Background: My DF to be, Jennifer, and I have been together for 5 years. We’ve done the Sand and Seas together and have stayed at DW on two other occasions. This year we plan to spend some time at DW around July 4th. Jennifer is really excited about the trip and has us booked at Pop Century (I’m usually very budget conscious) for accommodations for the trip and has us eating dinner at the Flying Fish on the Boardwalk for night 2 (“Proposal-Day”). Granted, the Flying Fish wouldn’t be my first choice for P-Day, but I would like to pop the question on July 5th for sentimental reasons and she’s already booked the reservation and I don’t want to raise her suspicions by changing the venue to the V&A, California Grille or something like that.

So here’s the plan:

We’ll get back to the room after a day at Animal Kingdom and MGM to shower before dinner. Unfortunately, Disney will break it to us that there is a leak in the room above us and that emergency repair work will need to be done. I’ll complain and they will tell us that we should pack up our stuff and they will move (and upgrade) us while we are at dinner.

With that we’ll head to dinner at the Flying Fish. Gary at the Fish will have rec’d a dozen long stem roses with little ribbons attached to each of them during the day. I will casually (hopefully) pass him the ring at some point and he will attach the ring via the ribbon to one of the roses. After we order dessert the waiter will come around and hand each of the ladies at the tables around us one rose (“with Mr. H’s compliments”). When he gets to our table with the last rose with the diamond (again hopefully) he will hand it to ME, I will take one knee and pop the question!

We’ll finish dinner and take a stroll around the lake to the Beach Club where our bags have been moved and champagne, rose petals and chocolates are waiting.

*note – Disney is not upgrading me for free, so please don’t get that idea.

How does this sound? Does anyone have any suggestions to improve upon the plan? Or have I missed an important detail? Advise welcome.

awww how romantic!! i think that's a great idea! i hope everything works out like you plan! it sounds like a good plan! when my DF proposed to me he freaked out because that day it didn't go as planned and he ended up having to wait for 2 days. but it all still turned out great(with the exception of the Photo Pass mishap i had, but that's a whole other story in itself)!

Please let us know how you got on and if you have any piccies we would love to see them. It sounded so romantic, she must have said yes :teeth:

Hello All!

Sorry for the delay getting back to the forums, but I neglected to mention that our vacation lasted thru July 17th and I had no access to the internet during the trip. :)

I’ll make one comment up front: At the suggestion of my jeweler to avoid taxes and to make concealing the ring easier, I had the ring shipped to Pop Century to arrive July 3rd… well UPS lost the ring! Long story short, with the help of the Disney staff, who were absolutely excellent, we managed to get the ring ONE HOUR before dinner on P-Day. Needless to say, it was two days of total stress! :confused3

Back to the story:

We got to the Boardwalk about 10 minutes prior to our reservation, so I asked my DF if she would like to have a drink at the ESPN Zone before dinner. She obliged and I told her I would run in and let the Flying Fish people know we might be a few minutes late for our reservation (and slipped the ring to Ron the manager). :stir:

So we had our drink and headed over The Fish and had an excellent dinner. I highly recommend the food at The Fish. As planned, after we ordered dessert, Ron began to distribute the roses. At this point my heart is beating out of my chest! Anyway, my DF wondered to me why she wasn’t getting a rose as Ron passed our table three times. I told her jokingly that he must not like the look of her. When Ron got to the last rose he handed it to me and I dropped to my knee and popped the question. By now the entire restaurant is focused on us… even the guys from the kitchen! Jennifer was so shocked and surprised at this point she said nothing for a few seconds until somebody asked allowed whether she said yes or no. This brought her back to life and she exclaimed yes and the restaurant went NUTS with people applauding and cheering us. It was great and exactly what I had hoped for. A little girl came up to us afterwards and presented Jennifer with the rose Ron had given her and her mom and wished us congratulations (as did everyone else eventually), and a woman came up with her camera and a pen and paper and offered to take our photos and mail them to us (but I had a camera). :woohoo:

So we then went off for our romantic stroll and Jennifer needed to use the bathroom so I said lets use the lobby bathroom at the Beach Club. Once inside I dropped the second surprise that we were staying at the hotel and then Disney dropped the surprise that we’d been upgraded to one of the large suites!! What a room!! It was better than I could’ve imagined! Our stuff was already at the hotel and the champagne, chocolates, cheese were waiting! (great job Disney Florist)

The day we left the Beach Club I stopped by the Flying Fish to thank Gary the manager who coordinated everything (and who was off on P-Day) and presented him with a bottle of wine as a thank you.

Many thanks to he Disney people who were all excellent and my new friends on this board for your warm wishes!! :grouphug:

PS – RIDE EVEREST!!! BEST RIDE AT WDW!!!! pirate:

WOW what a story...all your hard work paid off....best of luck and congrats

Oh...WOW! I am so jealous! Amazing! You must post pictures as soon as possible! I can't wait to see them! When I was younger I always dreamed of getting engaged at Disney! I didn't, so I had to have the wedding...haha! Turned out great either way, but what a surprise for your new fiance! I'd love to hear a report about the rest of your trip too! Congrats! Congrats! Disney wedding going to be planned? :goodvibes

Congrats! Wishing you both all the happiness that one lifetime can hold (and then some). :goodvibes

Congratulations!

What a wonderful vacation. The beginning sounds like a bit of an ordeal on your end...sounds like you kept your cool though as she did not become suspicious.

Let the planning begin! :dance3:

That sounds PERFECT!! Try not to be too nervous that day! I picked up on DH's nervous energy, but had no clue why he was jittery. :) I'm sure it will be wonderful!!! We want to hear all about it!!

aww really? see my DF was really good about covering up about him being nervous. i don't know how he did it, usually i know when something's up!

awwwww that's so awesome!!! congrats!! so romantic! although when i read that they lost the ring i did a complete "OMG!" lol.

i'm not QUITE sure how my DF got the ring there. i believe he put it on his carry-on on the ride down there. and when we got to the resort(we were staying at FW cabins) he put it in the safe when we left the room, and when we were in the room(when i would be avaliable to go in the safe) he put it waaaaay up on top of the closet. he's even got it on tape of how he hid the ring from me!! lol

i'm glad everything went well for you tho!! how exciting!

That's fantastic, if you can we would love to see some piccies
Please keep us updated with the wedding plans
