The DS Lite/DSi debate.....

My DDs are 12 and 9. The 12-year old has a DS Lite, and the 9-year old has a Gameboy Advance. The 9-year old is asking for a DS for Christmas. We discussed it with her, and she decided she wants the DS Lite because it can play GBA games, and we have a ton of them.

So we took advantage of the TRU deal a couple of weeks ago and snagged her a DSLite package for a great price.

Last night, she announces that she's decided she wants the DSi because a couple of her friends have it and she really likes it so much better.

DH wants to make a switch and get her what she wants.

I think we should hold tight to what we have.

I told her that I've heard that the DSi has a lot of problems, because it's so new and "fancy", and I reminded her about the GameBoy games that she wouldn't be able to play anymore if she had the DSi.

I think that when it comes right down to Christmas Day, she's going to be excited to have a DS, no matter what model.

I went with the DSLite. We also have Game Boy games and I didn't think we needed something with a camera.

My DD7 said she wanted to upgrade to a DSi. I told her she would not be able to use her old games and she was done with that idea. I think I'd stick with what you have. If she isn't excited after Christmas you could always exchange it, but the games add up fast.

I went with the DS Lite. It was a no brainer for us. My son is only 5 and he also had his sisters old GBA so we wanted him to be able to use those games. I agree with the previous poster. You could always exchange after Christmas if she isn't thrilled but I have a feeling she will be.
Another point to consider is your 12 yr old. My 12 yr old would be put out if her 5 year old brother got the DSi before she did as she still has a DS Lite.
However.. perhaps your 12 year old isn't as cranky as mine.
