Anyone ever have their home sewer pipe break off just outside of the foundation and insurance covered it?
Jimmy,

We had our sewer latteral "slip a joint" under the street at the end of my driveway. My drain continued to work fine, but it caused a 4ft deep sink hole in the street. It didn't look real impressive through the little hole in the street, but this opened up to a 3X4X4ft hole right under. I'm not sure why it didn't cave in when a car drove over it.

I got the pleasure of paying for all of that, including repaving the street. Insurance didn't cover anything.

My house wasn't built with plumbing. We (the city and me) are estimating the sewer and lateral were put in sometime in the 1920s. The city doesn't know how old the main is. Their oldest maps show the main already on a 1926 map. We are guessing my house had plumbing added when they put in the main.

I hope yours isn't as bad.

@4077 Generally insurance will not cover the break or clog. However, if you have a backflow rider it should cover the interior. I had the same happen to me in my MD house where a break/root/clog backed up. They did not cover the work outside to repair, they did cover all the clean up and drywall work.

So I posted a lot of updates on facebook for our trip staying at Copper Creek (Wilderness Lodge). I will share a few highlights here over the weekend.

The one thing I will say is the Safari Trek tour was worth it. The experience, talking to the keepers, getting to stop and watch the girraff work on its meal so up close and personal inside the fence of one hippo and crocodile habitate (safely of course)!!!

There is some walking to do, though not super high impact. The bridge is really the biggest part, though far from rickety, that part is the 'Disney Real' as our guides like to call it.

This was me looking down at the second hippo habitate we walked over.

They provided cooling towels, water bottles, and the meal was a fun adventure in cusine at an amazing place to eat!!

And seeing the babies in the park as well.

We here off to the left of the ride track road so close to these beauties.

And not to forgot seeing a 6 year old White Rhino with the zoomies.....

So if you are thinking about a tour at Animal Kingdom, this one we would highly recommend.

In case anyone hasn't seen the video from the Liberty Bell Steam Boat's last run around the Rivers of America on Sunday evening, here is a YT video you can watch from ResortTV1. The loading starts at the 6h28m mark.

Earlier in the video at the 3h24m mark, they board the rafts to ride over to Tom Sawyer Island and explore it one last time.

I like the ResortTV1 channel. They are an adult pair of brother/sister (Josh & Jenna). Josh is behind the camera in this video. Check out their stuff at https://www.youtube.com/@ResortTV1.

We've never done TSI or LB, the kids were never interested, don't know why they weren't

LB was a favorite of Melissa's father. So while we would opt to skip it, we usually went for a lap to send him some photos. I never went to TSI till this last trip, in all my trips it was either closed or had other things to do. However, with the final farewell I decided to go explore it at least once.

James,

The part I liked about Tom Sawyer Island were the tunnels. They were actually pretty elaborate IMO.

I dunno. I'm a nostalgic guy for all things Americana (as was Walt Disney). When we had the Mid-West DISMeet in Marceline, KS years ago, DW and I stopped on the way in Hannibal, MO and spent a day exploring Mark Twain's (Sam Clemens') childhood home town. It was fascinating.

A steam boat in the Magic Kingdom is a Walt-Original. At Disneyland, a riverboat named Mark Twain (obviously) entered service in 1955. And of course the Liberty Belle (originally named the Richard F Irvine (a Disney exec) was original to the Florida MK as was the Admiral Joe Fowler (which was dropped from a crane when going into drydock and not replaced).

If Disney wants to expand and add new rides in the parks (various Magic Kingdoms around the world), they can ADD rides but I don't want them to REPLACE Walt rides. I hate that 20,000 Leagues is no longer in Orlando. Expand beyond the railroad tracks (hello TRON) to add new rides.

PS - If Disney keeps on this track, next they'll tear down the castle because they can build a big ugly multi-level warehouse for an interactive, AI experience with 3D-AI goggles. You would sit in your little booth and be bombarded with sights, sounds, colors, and motion. The castle only has BBB and the upstairs restaurant. But an AI-goggle experience could be an ULTRA tier on the Lightning Lane tool ($$$). Monetizing the space is more about what Disney is about these days .....

I can almost forgive this as you are from OH/AL, but you were actually in the state of Missouri (Misery?) when we went to the museum and boyhood home. We know he moved to the Kansas City area from Marceline, but...
the Admiral Joe Fowler (which was dropped from a crane when going into drydock and not replaced).
I hadn't heard the story of the dropped river boat.

I agree that I hate to see original rides/attractions go, but except for the "Beyond Big Thunder Mountain" area that seems to already have a plan, there isn't much space directly north that isn't already back stage/infrastructure or constrained by the canal. Space and Tron are outside the RR, but they didn't have a canal running behind. I'm sure the bean counters saw the attendance on TSI and LB and decided that was the best area to dump in favor of a new bigger draw.

Nor had I until a few days ago, Jim. If you go to wikipedia and search "disney riverboats", it mentions the drop and links this article in the endnotes. It's in the last paragraph.

But we know where Disney likes to bury things on property.

Watch out world, DD passed drivers ed classroom and is now driving herself (with a foolish mortal...I mean parent in the passanger seat) to Starbucks! This route includes a section of US15 which is a divided highway type road with lights.

She still needs some hours and to take behind the wheel in the fall. Once she passes all of that she can drive by herself in January.
