The Enabler's Report DTSK 2/06 - NEW 4/7 - Day 2, My EE Hangover

Well Karen I am with you on the Ancient Art of Luggage Stacking and Stroller Juggling. Our personal best was the trip with 4 suitcases, 3 backpacks, a computer and one umbrella stroller. And 3 carseats. Yep.

You sound organized and prepared. I know this will be a great trip.

You lost me with the PT Cruiser. We, well DH really, wanted one. I was ok with that. It was the GOLD color I objected too... but alas and alack it ended up that the Cruiser was too small for our needs. I mean how could you pass up a cartoon car? one that looks like the driver should be wearing a pinstriped zoot suit?

another great installment! :cheer2:

Hello, Karen.....So nice to finally meet the Enabler! Loved Kim's report now lovin yours too. I, too, am frugal.........OK I'm cheap so I had to laugh at your deline of all helpful services. Can't wait to hear more.......

Exactly. Does that guy in the picture look like one you would catch in a zoot suit? If you knew my husband you would understand :teeth:

Cass - hopefully there will be no glaring necessary. I'll do my best ;)

lexmelinda - you just wait for the next installment...my frugal ways are completely blinded by the Florida sun. yikes!

As the mother of "only 1" I can't imagine how you handle 3 toddlers in Disney World. Wow! I can't wait to read how it unfolds popcorn::

Hi, Karen

Loving your report. Don't worry about the grammar, just write what's in your heart.

I can't wait to read the rest as my DD is the same age as your eldest. I've bookmarked it for when I return.

Hi Minnie & Lisabelle - thanks for watchin!

We have arrived
As we approach the entrance to Disney’s Beach Club, we have the standard discussion of valet/self-park, bell hop/lug-it-ourselves. On this day, we have decided that we will valet AND bell hop. Yes my friends, we have arrived. We have met the day that we would utilize services that just a few years prior were considered only for the spoiled or wimpy. We decide that I will go inside to check in, and the rest of the family will wait in the car in the event the room is not ready. The cast members must witness this plan quite often, because the kindly greeted me without swarming the vehicle as if to say “We’ll leave you alone until you come back”.

As I walked into the Beach Club, it was as if I was seeing it for the first time, which as a guest I was. When I was a cast member I was fortunate enough to have a behind-the-scenes tour of this resort, but for some reason that all left me and I saw it just as I should, amazing. I was greeted by the friendliest gentleman who pointed me in the right direction. There was no line at the check in counter, and the process was painless. Now I am never one to make requests. Other than non-smoking, the room location/view is not important to us (or so I thought), so I never even thought to look or ask where the room was. I was handed my “Welcome Home” packet of information, and with resort map & room keys hand I practically skipped out the door to my awaiting family.

The handful of documents must have been the tell-tale sign to the bellman that we would indeed be staying. He promptly asked if we needed assistance and I replied with a healthy “Yes please”! While everything was being unloaded I informed the man of our package that was here waiting for us. He said he would check on it and get it right to our rooms. Now in this moment of vacation excitement & insanity I handed over a very hearty tip to this man. For some reason in my head I was thinking that he would park the car, take our bags from the car, run to the storage are to retrieve our package, and then wheel it all himself to our Villa. In my normal state of mind, I know that this is not how things go…but I was excited, reasonable thinking had escaped me. Of course as we turned over the keys to another cast member it dawned on me…the error I had made. With all the excitement of arrival, my clear head had been momentarily clouded. Of course I tipped the valet, and again tipped the friendly bell person that delivered our luggage, and again tipped the other bell person that delivered our package. All told, I’m not sure exactly how much this particular check-in cost us but I’m sure that we’re talking a bit more than a couple Mickey bars & turkey legs. These cast members were friendly, kind, prompt so I’m going to chalk this error up to they deserved it, and I could afford it, so be it.

Now I mentioned earlier, this is Tuesday. And for some strange reason, things seem to work a bit differently for our family on Tuesdays; including room assignments. With all of our visits we have never had a bad room assignment, and really quite honestly I questioned if there really could be a bad room assignment on Disney property. Now I know and believe that one mans trash is another mans treasure, and this room is case in point. If you wanted to be super, super close to your car in the parking lot, this was the room for you. We were the very laaaaaaaaaaaast room on the second floor, 278 to be exact.

Here are our girls at the entrance to the villa buildings:

I was very thankful that we brought enough stroller seating for all three of our kids, because at the end of a long day….that last leg of the journey to rest would be agony for little feet. It would not have been my first choice of rooms, but thankfully we were prepared to handle the extra walking and I will admit the easy access to the parking lot was nice.

Family refuses help because they want to save the money for an extra Mickey bar or turkey leg.

You DON'T actually eat those things, do you?? :crazy2:

I swear as we walked away the crowd hushed, as if they have witnessed a Disney family traveling phenomenon.

Well, they did! And you are!!

Now I won’t go into great detail on the PT cruiser fiasco, because to most it wouldn’t seem like a fiasco…but for my macho husband & his conservative (but would like to be hot someday) wife, a PT cruiser would have to rank dead last on cars that we would like to own.

C'mon, you were cute as heck in it. And btw you ARE hot. Hello? You've always been the hot one. And I can spell. Woo hoo!!!!

Twinkie, I know him, and definitely not. He doesn't even like pesto!

You must be the punctual, dependable sister I can tell, there will be no need to glare at you
Right. She is. Rub it in. I LIKE the glaring. Finger tapping. Baseball bat wielding. And especially the ANGRY EYES!!

All I can say is....more PLEASE!!! I couldn't find a begging smiley, so this one will have to do :worship: Can't wait for more

By the way, my family and I went in May. We had 5 adults and my 3 kids and we were struggling, so you absolutely amaze me!

Um, no way. Meat on a bone...are you crazy? I had a run in with a discarded turkey leg in the HOP, it scarred me forever.

Not that I was always the hot one, just the troublemaker so I stood out more. :cool2:

Yea, but he does like Disney, so I'll keep em. :cloud9:

This angry eyes comment just got me ROFL, almost literally. All I can think of is Mrs. Potato head in Toy Story II as she packs Mr. Potato in the final credits "I'm packing your Angry Eyes just in case" :rotfl2:

Thanks for reading NOLady!
We were there in May as well! Thankfully between these two trips I was turned on to the TRB by the Meanest Mother, so I knew to take daily notes of our adventures. It makes it so fun to look back on!

Welcome mickayla glad you've joined me. :sunny:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Ok this is so fun having Kim and Karen around....

Count your blessings gals...
My husband wants a zoot suit
And I have to keep talking him out of it...

Ok I am ready for more!

Twinkie
who is the older, responsible, thrifty sister

P.S. Always pack your Angry Eyes. I do.

Settling in
The room itself was great. The décor was pleasant, although it was beginning to show some wear. Our view was less than spectacular, but view really isn’t important to me. This was our first stay in a two-bedroom, alone. We had one prior stay in a 2BR in Hilton Head, but we shared space with the Mean Mom & her family, it seemed to be plenty of space at the time. However today when we dispersed our party of five into an entire 2 bedroom ourselves, we realized that we had no idea how great & necessary the extra space would be. The girls would share the second bedroom; they thought it was super cool as they had their own drawers full of clothes, their own TV, couch, their own bathroom. Mousekeeping was kind enough to quickly bring us a full size crib upon our request. We wheeled that into the master bedroom where our baby boy would sleep. In hindsight, the crib location was bad as the a/c would blow directly to that side of the room. He would wake several times a night, and upon seeing his slumbering parents would cry until we rescued him from his metal cell.

Now normally upon arrival of our room we take the time to organize & unpack. However on this day we were starving. Food. Necessary. Immediately. We figured the quick walk to the Boardwalk would be the best choice. ESPN is somewhat loud & relaxed therefore our over tired weary travelers would hopefully go unnoticed if they weren’t on their best behavior. It was now that we realized just how far away our room was from anything “quick & easy”. The walk was forever (or so it felt), but the food was good. It wasn’t long before we started the journey back around Crescent Lake to our home for the next seven days.

We never do parks on day one. Although we are typically at our resort by noon, we take this day to relax, unwind and settle in. Today would be no exception. The girls retreated to their room to do their coloring projects and watch the Disney cartoon classics. I unpacked and organized before taking DS with me on my quest to fill the refrigerator.
This is why I take him with me:

It was a relatively quick trip to Publix, although I did take the long way through Downtown Disney, because I wanted to drive by my old stomping grounds, the famous or infamous Vista Way Apartments. It looks the same, although the area surrounding it has seen quite a bit of commercial development. This grocery store trip would certainly not be a Tuesday type of trip, because it went perfectly. I found everything I needed/wanted/and then some. The shelves were stocked with brands we were accustomed to, clean atmosphere, friendly people…I love Publix. They even pushed my cart to the car and loaded the groceries into it. Must be a southern thing?

It was an early evening for us. We had been up since (to quote the Meanest Mama) “waytoearlythirty” and had an entire week to look forward to. The girls were so excited to have their own room, the practically put themselves to bed and drifted off almost immediately. Our little boy, on the other hand, wasn’t so fond of his metal crib. Or maybe it was the fact that he was being left in a different room alone. Whatever it was, he cried himself to sleep (thankfully it didn’t take long) and for the first time I was thankful that we were the very last room in the resort.

Well that first day went very well considering you had 3 littles ones along :)

Thanks for the frequent installments, maybe when you are finished your trip report you can help your sister with hers?

:rotfl: :rotfl: Typical! Folks, this is why my kids love their Uncle Buzz so much. Because he does stuff like putting them on top of refrigerators and tossing them so high their heads hit my ((cathedral!!!)) ceiling.

Cute kids. I'll have to find your sisters Trip report. I'll be staying at the Boardwalk during Easter and I plan on doing lots of walking.

Subscribing. Love your trip report! Waiting for more! Very cute kids by the way!

I am not a writer. I’ll even go so far as to admit to you that I failed English in high school (which will probably become quite obvious). I apologize in advance for my bad grammar and inappropriate use of punctuation.
No need to apologize. But I am sending pixie dust that Chapter 11 the edit enforcer and grammer and spelling police does not find your trippie.
I need to take my sister, The Meanest Mother’s, advice and realize that done IS better than perfect.
Well, she needs to heed her own advice, as her trippie is er, not done.... :teeth:

This is a great start, Sis! I am in. :yay:

Oh, and Great report. Thanks for sharing.:thumbsup2

Ummm karen, I just read 3 installments on your sister's TR.

What's up with that? Where are you, my dear?
