I am trying to verify my budget is going to work. We are on the dining plan but I need to figure out the 18% tip to have cash on hand.

My question is are the menu prices higher during the week of Christmas? And if so, what percentage should I add to the listed prices shown to get an accurate tip amount?

Thanks,

Someone posted that they can tip on the rewards card, EVEN if they are on the dining plan. I can't imagine how this would work, I mean how can they charge only a tip, without any other purchases? I would assume you would have to buy SOMETHING with the Rewards Card and then just add in a fat tip. But, with the dining plan... there is already too much food, so what the heck would I purchase from a restaurant, just so I could use my card to tip on? I suppose I will have to bring cash, afterall.:headache:

yes, you can leave a gratuity on your disney rewards card... you just have to tell the server... what you might want to do to cut down on "paperwork" at every meal, however, is to charge your tips to your room, and stop by the front desk and settle your room charge w/your rewards card once every three or four days...

Buffet and ACYE* meals are about $5 more during holiday periods than their normally-posted prices.

Hello All,

Quick questions (which may possibly make me sound more crazy than usual)

Does anyone / is it the done thing to tip the check in staff. I personally always panic that im not tipping people i should be tipping, coming from the UK where tipping doesnt really exist, i wouldn't want to offend anyone be either tipping them when i shouldn't be or not tipping when i should be.

Help :confused3

No, at Disney (most places, really) do not tip the check-in staff. Bellhops and valets, yes, but not the people behind the counter. It's not a tipped position and they're not allowed to accept it, anyway.

Thats brilliant thank you so much, As i know how hard everyone works and i would hate to think that i may have missed someone out.

Thanks again

Okay, I've scrolled back 3 pages in the Disney Restaurants section and have not found anything on this (even though I'm sure it's probably come up before)

What is the gratuity policy for Pepper Market? Do you leave a tip at the table? Or is the gratuity added to the bill when you pay at the end? And what happens if you want to take the food to go?

Thanks in advance.

Helen

I was leafing through an old Official Guide today from 2007. I noticed something that struck me as odd. It said that the Pepper Market at Coronado Springs added an automatically gratuity on to each diner's bill even though it is a self-service restaurant. I have never eaten there or even been there so maybe there is a logical explanation. However, it does seem odd and unfair to me. Can anyone explain this to me? I would be really peeved if that was the hotel we were staying at.

Yes, when I stayed there they charged a gratuity. It was the craziest thing. People rave about the Pepper Market but the gratuity and weird set up really turned me off.

the 10% gratuity is to pay for your server to seat you and get you your drinks. Other than that it's self service to get your food at the different food stations. The gratuity is also for them to clean your table.
If you get your food to go then you can ask them to waive the gratuity.

We were just there in August and I don't believe that they charged us any gratuity on the DDP. I have never minded paying the gratuity before because they seat you and get your drinks, clear your dishes, etc. However, this last time we were barely seated and we had to get our own drinks, we never saw anyone the rest of the time we were there. Then when we left they would have just charged us the gratuity for nothing. I was very disappointed this time. I have always liked it in the past. It was the worst service that we had on the DDP.

I wasn't aware that they had servers. I just assumed it was like the other resort food courts.

Even if they do have servers to seat you and get your drinks, why would the gratuity be automatic? This isn't the case at most TS restaurants, is it?

Woah...some crazy merging just happened! I feel like I've entered the Twilight Zone.

I have a ? .. We are a family of 6 INCLUDING an infant... we got the DDP I was wondering if the tip is going to be automatically included EVEN tho on our disney dining plan we only paid for 5 and the infant WILL NOT BE EATING... so it doesnt make sense that they will put it in automatically.. I still don't really understand the whole tipping thing.. but I guess I will figure it out when I get there..

I wish I had better news for you. The rules are strict, and your infant will count towards your party size. I've even heard that it counts if you hold your baby on your lap.

yah that is what I figured.. we thought about leaving the baby at home with grandma but that wouldnt be fair and I would have withdrawl. So we figured we would tip the 18% anyway with or without the ddp so I guess its no biggie.. lol if we have to pay on the tip of 6 or more he should at least get some free food sheesh LOL

Well, the good news is that since it's a % tip you don't actually pay anything for the infant unless you order food for him. Also, if you go to an AYCE or buffet he'll get to eat for free.
