So, it's been going up. Yay! But, have they said if they expect it to continue? I really want to try and buy our tickets for our next trip while they're on sale, but I'm not sure if I should wait a bit and see if the dollar keeps rising, or if I should just buy them now.

There are the $64,000 question! If only we knew ..

I've been putting off paying the rest of our trip off for this exact reason. It would be really nice to save a few extra bucks. It's tacking on an extra $1000ish to our trip which is a huge bummer

One currency analyst stated last year that the Canadian dollar typically peaks around late April each year due to oil demand...

Not sure what your trip plans are... perhaps lock-in or lock-in 50% in late April.

I wonder at times if the CDN currency surge is due to POTUS decisions & campaigns.

Oh it definitely it to an extent.

We're staying off site, and our rental home is owned by a fellow Canadian so, that end isn't such a big deal. For us it's just the tickets. And we likely aren't even going till 2018, as much as I would love to go this summer, things are just still too up in the air with our daughter.

Well I doubt the $$ is going to improve that much that you would be better off buying at regular price. I'm hoping that they bring this promo back again next year. Although you never know...there might be a wall by then and you won't be able to use your tickets in 2018. Hmm..what to do what to do? :confused3 lol

My husband brought this up a bit (more just the unrest in the US), when we were talking about possibly going down this year. Just basically saying that there's so much stuff going on down there right now, he's not sure he would even feel comfortable driving down.

I am waiting as well to see what the CDN$ is doing. Want to buy 4 four day tickets soon. Have been buying a little US$ every payday so that might soften the shock.

Are you taking advantage of the 25% off tickets for Canadians ? They must be purchased by end of February though. I've been playing the waiting game as well, but will have the buy our tickets soon. We have a Room Only reservation (May, 2017) so only need to pay off the balance at check-in...so hoping for some good news for our exchange rate later this Spring.

I wouldn't plan on the dollar getting much better throughout the course of 2017.

The US is expected to raise interest rates several times this year, and Canada isn't.

Add NAFTA concerns on top of that, and I'd be hesitant to hold out.

Just sat in a ForEx seminar with an "expert". He echoed Pallor's comments. He's expecting the US dollar to rise over the course of this year. I just cashed in a bunch of my US money...I wish I could've waited till later in the year but I couldn't.

I mentioned this on another post. For peace of mind pay now. Then just get on with planning your trip. The difference between now and the end of Feb will only be a few cents either way. That equals at the most $50 but probably in around $10-$15. Why stress over that. And if ours goes down then you will be kicking yourself.

I bit the bullet and paid the balance for my vacation today. The CAD seems to be favourable and frankly I was driving myself crazy reading opinion pieces and graphs... Now to concentrate on the fun stuff!

Here is a question: we stay on site, and have a package booked Dec 31 to Jan 9th.

If we buy the Canadian passes at the 25% off discount, we save about $75/pass for an adult 10 day pass. which is great when I have to buy for me and my two over 10 year olds. :)

however. this means we would have to switch to a room only booking which requires a higher deposit right? and it would also mean that we would not qualify for the Jan discount assuming it returns in 2018 (will do 2 reservations) corretct? because we would have our passes so we are not buying a package...

but then will we get a discount that will save us at least $225 for the room? hmmm not sure what to do! do I buy the passes now or wait or ?

Others have mentioned being able to purchase Canadian discounted tickets through Disney as part of a package. I'm not certain what was involved with the Jan discount you mention so I can't answer to that.

A room only booking has different rules than a package. Your deposit is the equivalent of the first nights room rate. The balance of your hotel stay is not required until to check in at the resort. You are able to cancel your booking with full refund up to 5 days before your stay.

I recently booked a room only reservation. Changed it to another when the discounts on Room only reservations came out and then I added park tickets to MDE. Because I arranged the room and tickets in separate transactions it is not considered a package subject to the package rules.

If you purchase your tickets now and a great package deal comes out later your can always save your tickets for another trip, they aren't going anywhere. You don't mention where you are planning on staying so I can't comment as to whether a room only discount would be of benefit.

Edit to add: Your out of pocket expenses now would be the cost of the park tickets. When you make the room reservation you are out of pocket one nights stay. Balance due at check in. If you know you're going to go I would take advantage of the Canadian tickets now. It's a good deal.

Hey fellow Ottawa-nian!
We are staying at a moderate. Currently booked at pofq so that if we don't qualify for a discount we are staying where we want
IF we do qualify we change to the moderate that has discount pricing available. even if it means doing to reservations. ie dec 31 for 2 nights then jan 2 for 7 nights.

You can book a ticketless package (room and dining plan). Has to be booked by phone, it's not available online.

I don't know about driving down, but I just flew back from MCO on Wed and everything was business as usual at the airport. If anything, security was less visible than usual (no dogs). I flew in 2 weeks ago in the evening and again nothing of concern. I wasn't at WDW but visiting parents outside Orlando & on a cruise. Most Floridians I spoke with were happy, content & relaxed with no worries. Of course, outside Orlando is more old Florida (both demographics & attitude) so there's that. I've heard the same predictions re the dollar and barring a one-off massive event in the US that might drop their currency for a few days, looks like our dollar will remain low & sliding lower. I'm not planning a WDW vacation this year (and I've visited for Food & Wine annually for many yrs) because of the Cdn dollar & my perception that inflated prices at WDW haven't kept pace with value received. I'll likely wait for another year or so until more new attractions are actually up & running.

That's my next concern - let's face it, the possibility of an event is real. And if it were one to the extent that we weren't comfortable traveling in the US, is it worth tying up all that money? I mean, on one hand it's a big savings (about $450 for us) and I don't mind spending now for next year. But if it might be 2-3+ years before we get back...

Completely understand this. Even personal situations can change in 2 yrs or so. Instead of WDW, I'm looking at a budget bus tour of Scandinavia/Russia or something similar. I'm relatively young & can handle a transatlantic flight in coach & the early, early wake up calls on a bus tour. Also some destinations are OK now but may be of more concern in the future (think Egypt . . . wish I had gone yrs ago). Time to cross off some bucket list trips now while I can. WDW will always be there. Some bus tours are in the same $ ballpark as what used to be a budget WDW vacation. I'll miss WDW this year (I love the planning) but can always squirrel away & do some prelim planning for another year.
