The Dress Shop on Cherry Tree Lane

Hi, it’s been a while since I stopped by this thread. Everyone looks amazing in their purchases!

Yesterday I bought my third Dress Shop dress—the new Disney dogs one. The style works well with my shape (lumpy everywhere :) ). I debated about purchasing it because the tag says dry clean (as did the Belle dress that I bag and wash in cold water). Has anyone washed it themselves? I purposely avoid dry clean clothes, but this dress was adorable.

Hi Chirple 😊 Isn’t it comfortable? Not that I recommend this to anyone, but I have noticed over my many years that clothing with the same fabrics will say both dry clean and machine wash. I wash and dry everything I own and have only ruined one outfit. It was linen and I was young and didn’t know what linen was let alone how to wash it. I bought the dogs one and plan on washing it. I’ll report back here when I do as to the results though.

I've never clicked on this thread before and I didn't realize what I've been missing!

I've always loved the Cherry Tree Lane dresses so much; there's something about them that just calls out to me. But I have a body shape that is anathema to this style of dress. I'm only somewhat overweight but I carry ALL my extra weight in my stomach--I truly look slightly pregnant all the time. My hips, thighs, legs, and butt are extremely out of proportion to my stomach. If I were to buy a dress to fit my stomach, it would hang off me in these other areas. Plus, these dresses are just not made for large stomachs.

Does anyone else have this problem and have found a dress or a style of dress that works for you? I can't wear that nipped-in-the-waist, flared out at the hips style, but maybe there's another option I'm not aware of. I don't know of any of these dresses that aren't tight against the stomach area. I suppose I could buy a larger dress and have it taken in in the places it would need it, but it would still look bad with my large stomach. I usually find clothing styles that draw attention away from that area, not accentuate it.

Even if there is not a Cherry Tree Lane dress to suit me, I'm going to keep coming here to look at the pictures of all you lovely ladies in your beautiful dresses!

Hi 1GoldenSun! Nice to meet you 😊 I’m honestly not sure about body types and dresses. I feel like a blob in most things LOL! I just keep trying. I have about 11 or 12 now and normally wear a sweater like suse66. It’s a two fold thing. I am always cold so it keeps me comfortable and it tends to hide my lumps 😊. I know it seems strange to pay that much money to cover it up a bit, but... I love them so it’s my workaround 😊

hi 1Goldensun, I have the same issue, except that I am heavy as well, but carry most of my weight in my stomach. (Complete apple shape) Plus I am very short, so I can't buy dresses too large. I fit in most XLs. What I do is get the ones that have some give in them or the stretchy inserts on the back to give it a bit more room. I also put the waist band a little higher on my waist, even though it makes me look pregnant. (LOL) (In case anyone asks, I share this account with my sister, and the pics we have put up are mostly her because these dresses always fit her perfectly)

Anyway, I say go for it.

Have you tried an empire waist dress? They’ll cinch you right below the bust, but above the waist.

Hi, if you read my post above, you can see that I describe myself as lumpy. I lost a lot of weight and no amount of exercise will get rid of the loose skin I carry. I am apple-shaped so I carry it around my mid-section and back plus I have a DD cup.

With all of that said, I have the blue Belle dress, the Mickey & Minnie roses dress, and now the Disney Dogs dress. They are all different styles. You might find that the dogs dress would work for you; it is a soft stretchy fabric. I saw someone wearing it in MK on Monday, and she carried her weight in her backside; the dress looked great on her.

My husband bought the dogs dress as a birthday gift so I got it in the large and x-large. I am REALLY self-conscious about my lumpiness so I am keeping the XL, even though the L fit fine.

As I said upthread, I love how supportive this thread is. We all have different body shapes, and the dresses all fit us differently, but we all look fabulous. Personally, I think these dresses are in a more "classic" 40's or 50's dress shape with the smaller waists and the puffy skirts. I am also short, so anything bigger than an XL overwhelms me.

The inside out dress ran really big. Maybe next time I put on my tiki room dress I'll post the pic.

ShopDisney has 25% off right now. DISNEYPAL is code.
With everyone raving about the dog dress, I caved and ordered it. They didn’t have my size in stock so I’m 99.9% sure I’ll be returning it to my local Disney store. They have a cute dog rain hat that I ordered as well....the dress put me over the $75 free shipping threshold so that, in my mind, justified ordering a dress I know will not fit. I think that’s called Disney Math. It should be taught in school.....

Yay Disney Math! 😊 I ended up ordering a medium and honestly with the fabric, I could have probably went with a small. I’ll keep my fingers crossed 🤞 it works for you. Excited to see the pictures. I like the bow on this one too because it’s the same fabric as the dress so you don’t have to make it ‘perfect’ to look good.

Oh, I wish it was the small I ordered....they were out of stock in that size too. Went with XS, and there is nothing XS about me no matter how much it stretches. Disney math prevails over my common sense a lot of times 🤣
I really wish I’d bought it while I was down there, but saw the Ratatouille dress so forgot all about it. Plus, with it being black knit and having a very light colored dog that sheds like crazy (and is attached to my hip), I didn’t think it was a good idea.
At least a trip to the local Disney store will be in my near future, and that’s never a bad thing.

I understand. Still keeping fingers crossed. Hopefully it will surprise you. I once got a NBC hoodie in an XS that surprisingly fit. Disney sizing is insanely inconsistent.

If I wasn't in dress jail, I would so take advantage of that 25 % off and order myself another little darling! That being said, here's dress three of my latest splurge, the Toy Story dress. I love the style and fit of this dress. One more to arrive next week!
