The dreaded Red House at BWV going!

I often wondered what that building was as we walked past it after crossing the bridge from the Swan/Dolphin. I've never had that particular view and I'm glad.

we had a room that looked right square in to the roof of it and it was preferred points. When the bellman arrived with the bags we asked if it was really a preferred view. He said it was, but that he would check about changing it if we wanted. We said oh no, it is OK, somebody has to stay here and we will figure it our turn to get the bad view room. It was so far down the hall we joked things like "let's call the swan for room service" etc. I am kind of ticked if it is a standard view room.

It must have changed from a preferred view to a standard view due to the complaints, because I know when we stayed in the room during construction it was a preferred view. We were even mentioned to each other that they would have to change the classification because the view was so bad.

Now what is confusing about the picture linked previously, http://allearsnet.com/acc/swan25.jpg is the fact that this building is not what in most people's minds as the community hall building, the one that has all the dvc services(kids playroom, videos and stuff) is a bit further down by the quiet pool. This building is where they did all the DVC buisness transactions, where we actually did all the paperwork to buy our points.

I know, that may be even more confusing, sorry.

The rooms in this area are preferred view. Guests who book standard view were/are sometimes placed here. My assumption is that when this happens, standard view rooms ae either overbooked or there is something else going on with the supply of standard view rooms - perhaps maintenance issues. It is also possible that members get placed here if there are a lot of CRO guests, but that is just a thought. (CRO cash guests get "run of the house", which means they could end up anywhere).

FWIW, I don't see how DVC could just change these rooms to standard view points without causing all sorts of problems - think about it. The total number of points can't change - if they were to decrease the number of points required for this section of the resort, what increased? Can't believe Disney reduced their share, LOL. They could have done it when the sales offices moved out and they built new units, but they SOLD those points.

Anyway, I think those who paid standard view points for those rooms technically got an upgrade. After the building is gone, those rooms will have a nice view of the courtyard, canal and Swan Hotel - a legitimate preferred view, IMHO. YMMV.

We had room 4002 for 2 weeks last June. The room was the last room at the end of the hallway.

I booked as a standard view and when we checked in at 10 am the room was ready. It overlooked the red building and had a view of the dumpster area that was to the side of the building.

Nice view, but the dumpster was emptied ervery morning about 6am!
