The DVC Tour

Hi,
Can anyone describe the DVC tour for me? On our last morning, we were going to do DTD until lunch at RFC at 2pm, then back to resort for ME. I'm assuming there's a DVC kiosk at DTD, right? I've seen some posts saying it could range from 2-4 hours and they could take you on the spot from the kiosk to the tour. I'm curious what the plan for the tour is....what's the sales pitch like? Do they give you all the financial information? I haven't seen annual membership dues posted anywhere here? What are the annual dues? I'm assuming they're attached to how many points you have and which resort you have, right? Is that "public" information?

First, you are doing the right thing by being on these boards and reading up on DVC before the tour. It is always good to be prepared.

I also would order the free promotional DVD from the Disney website.

I cannot pinpoint the exact thread with the fee schedule, but do a search on this website and you should find it. Essentially, at this time, SSR has the lowest fees, and they are running a promo of $86 a point with a DVC member referral instead of the usual $101.

My tour was 4 hours. It was not at all due to the tour guide being pushy, etc. It was really my DH and I asking a ton of questions, and we did the paperwork to purchase at that time. So, I would say it could be 2-3 hours depending on your interest as well. Our tour guide was very easy going, very helpful, and we had a good time. It was not a situation that some have experienced at other timeshares where one is essentially held captive. You can leave the DVC tour without buying, and get some promotional materials. It is up to you. The guides know that it is a big decision.

We saw the sample units for a studio, 1 br, 2br and GV. We also saw the common areas, such as the pool, spa, fitness area, eating areas, play areas, etc. You are not stuck in a conference room for the whole tour. You do walk around and see SSR. I believe we also saw a short video about the other national and international locations to use points.

You may want to consider making a reservation for the tour with DVC since you are constrained to return for ME.

The dues at SSR are currently $3.98 a point.
Good idea to set up an appointment now (or even take a phone tour), and get the info before you head down. That way you can think of all the questions beforehand.
The tours are low-key, no-pressure affairs.

When we went, it was our departure day and we had a 10 hour drive ahead of us so we got an appointment for early in the morning. We told the person we were meeting with that we only had one hour and new a good bit about DVC so give us the reader's digest version. We talked, saw a short video, ran numbers and then did a quick tour. We were out in an hour, and were quite pleased that the tour was customized to our needs and request.

We did our tour on our departure day, and wanted time to have lunch (on them!) after the tour before leaving for the airport. It ended up taking about an hour. We saw the ground, etc, but we skipped seeing the grand villas.

We arranged our appointment at the kiosk at our hotel. The cast member there did give me all the financial information when we booked the tour. I asked about it and he was very open with the information.

When we took the tour in 2003, they were giving out meal vouchers. I don't know if they are still doing this (I don't think so).

When we took the tour, it was at Boardwalk, it took us 1-1/2 hours at the most. We told the guide that we were interested but couldn't make a decision to buy that day. He took us on the tour, went over all the numbers, discussed point amounts (we decided on 180 but are ready to add-on ), and left us with info. There was no pressure whatsoever. I would make an appt. beforehand and I'm sure they can make it as quick or long as you would like.

When we booked the tour, they indicated that we'd get 15.00 towards lunch. It ended up being 15.00 each and on a gift card. We used it for lunch and a caramel apple afterward.

I did the tour in Sept 2005. We got five adult meal vouchers, one for everyone in our family, even our baby! We ate very, very well using the meal vouchers, which at the time, could be used in lots of places.

While we toured, the kiddies were in the SSR playroom, and had comp. sundaes at the end.

We just took the tour this month and purchased a few days later. We inquired at the Kiosk within MGM and were picked up within 20 minutes. We told our guide we only had about 45 min and we were out in about 65 minutes. What's great is that they'll take you anywhere within Disney after the tour......they also had car seats if you're bringing the little ones. As far as promotional gifts, we received a few extra fastpass tickets, but it seems this changes often. Oh, did I mention no pressure....... Enjoy!
