In our defense, it took us 84 years collectively to discover WDW.
Got a lot of catching up to do!
Our first trip was in December of 2006 and we fell in love. Crowds, cold and all. It was Epcot's Holiday decorations that did the trick. When the first thing you do when you enter a new place is stare wide-eyed,open-mouthed,for a good 10mns you know you've found something special.
The next trip was in July and we went "all out" since of course, it would be the last trip for a while and we wouldn't be coming back until I at least popped some kiddos of my own
One might argue that buying an Annual Pass and a DDE card is not exactly what someone who doesn't intend to come back would do.
Well, I love Halloween. And Halloween is France is about as popular as George W. Bush... just an example, guys...
Oh yeah I forgot to mention we're French. Please don't hold it against us, it's not our fault, especially not mine, and I'd gladly fix that problem if someone would just hand me a green card.
Anyway back to Halloween. My mom (aka DM or Grumpy) wanted to go back to New York "for a change" this fall. It just happened that my favorite band is opening a new venue for 10 days in Newark around that time, and the flights were under $500, so that was a done deal. NYC here we come
NYC is very expensive these days - $240 for a room with twin beds, plus tax - and the cost of living is enormous compared to Florida's. So it'd have to be a short trip, 5 nights.
I couldn't help but think how stupid it is to pay for a transatlantic flight just for 5 days. Yes New York is expensive... but we don't have to stay in NYC the whole time, do we??
Grumpy started to ask, where else would we .... NO NO WAY we are NOT going back to Disney we *JUST* came back, absolutely NOT!
That same night I called Disney Dining and got us an ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern on the last MNSSHP night.
You know, just in case.
By mid-August Grumpy was already homesick (and by homesick, I mean sick of being at home). She asked me to look at flights, maybe we could go back just for a week "somewhere". No luck, the flights were all over 1000 euros by then.
What about October, Grumpy ? We could go for a couple days after New York. You'd get a tan and all your friends would be so jealous. Just 2 days. or 3... You know, just for the Halloween party. At a value resort. Which we could get very cheap with my AP.
"AH NO!...." she exclaimed ... ugh, it didn't work.
"... I'm not staying at a Value! Can you get a discount for Wilderness Lodge ?"
Hook, line, and sinker.

Great start and I'm looking forward to more. Disney sure is great therapy isn't it!

- if that's not a proof that there's something wrong with the reservation system I don't know what is.
