The Downward Spiral.

Thank you, Mesa. Exactly. Like it or lump it. I like it so I lump it and go back to WDW and enjoy my time.

AmyB, I did find the the "only 19 posts" rather uppity, your opinion matters more because you have over 3,000? There is plenty to complain about with the changes, I just don't do it. Maybe my 19th post does cause as much clutter as complainers, but it's not my 2000th complaint post.

Ok, I'll give you that. I guess I just roll my eyes at the "complaining about the complaining" posts. So, sorry for that. It sneaked out. LOL

That's OK, I got thick skin.

So I haven't been on the boards in months, pretty much for the reasons the Op mentions. Since I needed a Disney fix big time, I thought I'd hop on. Of course this is one of the first threads I see. It just gets so old so quickly!!! Don't you get tired of being so negative and unpleasant? Guess I'm hopping off now and I'll try back again in another few months. Go ahead and flame me now. Tell me good riddance, etc.

Bingo.

The entitlement of the passionate few on here is staggering. Instead of making posts whining about this or that, or whining about someone else's whining, what happened to helping another out by strategy using what Disney has given us?

Some of the biggest critics are also the biggest fans,at least it is in my case.I think magic bands are great but the website and FP+ need to improve and I feel that eventually they will, hopefully. My bigger problem with Disney is the lack of new attractions, they can build multiple DVC buildings before ever greenlighting a new ride.If you've been on these boards day after day over the years you've heard probably 35 rumors for a new DHS attraction which never materializes. They're also at 16 years since a new park has opened, the longest span ever, this one I'm not holding my breath for as they themselves claim it unlikely we'll see a new park anytime soon. These are the reasons many posters have turned negative Disney spending huge amounts of money on a system that's got a few positives but plenty of negatives.Millions and billions of dollars going into this system and DVC but very little into the actual parks themselves.I feel Disney is thinking more about the first time visitors like the increase in South American tourists who don't know any better as it's all new to them and won't see a reason to complain about it until 2026 when they realize in that decade+ the only new rides that have gone up are Avatar,a Star Wars area and a 3-D movie at Epcot, all the while standby lines are up an average of 40%.

It's out there still.

What happened to the DIS? This used to be a community of people who enjoyed Disney and visiting the parks. Folks came to share experiences, ask for advice, share "magic" that others may not know they had access to, or even, as experienced, make plans to share a wishes cruise or unique way to experience WDW.
Now it has degraded into a constant complaining about how "I don't get to ride this 5 times any more! I'm more special because I paid for my vacation and I shouldn't have to wait", or "FP+ sucks because now people don't got to the fastpass machine so I can get in SB ahead of them", or "I was late for my fastpass and the castmember would not honor it, so I held up everybody else until they let me go, since I'm more important than the other guests."
The sense of entitlement among most of the posts is mind boggling. :confused3
The best way for people to get what they want is to get in their car (no waiting), put in a Disney music cd (for ambiance), go to an ATM (for putting your card in and getting paper out), and making as many laps around the local mall as you want.:drive:

I agree with you. I've just stopped reading those negative posts. If posters want to be angry and miseable, fine. I don't need to witness it.

Which was the original point. People helping others get the most out of what is offered. I knew nothing of a "Wishes Cruise" until someone else on the DIS was looking for someone to share the cost. We all enjoyed ourselves and went on our way. Just too hard to find now.

There is an effort to get one or more of the threads in my signature to "sticky" status. The mods are in ultimate control of that.

There are two assertions that are now made here on at least a daily basis:

1) The negative reactions on the DIS Boards to recent WDW changes are a poor indicator of guest satisfaction because most people only post on the internet when they are being negative anyway.

2) The DIS Boards have become much more negative recently.

I'm struggling to reconcile the dismissal of negativity in the first with acknowledgment of it in the second.

Meh, I've been here a long time and it just seems to depend what side of the argument you're on as to the feeling you get.

As a big fan of Universal Studios, I've seen a TON of negativity here. In actuality, to me, it has become a lot less negative.

"The sense of entitlement among most of the posts is mind boggling" (for some reason the OP quote isnt showing up as a quote!)

Wowza. That is really all I can say.

You bemoan the civility of the board by opening with an insult.

I "can't even" with that logic.

But Ill take the bait.

Im entilted to complain when by very expensive pre bought park hopper has been greatly devalued
Im entilted to tell others about my experience in hopes to "warn" them
Im entitled to to get frustrated when people claim i am just a ride monger who refuses to wait
Im entitled to say that as an offsiter i feel like a second class citizen
Im entitled to become annoyed after the I see the endless posts saying you havent been there, you cant complain yet (yes, thank you , I have)

I have only been on here for a week, Really started reading the boards after my November trip, to see if others had the same issues I had. I was scared to join because of the "militant Disney apologists" for lack of a better term. I know this term refers to a very small-but very vocal base. I actually think in general these boards are still helpful. But, you cant expect people who are seeing a downgraded experience for more money to stay silent I would be upset if people just blindly accepted anything negative-it would lead me to believe Disney was paying for this site!

I know I'm not alone in this thought, but I think all threads that are FP+ related discussion/venting/debate/complaining/praise/condemning/speculation/whining/etc. should be put in to a sub-forum of of the theme parks board. This way it (and all the vitriol likely to go with it) is contained in its own section and frees up the main theme parks board for all other parks-related topics.

In general, while I would never start a thread about it, I tend to agree with the OP. The negativity has reached ridiculous levels. Especially when you consider so much of it comes from people who have yet to experience FP+ first-hand.

I'll admit I have a tiny bit of apprehension about my upcoming trip...the 60-day FP+ mark is coming up in a few weeks. However, I'm going to reserve my final judgement FP+ until at least after my trip...and maybe not even then as what I will be experiencing is likely to be far from the final product.

I'm struggling to reconcile it with the DIS I've been visiting since 2002! I mean, not to scare the sensitive ladies and gents on the forum, but seriously? You missed the days of the political board. Raise your hands if you remember "the good ole' days" where the DIS included political discourse and, pool hopping, refillable mugs, value vs. deluxe, making a salad out of the toppings bar at Pecos Bill's, boys in the ladies' room, and OMG - circumcision battles!

The DIS has been (in the 12 years I've been here) a place to discuss Disney (amongst other things). That encompasses ALL of Disney, not just the pixie dust parts. Please, for the love of all things holy, stop talking about how the DIS "used to be." Like everything else, it really didn't used to be that way. People have always expressed varying opinions about Disney. I don't see this changing in the next 12 years (or any other amount of time). If the stuff on an internet message board is so negative you are honestly getting depressed about an upcoming vacation, don't read it. Use other methods to plan your trip. Disney has been ingenious in creating their "Disney Mom's Panel." Those ladies don't drink the kool-aid, they have an IV drip! After speaking with one of them, you will be so excited, you won't be able to stop yourself from packing!

While I understand the desire to cut down of the volume of FP+ threads, FP+ and FP before it are too integral to Theme Park Attractions and Strategies for that to ever happen. Mods have been peppered with requests like this for months and there has been no change.
