The Double-and-a-half Trippie ** COMPLETED **

Marivaid,

Again thanks for the time you spend writing your report. I am sad it is almost over! Hey, wait a minute! You are getting ready to leave again aren't you! Have a great time. The weather here is gorgeous right now. However, it has been a little cool lately so pack a sweatshirt! You will have a great time on your trip! Some of my favorite trips have been when I can share the Disney experience with newbies. This may sound strange, but I wish I were going to be over in Orlando while you are, I would try to meet you for lunch or something. I have a feeling you are an absolute blast to hang out with! :goodvibes

Steph

Great update! The lights at EPCOT look amazing. I have to get there during the holidays sometime.

When do you come to Fort Lauderdale? It's been a tad cool here lately. Still always lovely to be in South Florida though!

Just giving you a little BUMP in hopes of an update!

*knock, knock* :badpc: Anyone home in there?

We had been lazy yesterday, but today was our last day in Disney and we wanted to be out of our room bright & early.

By 9am we were ready to go. We had an ADR at Kona but since we wanted to go to Animal Kingdom, and it's not very convenient from the Poly, I called and switched it to Boma.

Knowing this morning would probably be my last shot at taking pics of POFQ,I stopped in the lobby for a little bit while Grumpy checked out the gift shop.

Off we to grab a cab to Animal Kingdom Lodge, which we had yet to see all decorated for Christmas. The AKL lobby is amazing any time of the year, but at Christmas.. WOW ! I don't know how they make it work so well. I'd think a Christmas tree would look weird and out of place in an African-themed resort, but it didn't.

IMG_4955.jpg

They had a gingerbread house contests like at Music, but those were AKL themed. Nice!

IMG_4957.jpg

Before breakfast we went outside to check out the savanna but most of the animals were still sleeping. This birdie was the only one awake and apparently not much of a morning person !

IMG_4962.jpg

I love this area of AKL...

IMG_4960.jpg

One last pic of the lobby and we were on our way to stuff ourselves silly at Boma.

IMG_4964.jpg

MMMMMMMMMMMMM Boma's breakfast is AMAZING !!! I was surprised we could still eat this morning after what we'd eaten at CP the night before. But we sure managed :)

We were then ready to go see our buddies at Animal Kingdom.

There were a bunch of characters outside the gates and we watched them for a while. Of course we don't know who half the characters are, so we probably sounded like idiots.
"Look, that's ... some kind of bear from Jungle Book ! Check out the... bug thingy !!!!"

IMG_4971.jpg

Well, it IS a bug. I think. :confused3

We walked to the Safaris and grabbed some Fastpasses. It was already past 11 and I thought we were lucky just to get those FPs. They were for around 1pm.

Since we had a couple hours to kill we walked down to see if we could squeeze ourselves in Festival of the Lion King. They had a show at 11.30 which meant we had about 5mns to make it to the theater. I don't run, but I sure walk fast when needed. Grumpy followed as fast she could. We got to FOTL at 11.29 :)
"Would you PLEASE stop trying to KILL ME ????"

Hey, at least we got in. And eventually Grumpy was able to catch her breath again.
This show is amazing ! It makes me want to see Lion King again (and not fall asleep in front of it this time).

We then went to look at Camp Mickey & Minnie since we'd never been there before.

Grumpy spotted a smoking area and went all Nancy Spungen on me... she literally ran to it. I thought she was going to hug the smoking sign.

IMG_5014.jpg

I took this pic to PROOVE to her that she's an addict :scared1:
And yes those are glittery Rudolph hair clips in her hair
We're obsessed with Rudoph. See us Frenchies don't have red nose reindeers. Another thing we're deprived of. That and Wally World.
We discovered Rudolph a few years ago and now we can't live without him. I'm not kidding, there are 8 singing reindeers in our living room year-round. It's not uncommun for either of us to start screaming "Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer!" during an argument. He soothes our souls.

When Nancy was done, she & I went back to Africa for our safari.
It was a bit late so there weren't many animals around but we did get to see one amazing thing. Guess what ?

Not this....

IMG_5017.jpg

No, not this either...

IMG_5023.jpg

Oh, here it is. A baby elephant nursing his mother.
That's something you don't see everyday !!

IMG_5024.jpg

We like ostriches too, but I still believe those eggs are fake.

IMG_5030.jpg

We walked around for a while. We were going to Dinoland but saw there was no wait for It's tough to be a bug so we went in. We're suckers for 3D. If only they could make a Rudolph 3D movie !!!!

Grumpy then wanted to go back for a swim. I wanted to stay at AK, but she loves swimming outside, and it would be 6 or 7 months before she'd be able to do that at home. So I relented. Anyway, we had to clean up and get ready for our California Grill reservation that night. Our first Signature restaurant ! I was excited and worried at the same time. Would it be stuffy ?? Would the food taste like diaper ? Or even worse, a stuffy diaper ??

Coming up : Greetings from the 15th floor!

I love the fire pit at AKL too! I had to laugh at the smoking picture-that would be DH in our group! :lmao: Can't wait to hear what you thought of California Grill! :cool1:

We went back to our room at Port Orleans. The gators were out !

IMG_5032.jpg

After some pool & chill time we got ready for our ADR at California Grill. I had studied the dress code & made sure we were both dressed appropriately. Grumpy insisted on wearing some high heeled shoes, but put her flip flops in my bag ... just in case :)

By the time we made it to the bus stop at POFQ she had already retrieved them. Flip flops aren't allowed (technically) at Signature restaurants so once we got to the Contemporary she hid behind a wall and put her heels back on.

Meanwhile I was busy giving people directions to Chef Mickey's. And kinda wishing we were going there instead...

We checked in on one floor, I think the 4th, then took a special elevator to the 15th floor. The place looked fancy but not stuffy. We were shown to a table for two next to the window. Our server Topher came over and introduced himself.

"Sorry about the view, ladies."

O-M-G !!!!!
If I looked to my left I was seeing the Grand Floridian. If I looked to my leftI was overlooking THIS :

IMG_5035.jpg

I stopped worrying about the food immediately - the view alone was worth it.

The inside of Cali Grill is not as interesting as the outside, but it's not bad either !

IMG_5040.jpg

We ordered. I got the California rolls and Grumpy got their lobster appetizer. According to her it was as good as it looked :

IMG_5056.jpg

Grumpy ordered the filet but I had no idea what to get. There was chicken but I wanted something different. I almost ordered the filet as well but when I asked for it "dead, dead, burned dead" our server made a face and said it would ruin the meat. Grumpy agreed. I don't know why but I decided to get the scallops instead.

The filet was thick and Grumpy loved it. I took one bite of a scallop and that was it. Topher offered to bring me something else, but I figured I wouldn't like it anyway and the mushrooms that came with the scallops were good.

Besides I couldn't have cared less about what I was eating. I was too busy looking at these :

IMG_5060.jpg

IMG_5066.jpg

Oh yeah, and that thingy too

IMG_5069.jpg

I forced Grumpy to order dessert because I didn't want to be the only one eating sweets :) They were OUT OF THIS WORLD. Next time we go to Cali Grill I'm sticking to sushi and dessert.

Because our ADR had been early, we were done eating at least 2 hours before Wishes was scheduled to start. What to do ?? Topher said we were welcome to stay if we wanted to, or we could come back later and watch from the outside area.

We chose to go shop at the downstairs boutiques and come back later. Grumpy got herself a few shirts and I probably bought a Stitch or two.

Soon we were back at Cali Grill, outside this time. My mom had thought of bringing her hoodie but it hadn't crossed my mind. It was FREEZING out there but I refused to leave. So I'll be cold. Big deal.

It was worth it !

IMG_5093.jpg

The music was piped in and we really enjoyed watching Wishes from up there. It's very different from when you watch it in the parks and you tend to pay more attention to what's going on up there instead of watching the castle. Sorry my pics aren't very good but you get the idea...

It was the perfect way to end our trip.

EPILOGUE

----------------------------------------------------------

It had been a very different Disney vacation for us. We had barely done any attractions, but we had visited half a dozen resorts, dined at new places, and saw new shows. It occured to me a few days later that we had not even been on Soarin' or Splash Mountain, our two favorite attractions :scared1:

And we couldn't wait to do it again, next year at Christmas.....

......

but sometimes life gets in the way.

After our "ruined" trip with Jessi & Alex, we felt we needed a redo. We were going to go back for Christmas. I really hate my current main job as a school secretary, the pay stinks, and I intended to quit at the end of the school year, in July.
I would leave October 15th, spend 2 months at the beach, then meet Grumpy in WDW. We were going to stay at Coronado Springs, and planned to see the Candlelight Processional again. And go back to Cali Grill.

We even got free flights with our American AAdvantage miles. It was perfect. I booked the flights on Wednesday May 14th.

On Thursday, I was at work #2 (the gas station) when I got called up to the Big Boss's office. I'm not the best cashier in the world, come to think of it I'm probably one of the worsts. And to top it off a few days earlier, I had left in a hurry and had turned off the computer by mistake. As a result NONE of the pumps had worked for the entire weekend.
So I was pretty sure I was sacked.

Instead I got offered a new job, full time with a big raise (more than I'm currently making with TWO jobs), taking care of their new internet ordering system. I would have my own office and 3 people working for me to fill orders and such. I could pick my own hours as long as the work was done. No more working Sundays. No one to answer to daily. Full health benefits, five weeks paid vacation a year. Starting September 1st.

I'm almost thirty years old. There was no way I could pass this up.

Unfortunately there was also no way they would wait for me to come back in January OR give me ten days off at Christmas.

What they could manage, was six days in August. It might be the last time for at least a year that Grumpy & I will be able to go on vacation together (she still has to work for one year before she retires, and I won't get time off during school holidays). So we didn't look at the costs and booked the Poly even though I couldn't get an AP rate for the whole stay. The flights alone for the two of us were over $3000... so a few hundred bucks won't make that big of a difference.

It'll be the shortest trip we've ever taken, at Disney or elsewhere. Only five days. And we'll enjoy every minute of it !!!

Wishes is definitely amazing from Cali Grill! I enjoy it more from there than I do in the park. For a moment I got excited that you were going back for Christmas-cause we will be there for Christmas too. Then I saw about your new job and how you won't be doing it after all-such a bummer! At least you are getting to squeeze in another trip before the new job! CONGRATS!!!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes I hope to see another trip report! ::yes::

Congrats on the new job!
When in August are you going?

Marina,

Congratulations on the new job!! :yay: :yay: :yay: It sounds great! Although you won't be planning a Christmas trip, just think .... you'll be going sooner AND staying at the Poly! Looking forward to you starting on a new pre-TR soon :) and make sure to update us on how your new job is going. Good luck with that ~~ I hope you enjoy it!

Is it bad that I'm secretly hoping the job WON'T work out ?? I haven't even canceled the other flight yet. So maybe, just maybe, we'll see each other at Christmas in WDW :)

Congrats on the new job!

Thank you ! We'll get there July 31st and leave on the morning of August 6th. Very very short trip.

No time for a pre-TR ! I didn't plan this trip much anyway, just a few ADRs here and there. Grumpy & I count days every night though :lmao:

Marina, Where are you?????????:( :(

ALWAYS at work, it seems ! Can't wait 'til I'm rid of one of them and get some "life" back. LET THE PEOPLE DIS !!!!!

I am super sad that there's no more TR, or another PTR! Let me email your three bosses and tell them you need to dis!

I loved your trip report! Its funny that you call your DM grumpy :lmao:.
