The Disneyland Hotel Superthread

So the poop water isn’t normal? Great. My face is still all rashed up.…..

I don’t care how long my trip was, if I really thought the water was “poop water” there’s no way in heck i would have stayed in that room or washed my face with it.

We have stayed here too many times to count and I have never experienced that but if i had or do they would be told about it so they could fix it and move me somewhere else.

Nope, I haven’t experienced the smell before, crazy low water pressure isn’t normal for me either, but kinda crappy low water pressure is.
We will always remember the poop water for eternity. Lol.
The GCH is nicer and better, but in my experience their cheapest room is ~$950 after tax (unless on promo), and they *certainly* aren’t worth that much.
I think the most we ever paid was $600. So, it’s been a while.
Just checked the Westin again, and not this coming weekend, but next weekend a Saturday to Sunday night is $307 (!!!!) *after* tax! That’s crazy cheap! It must kill them that with their nice new $250 million property they can’t fill rooms all the time unless rates drop as low as $260 before tax, lol
I’m really leaning toward the Westin for our next off property stay. Do people cut through the GCH coming from there to DCA?

It smelled like sewer. Did I think there was actual poop in it? Of course not. I figured we were in a really old hotel with plumbing issues and likely all the rooms had the same smell. Oh well.

Lucky you.

You “can’t” without being a resort guest. It’s behind a gate, if you hover around and wait for a guest to be leaving and slide in before the gate closes, it’s physically possible, but if security sees you doing this they’ll yell at you and turn you around.

You can make your way through the GCH on your way OUT though. It probably only saves three or four minutes of walking though.

What a horrible experience! We are booked in December and I am quite concerned. We have a standard view room, no choice of changing it. Have other people had these room issues recently? (Freaking out here.)

Honestly, I had read this thread quite a bit before booking our stay at the DLH and never saw any issues like this talked about. I think we just got very unlucky. And now you know the poop water is not in all the rooms, so you can ask to be moved if necessary.

Just returned from a trip where I split my stay between DLH (duo studio, so strictly speaking it's VDH) and the Westin.

I specifically chose VDH (and the smaller duo studio) because I have this thing about new shiny hotel rooms and bathrooms and I decided I preferred the look of the VDH bathrooms over the regular DLH bathrooms. The room was very new, very modern, although since it was a duo studio the bed wasn't that great (pull down sofa bed) and the room was so small they didn't even bother putting in a proper table (I hated this, and this will be the dealbreaker for me against staying in a duo studio again). But besides the lack of table it was actually quite a comfortable room to be in, and I imagine the larger rooms in VDH/Discover Tower would likely be very comfortable.

It was lovely staying on site at DL - so easy to wander between DLH and the parks. And they also had some fun activities like trick or treating across the Disneyland hotels on one of the days of my stay! All the CMs at DLH were fantastic too.

So overall I did have a pretty good stay at the DLH despite being in a tiny duo studio (which I knew about when booking). Also means I can check off the DLH from my list of places I want to stay at.

However, I loved the Westin, and on future trips I'll probably just stay at the Westin. It's so much cheaper than DLH, plus I can get Marriott Bonvoy points, plus the room is so well designed and comfortable and modern! Even the lighting panels were super modern!

Okay so... in the past Ive stayed, GCH and DLH, but DLH more often, we stayed Hyatt once. Everytime we would go I would get a rash on my chest, neck area. It happened every time I called it my Disneyland rash. My mom went with us once and also got a rash but on her arms and chest. So I googled rash Disneyland and so many things popped up. I was like wooaahh this is weird. I thought it was the water but google said otherwise, I still think water though. My last 2 trips within the last 6 months I didnt get the rash.

I’m sure that new tower is fantastic, but no way am I spending even MORE money for one of those “economy space saver” style rooms. I’m just against that on principle. I don’t need a huge 700 sq ft room like you might find in Vegas, but I think DLH/GCH standard rooms are a pretty appropriate size for a normal hotel room, I don’t want to fuel the trend for ever smaller rooms, regardless of whatever nifty floor plan tricks they do. (Unless it’s at a “significant” [good] discount compared to the other rooms.)

This was my first time getting a rash at Disneyland. We have visited countless times staying mostly at GCH and CCI, but also Home2 Suites. This was my first time getting a rash. The water burned my skin when it touched my face.

So funny that you mention the Vegas style rooms because we checked into the DLH after a week at the Venetian (Palazzo tower). What a stark difference walking through that door.

When I booked DLH I had the option to do the full size studio in the new tower for the same price as the regular room. I’m kicking myself for not doing it.

Just back from our first time at the Disneyland hotel. Glad we tried it, but we won’t go back. The accommodations were so underwhelming I just can’t believe we spent over $750 a night for this room.

The pros:
-Adventure Tower location was great. The back entrance was so convenient.
-Every cast member we dealt with was outstanding. They really were exceptional.
-The little extras in the room made it less gross/dreary. The headboard, etc. was very nice.
-Staying at the original hotel is now something I can check off my to-do list.
- I think we were pixie dusted with our room view because we had a view of the pool and not an air conditioning unit or a parking lot. That was very nice.
- The beds were comfy.

The cons:
- The room smelled like must and mildew from the first moment we stepped in until the moment we left. It got worse as our stay went on.
- The carpet was filthy/sticky and made our socks black.
- Barely a trickle of water pressure in the sinks, hardly enough to brush our teeth. Water pressure in the shower was also horrible. We walked around with low-flow hair for 3 days since we couldn’t rinse thoroughly.
- Speaking of the water, it smelled so disgusting I don’t even know how to fully describe it. It wasn’t sulphur, I can recognize that smell. It was more like raw sewage smell every time we turned on the sink faucets. The right sink was way worse than the left but both stank. My family called it “poop water” the whole time. I ended up washing my face with bottled water by the last 48 hours. I had developed a rash all over from the water. My face burned and itched from it.
- The furniture was all banged up and in disrepair. The drawers to the dresser stayed open the whole time because they were so warped they couldn’t close fully. The rest of the furniture had dings all over it.
- There was a thick layer of dust on everything. I shined the flashlight so I could read something and was so grossed out when I saw the dust.
- The shower: a long curly hair stuck to the wall that did not belong to me and a blood stain on the shower curtain. Just disgusting.
- Broken coffee maker. We brought our own Keurig pods and were hoping to have a nice coffee each morning. Our machine was broken and spilled water everywhere. Yes, we could have requested a new one but we just didn’t have the energy to deal with it and just wanted to get to the parks.
- The pool needs a facelift and the hot tub was out or order when we went down to soak our tired feet.

And, yes, we could have requested a new room but with only having 3 days at DLR we didn’t want to waste any time on changing rooms and waiting around. Plus we didn’t know if the other rooms would be any better.

All in all, a trip to Disney is way better than sitting at home on the couch. I get that and I’m very grateful we get to go each year. Just passing along my observations.
Well I have stayed at the DLH five times in the last seven years. I have never, I mean NEVER experienced anything quite like you did! Yes, the hotel is older but it’s always been well maintained, comfortable, very clean, and pleasant … just nothing like you experienced. I am sorry you experienced that and I do wish you would have called the front desk about any of the number of problems in your room because clearly something was very wrong with that room!

I wanted to, but I didn’t want to lose any precious park hours dealing with the situation. So we pretended we were camping and just dealt with it.

When you travel from out of state just once a year to Disney, every hour counts. As it is, we didn’t have a chance to ride everything we wanted between the lines and the amount of rides down during the day, even with LL.

EDIT: I just wanted to edit this to add that the age of the property is not something that would ever bother me. We have stayed in older properties around the world, including some historic buildings in Europe over a century old. Age of the property should not have anything to do with proper maintenance, especially at Disney where you are paying over $900 a night after fees and taxes.

I'm so sorry you had that experience! Not at all what you expect when going to DLH. I would call and talk to a CM about it even though you're home. We had a bad suite at DLH once and they comped us a night. It took the sting out of the bad experience a little bit.

I guess I could do that. Did you just call the main number?

I was in the hotel

Yes, I'd call the main number and tell them you want to give feedback for a recent stay. Maybe speak to a manager.
I wish I had an email for the GM. I’m extremely non-confrontation over the phone or in person. I’d prefer to put it all in writing.

You could totally do that. I've emailed the resort about things in the past and they always reply even if it takes a few weeks. Maybe you could chat with a CM on the website just to ask the best way to contact someone about a hotel issue.

I thought Disney Rash (aka exercise induced vasculitis) was on the legs. I've never heard of it on the chest, neck or face.

Possibly, it's been about 7 years since I looked it up. But I do remember concluding that I thought it was the water. Not that it was dirty, just something there that my skin didnt agree with. We have showered in soft water for 20 years in our normal everyday life.
