There is almost always a clean version of songs. But is music going to the point where those lyrics are appropriate ?

I hope not, but I think we are getting there. I worked with little kids at church last year and at least half of them knew Katy Perry songs and the like with no censor. I think it might be the misinformed belief that kids just dance and don't even listen to the lyrics because they are too
simpleminded. That belief just makes me want to throttle someone.
Correct me if I'm wrong, because my perspective is limited, but the impression I get from many artists and some of the younger generation (of which I am a part of) is that music should not be censored at all because this is what the artist intended to say, and any attempt is along the lines of the Thought Police. They also say if you don't want your kids listening to it, don't listen. However, it is very difficult to not listen when this music is played EVERYWHERE, including places like Nickelodeon. It is the same issue with adult-themed websites. The argument for having them legalized is free speech, which is legit. But it goes over that line when a vast majority of websites have pop-ups or viruses that pretty much force you to see this stuff anywhere you go. This is the reason about 90% of young kids have seen those things without meaning to, even with virus protection.
I agree 110% with what Pete said in that it is
very difficult to protect your kids from the world these days, save for not letting them have access to any electronic media. However, based on what I have heard from some parents, there are better options parents have that can help. Am I wrong?
