recommend not sitting on the first row since the Tiki Goddess can be a little scary when it comes up and starts to "talk". Scarred the heck out of my DD and she has yet to agree to go back to the Tiki Room. Loves singing the song, but hates the show. :rotfl:

My daughter scares easily from loud noises and darkness, but she was fine in this attraction. She enjoyed seeing all of the birds. It is not meant to be frightening at all. I think the aspects of the loud volume and the dark room make it more frightening. When I say dark room, it is not total darkness, there are may bright colors and spotlights on the birds, and you can see around the theater.

it is not meant to be frightening at all but there are certain parts where it goes all black and then thunder occurs. The first time my dd saw it she was not a happy gal. Sit further in the back and you won;t be so close to the tiki god. Also, when the goddess is angry- the polls in the back which are silly looking are talking so i got mine to focus on those.

My 20 month old grandson saw the show.... he loved it so much he kept saying "do again!" "do again!" for an hour after the show. He even asked if he could take one home. I guess every child is different so my answer would be, it depends on your child.

I could see how the thunder & lightning could frighten a kid that might be apprehensive about storms in the first place. If you decide not to take your child, try to see the show anyway because that storm effect is so cool(and it won't scare you). :earsboy:

It's scary how that song gets stuck in your head, but otherwise it's not too bad.

I can see how the Tiki room can be seen as scary from a child's point of view.

I can also see how Gottfreid's voice would scare some adults, too. :lmao: He comes across as really LOUD!

My 3yr old DD isn't usually scared (loved haunted mansion, pirates etc..) but she did not like the volume in the tiki room and covered her ears for most of the show

Yes, it is scary for some children. After seeing the show most recently we heard some people mention that it was much more frightening than they thought for kids. The REALLY terrifying part for kids is when the freaky-looking goddess emerges into the center of the room.

Here is a picture of her I found:

Yikes! :scared:

Yes, I agree that the Enchanted Tiki Room can be kind of an intense show. For a sensitive child, I would likely not recommend it. My friend's son got scared and cried during the rainstorm bit at our local Rainforest Cafe when he was three. I would not have taken him in the Tiki Room. As a child, I freaked out at Country Bear Jamboree when the animal heads on the wall started talking. :rotfl: It's really very disturbing when you think about it! I had to be removed.

Sensitive kids might not like the Tiki Room. You have been warned.

My son freaked out the last time we were there (he had just turned 4). I was a bit surprised, since he loved it when we were there 6 months earlier (and the year before that).

We just got up and left, it wasn't a big deal.

Like other posters said, it's pretty loud in there, and no one even heard him scream and cry that he wanted to leave. The second we stepped outside, he was fine. In fact, later he mentioned how he didn't like when the rain started in the funny bird house. So I think if we had stayed he would've calmed down and really enjoyed it.

If you are really concerned, skip it or try to sit in the last row, close to the exit.

Like other people said, I would be most concerned about the goddess part. Maybe you can show her a video of it on YouTube to see what she thinks, though it may not be an accurate indication since it is dark and loud when actually in the show.

My daughter also got scared last year (she was almost 4), and survived it only b/c we used a tip from these boards about bringing a small flashlight for the child. She cuddled up against me when she was scared, just looking at the flashlight (so no one else was disturbed by it). We skipped it this year just b/c its just too darn loud and dark. Next year I think she'll be ready for a try again.
