The Empty Nesters Magical Mystery Tour *1/28* Link to New Girl's TR p141

Ugh, I'm so sorry you had stomach issues. Glad you got it figured out and taken care of. Not a fun way to end your vacation!

Jill in CO

Wiliamsburg sounds so lovely... Plus Busch Gardens!!!

You know it's funny, but I just realized that when I get caught in the rain in MK it's usually in Tomorrowland. Moral of the story... stay away from Tomorrowland.

And the Peoplemover is usually my go to ride to get out of the rain.

Well, since it was raining I'll give a pass on the ponchos for Splash... barely, lol.

Oh my goodness Mary Ellen, that all sounds so awful in the best of situations (that being you're home). But to have all that in Disney is heartbreaking. So very glad you've healed up of course. That's the important thing.

That Zebra print in particular is stunning.

Your pain must have been pretty bad to seek medical attention while in WDW. Did any particular food trigger it? I'm glad that it is all healed now. :goodvibes

So sorry you had to deal with the pain on vacation but glad to hear you're now healed. Beautiful pictures around AKL!

oh NO!! The rain looks miserable, but I am SO sorry to hear about your stomach issues and the fact that you had to take a 24hour "time out"! I am glad to hear that you're feeling all better now though.

Oh how I LOVE everything in the AKL gift shop!

Oh my gosh, that just absolutely stinks. And while I'm sure it was not pleasant for them to put you through all of that stuff, at least you did find out what was going on.

It was actually relief to know I had a bad gastritis. At first I thought I was imagining it. At least I knew I wasn't going crazy!

At least it happened to you when you still had time left in Florida. Not to say it was because you would miss Disney time, but I couldn't imagine something like that going down when I had to leave in a few hours or a day.

I could have waited until I got home, but then it would have interfered with work and I really didn't want that because of my upcoming intense work scheduled. So I felt like I had to get it sorted out before my vacation ended.

I love the Rhinos are Just Chubby Unicorns shirt. :lmao:

I wish that was true! :rotfl: They are a lot scarier than unicorns, that's for sure!

Doesn't Disney know it's not supposed to rain when "we" are there? You look very serious on Buzz.

I know, right???? :rotfl: I REALLY look so serious in that second picture. I wanted to win. BAD! :rotfl2:

:lmao::lmao::lmao: you are the only person I know who wears a poncho on Splash Mountain when you are already wet from the rain. ;)

Hey - why night? Those silly Disney ponchos are actually big when you try to roll them up - big and bulky. It was actually just easier to wear it then try to store it. Sad, but true!

I'm not a fan of Pecos BIlls, but Denny's burger looks good...perhaps we should give it another try. :confused3

I think they have good burgers there. It's one of those places where I really do enjoy eating a burger. They are always tasty!

I'm so sorry about the stomach issue and you lost a day at Disney. But glad they were able to give you something to help until you got home for the test and that you are now feeling so much better.

At the time I was actually embarrassed that I lost an entire 24 hours and I didn't want to talk about it for awhile. But now I realize that it was just 24 hours and an investment in my health, so it all turned out for the best.

You sure made up with it with the pictures around AKL. I do love that resort and can't wait to be there in 40 days. I want to just sit in that lobby and soak it all in.

Yayayayayay for 40 days! :cool1: I know you love it there. I'm not sure if we will be there at all in October, although Boma wouldn't be a bad pre cruise breakfast choice. Hmmmmm.....

Great gift shop pics too; they truly have THE best gift shop at AKL of all the resorts in my opinion.

They do have a great gift shop because there are so many uniquely themed items in there. AKL is really one of a kind in so many ways.

Anxious to hear about your Epcot day.

Coming up!

Yay for getting flights!!! :woohoo:

I am so happy that my Friday night flight was a great price. I really only had a small margin of time to get there since I wasn't able to take off Friday. I'm also happy with the return time on Sunday. I'm not a big fan of Sunday flights because they are so expensive. So it all worked out really well!

I am sorry that you lost a day to feeling so ill. I guess though given how dreary a day it was... better that day than a nice sunny one. More than anything though, I am glad that you are feeling better. Stress is no fun!!! And it really and truly can affect our quality of life. :goodvibes

I really do think that stress was a big factor in me developing gastritis (and those adult beverage didn't help lol). I am glad those days are all behind me now! :thumbsup2

Mary Ellen- I am glad you are felling better and your doctor accurately diagnosed and treated you with appropriate medication. Take care of yourself!

Thanks Rebecca. I am so much better now. I'm settled into my job, the stress in manageable, and I feel great! :)

I love your AKL pictures, as you said, never too many!

Thank you! I just love that resort. I really think its the most unique of all the Disney resorts. The theme just carries in so many directions.

I am going to Boma for dinner with my mom next Saturday. Can't wait. Love it there.

Enjoy! That's great! Is this a mom-daughter trip? How fun!!!!!

Have fun at Williamsburg. Nick getting ready to go back to school? Connor goes back August 23 and he is ready.

Thanks. It's just a 4 night trip, but it should be a lot of fun. I love it there!

Nick goes back on the 24th and class starts on the 26th. Nick had a great first year and I'm sure Connor did as well. I think he's ready to go back. He worked at BJ's this summer and did some soccer ref'ing this summer and also picked up some free lance landscaping jobs through the UD classified.

Here's to wishing both boys a great sophomore year!

Love your trip reports!

Rebecca

Thanks! :good vibes

Great update! Rainy days are the pits on vacation and I hate it that you had to cut short your day at MK but I'm glad the malady has been solved and you are much better! :thumbsup2

That was the first really bad weather I've had at Disney. I've had plenty of summer rain, but that was an all day affair. Blah!

And, yes, I am much, much better!

The rhino shirt is hysterical!

:welcome: MadNic! Thanks for joining in! And welcome to the DIS boards. I hope you love it here!

That shirt IS pretty funny! Very unique!

Oh Mary Ellen, I'm so sorry to hear that the stomach issues flared up again and you had to seek medical attention. It sounds like a good thing that you did though since it could have been way worse than the beginnings of an ulcer.

The pictures of the AKL lobby are simply gorgeous! I want to go back there and have more time to look around. We were in such a rush to get to our dinner that I didn't get to explore like I wanted.

Oh my gosh when I was reading about your pain, I could have sworn it was ulcer pain. I was diagnosed last Summer with an ulcer and it was some of the worst pain i've ever had. Can you believe I went 2 full weeks of this daily pain without medical attention?! I thought it would just go away..so dumb of me. But I'm so glad you found some medication to help you!

I just love the AKL lobby and you got some great shots without any people!

:lmao: I love the rhino and giraffe shirts!

I loved your pre-update updates!

The trip to Williamsburg sounds fantastic. I know it is right up your alley and it is on my bucket list.

:cool1: on booking your flights for the PHM (and just a tiny boo that they are not a day or two sooner)

The B&B in Melbourne sounds incredible!

Remind me- what are the ports of call for your cruise?

***********************************************

That stinks about the rain at the MK and really sucks that you were continuing to have such severe stomach pain- smart move to address it, though, even if it did mean losing some Disney time.

I am so glad to hear you are feeling better now.

Your pictures of the AKL lobby are gorgeous!!! Absolutely stunning!

:goodvibes

LOVE this shirt!

Not to brag or anything, but I invented "Girrafic Jam" back in 2003 while on the drive-through safari at Six Flags/Great Adventure in NJ.

Silly me- I never trademarked it.

:sad2:

I'm sorry for your pain, and your lost time. Not a good time to have that happen. I'm glad you are okay now.

Love the resort pics! I noticed all the different colors in the seating areas - it brings out different colors in the wood - so artistic.

It is never fun to be sick at Disney.:( You were smart enough to know that you'd had enough before it got to a point where you'd be out for the count entirely.

That "Giraffic Jam" shirt is the best. I'll have to re-visit their gift shop to see what gems are hiding there.

Because the line was still short and it was still pouring , we decided to circle back for a second spin.
That's convenient. Usually when it is raining is about the only time I see a long line there.:rotfl2:

We decided to take our chances and see if Splash was running. Splash is wet! Rain is wet! It could happen.

And it did!

That would be us, the poncho people in the front two rows. A little rain can’t stop us!
It's raining...

so you ride Splash...

in ponchos... :faint: :rolleyes1

Good “Ol Pecos Bill.
I don't know what it is about that place, but I swear those burgers are better than the typical Disney burger.

Perhaps if it had been a lovely, sunny day I would have tried again to forget about the stomach pain. But the fact that it was just god-awful miserable in that soaking rain made my stomach pain seem even worse.

I told everyone “I have to leave”
Don't blame you a bit. Nothing to be gained by staying around the park if you're going to feel miserable.

Apparently the doctor that I saw was not willing to just give my Protonix or Nexium and send me on my way. I ended up getting the fully workup. I won’t go into details, but the consensus was my heart was fine and my gall bladder was fine. But I needed an endoscopy. Which I elected to have done when I returned home. In the mean time I got pumped full of several different types of anti-ulcer meds.
You probably made the right call to go seek medical attention, but man, that's just brutal. Sorry you couldn't get something to just help you get by the next couple of days until you could return home and see your doctor.

Bottom line - after taking Protonix for 6 months I am healed. In fact, I felt better in a matter of days on the right medication.
I'm glad it was nothing serious and you now have it under control.

Up Next - Fully recovered or at least recovered enough for one last trip to Epcot.
I hope this includes being able to partake of at least a few EPCOT specialties before you leave.

Ugh...That totally sucks...but at least you were on your way to recovery and now feel much better.

Um ok I feel like the worst friend ever and bad roommate as I had no idea!!!!! No. Not surprising you internalized everything and thank god you got help before I got worse but oh Mary Ellen I am so sorry you had to go through that!!!

So happy the medication did it's trick, you certainly seemed fabulous in may :)

How would you know? I never talked about it. I knew I was going through some weird phase and my emotions and GI tract were too tightly bound. I knew the best thing was to let it run its course. I'm so much better now and had no issues what-so-ever in May! May was such a fun trip! :cool1:

That is so you, to go on splash, in the rain, in ponchos. I love it.

Yup - that IS me! Hey - those Disney ponchos are big and bulky and hard to fold. That's why I never packed the thing for May. I couldn't make it small enough. :rotfl:

So sorry you weren't feeling well and lost a day but thank goodness it wasn't something much more serious. I admit when you said "lower chest/upper abdomen" my first thought was- "Gallbladder!" So glad for your sake that's not what it was. (I had mine out in 2011). glad the Protonix did the job and you are better now. Also thank you for not leaving us in suspense. :)

Yup - gall bladder was definitely a thought. At the time I felt so crappy that I was actually hoping it was my GB. Now I'm glad it wasn't and just stupid gastritis. Finding out WHAT was wrong did help make everything better. The Protonix worked like a charm!

Did you really think I was going to leave you in suspense? :rotfl:

Hope you have a great time!

Thanks! We always have a blast there. It's my second favorite "go-to" vacation spot under Disney. I hope we get could weather and an uncrowded Busch Gardens! That would be awesome! Tourists go home. Last time we went in August the only families there were from NY.

I have been waiting for this cruise for a LONG time! SOOOOO ready! :cheer2:

Not too shabby!

It's not 999,999, but it will do! :thumbsup2

Does that Space Mountain sign say 10-minute wait?? That's the place to be!

I think it does, but I wasn't sure so I'm glad you affirmed my visual. It was still fairly early and, with the weather, I wouldn't be surprised.

Do the ponchos really help at this point? :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Of course they do! :confused3 You of little faith! :rotfl2:

UGH. I'm so sorry. Glad to hear it wasn't life-threatening, but it still sounds just awful.

It was really more of a PITA and it was starting to become concerning. Once I found out exactly what was wrong I was able to deal with it better and just concentrate on feeling better.

I could stare at that building all day.

Me too and the animals outside of it!

So sorry to hear about the lost day at Disney. I am very glad, though, that you got the care you needed and are back to good health.

Thanks! In the long run losing a day at Disney does not seem so bad and right now it all feels like ancient history. At the time I didn't want to talk about it at all, but now I can put it all in perspective.

Love the AKL pictures.

Thank you! :good vibes

Ugh, I'm so sorry you had stomach issues. Glad you got it figured out and taken care of. Not a fun way to end your vacation!

Jill in CO

Thanks Jill!

It wasn't the best way to end a vacation, but now it really doesn't seem so bad. I just know that stress is not good for me and I will probably always develop GI issues when under stress.

Wiliamsburg sounds so lovely... Plus Busch Gardens!!!

I love Williamsburg. I just enjoy all the history there, although I don't have the same attention span as Denny does. He could read and listen to every last detail. He's just wired that way.

BG williamsburg is actually a very pretty park. It's not Disney, but it has some top notch rides. Late August is a great time to go because its pretty empty.

You know it's funny, but I just realized that when I get caught in the rain in MK it's usually in Tomorrowland. Moral of the story... stay away from Tomorrowland.

:rotfl: OK - I'll remember that next time! Seriously, I am usually super lucky about avoiding long periods of rain, but not so much on this day.

And the Peoplemover is usually my go to ride to get out of the rain.

Love Peoplemover! :worship:

Well, since it was raining I'll give a pass on the ponchos for Splash... barely, lol.

:rotfl2: Awwwww - Come on now! :rotfl2:

Oh my goodness Mary Ellen, that all sounds so awful in the best of situations (that being you're home). But to have all that in Disney is heartbreaking. So very glad you've healed up of course. That's the important thing.

Well, truth is I had been having heart burn that started int he summer right before I started my new job. But I kept telling myself it was in my head. Then - you know how it is - new foods, daily adult beverages. It ended just being a bit too much.

That Zebra print in particular is stunning.

Isn't that lovely? I so wish I could afford some of the artwork at Disney. And that would be one of them.

Your pain must have been pretty bad to seek medical attention while in WDW. Did any particular food trigger it? I'm glad that it is all healed now. :goodvibes

I had been having some heart burn symptoms for quite awhile, but it got bad in Disney. I'm sure it wasn't any particular food. I think it was the over eating, the rich food, and, of course, the daily onslaught of adult beverages. It was just too much for me at the time.

I started with the lobby.

There is just something about that lobby! :lovestruc

Can’t recall what these were.

Little treasure boxes.

I am so sorry the stomach pain came back with a vengeance. I hope Denny felt bad about the stomach pinching when he found out what was going on. Bummer to lose vacation time but better to take care of yourself. You'll be back to Disney.

Congrats on booking your flights! And too cool about BCV and BWV!

So sorry you had to deal with the pain on vacation but glad to hear you're now healed. Beautiful pictures around AKL!

Thanks Dawn! Yup - good as new. I had had some milder symptoms for awhile. That's why I even entertained going gluten free and I actually felt better the week I laid off the gluten. But I think this was a combo of stress, different types of food, and adult beverages. Glad its all behind me now.

oh NO!! The rain looks miserable, but I am SO sorry to hear about your stomach issues and the fact that you had to take a 24hour "time out"! I am glad to hear that you're feeling all better now though.

Looking back now the 24 hour hiatus doesn't seem so bad. I really needed to get it sorted out. It was actually something I ignored for awhile until I just could ignore it anymore.

And thank you!

Oh how I LOVE everything in the AKL gift shop!

I know, right? Isn't everything just so cool????

Oh Mary Ellen, I'm so sorry to hear that the stomach issues flared up again and you had to seek medical attention. It sounds like a good thing that you did though since it could have been way worse than the beginnings of an ulcer.

I really let stress get to me and then all the various eats and drinks at F&W sort of did me in. I'm glad I got it sorted out and the Protonix really did the trick. I am much, much better now!

The pictures of the AKL lobby are simply gorgeous! I want to go back there and have more time to look around. We were in such a rush to get to our dinner that I didn't get to explore like I wanted.

Thank you! It really is a lovely resort to explore. I hope you do get a chance to go back and visit when you are less rushed. It's really fun to make the resort rounds and spend some quality time at a few favorites!

I didn't know that. You poor thing. But why would you even think an ulcer. Generally when you are young and healthy its one of the last things to cross your mind. I'm so glad you got treated promptly. I have a friend who didn't know he had one until he was actually passing blood. Not good!

I just love the AKL lobby and you got some great shots without any people!

Isn't that lobby wonderful? I like the Kidani lobby but this one is just so much grander.

:lmao: I love the rhino and giraffe shirts!

They are both so cute! Love them! :thumbsup2

Oh my! That is no Bueno to need to seek medical attention on vacation. Thank goodness it was not like Denny's trip to the hospital. I was on Protonix prior to having my gallbladder removed. It helped immensely with my heartburn. So glad you were able to rally for one more Epcot trip!

Oh Mary Ellen how awful to be sick in Disney !!! Glad you are all better now !! Great pix and updates !!! Denny's burger looked delish !!! Soo you are off to Williamsburg !!! Say Hello to my Ghost !!!!
