ok i just watch the Universal commerical, they always mention about something about fairy dust or princesses. Ok are they that low to mention that? i am always a disney girl at heart. i have been to universal in california.
I would think they would have more class than that......

Also why do they all mention disney just being about fairy dust and princesses it is alot more than that. I guess only true disney fans know it. :thumbsup2

Well it's just like politics when you are down you try to bring the comp.down as well.

Disney was the best in class again (as most times) on a recent report and they had to go after them.

I enjoy the magic of disney the most but do go to the other parks as well.(have season passes last 4 years at Six Flags)

I just think this kind of thing is a last desperate attempt to move ahead and it rarely ever works .So why to come to your place not why not to go to the other is how I want to see it.

And the little kid at the concert with no supervision around is just what I want my DD to see ( NOT ).

I saw that commercial for the first time the other night. Just made me shake my head :confused3 Don't know why they need to knock others to make themselves look better. Why not just show what they DO have, rather than stooping to dumb comments.

I think there was quite a long thread about this last week some time? You might want to read that one, too!

They actually do. When there is one clear, dominant supplier, as is the case here, the wannabes, like Universal, benefit from appealing to those who are attracted to irreverence -- people who respect the manner in which you show disrespect to the leader. Personally, I find the practice reprehensible, but you cannot argue with success.

I just saw that commercial today and worried about any 6-8 year old being too "old" for Disney. That would be pretty sad. I'm almost 24 and I'm never too old for princesses and fairy dust! I love other amusement parks but nothing even closely compares to WDW in my opinion.

I saw that commerical too and didn't like it. It's funny that they are the only theme park around here that had a drop in atendance last year when WDW and Sea World had both an increase in theirs.

One of DH's co-workers is going to Universal. Refuses to go to WDW. So, I looked them up to see what all the hoopla was about. Also, to see what I was missing. Their website had an ad you could preview. (apparently the one y'all are talking about) It was all about not being Disney. Ok, what are they? So, they asked if I would do a survey. I did. At the end it asked for comments. I let them know how I felt about their cheesy ads. I mentioned that all they did was tell me what Disney had. I let them know that I knew what Disney had. I was curious what they had. I challenged them to brag about what they had w/o comparing themselves to WDW. I also asked them why I would want to visit them instead of Six Flags.

Needless to say, I never got any other response other than a thank you for taking the survey.

Sad advertising if you ask me.

I love Disney so don't flame me!! I think the comercial was funny!! I knew people on this boards would take it personally, I laughted!! To me the commercial is the best form of flattery!!! If I was Disney I would be smiling too!! Universal can't compete with Disney and they are trying to get whom ever they can to come to their park, and can you blame them?? It's their business!!! Life is too short to worry about Universal! :lmao: :thumbsup2

Ok, flame away if you want!! I will be at Disney in two days, so it just doesn't matter!!

I didnt find the ad offensive, It looked to me, like they wanted to make it abundantly clear that they are completely dif. And I really think they are. Any more dif, and they may not both be considered *family destinations*. In competition, its all good. :thumbsup2

Universal has been running the "pixie dust and princesses" ad for two or three years now, I think. DISers, take heart. USF knows its place in the Orlando pecking order. It wants to grab up the people that it can get its hands on - ones who are looking for the raw thrills to be found at IOA or the specific attractions at USF. WDW is the attraction that ate central Florida, and these guys are just trying to grab all the crumbs they can any way they can.

While I am definitely a big WDW fan, people who have not tried the coasters at IOA or ridden Mummy or MIB at USF owe themselves a trip there to experience these things. :thumbsup2 Spiderman :charac4: and T2 3-D are unique attractions that have no equal on WDW property, and they are amazing. The Disney imagineers have no monopoly on thrilling creativity! :woohoo: An AP to USF/IOA only costs $120, so it's a great deal if you want to experience those parks several times. We love USF/IOA!

However, we haven't been to the WDW parks since January 2004 (used a USF AP the last two years), so we're itching to get back! :bounce: It's our real home away from home.

Tim, who loves Orlando overall, but really loves getting lost in the universal ;) appeal of WDW! pixiedust:

I do think, however, that this campaign represents a fundamental shift in Universal's perspective. There was a time, pre-9/11, when Universal was acting very-much like it thought it could become a true, competing destination resort in Central Florida -- that it really could attract a substantial number of guests to stay on their property for a whole week. It's clear that they've completely given up on that idea, now.

Well, let's just put it this way. The commercial worked. You saw and remembered it....

I find it pretty amazing that folks are takig this like it's a personal insult (or the "desperate" ) I actually think it does a good job of defining one the main differences between Universal and Disney. Univesal runs a good park. It's not my taste, but that does not make them evil or anything.
