Do any of you go tent camping by any chance?!?

Used to do that all the time!! But then I went and bought me one of these things...

I still love the great outdoors though! A camping vacation is a close second to a cruise!!

Oh my God did he really just say that?? What does he think that thing is, the Roy Suite on wheels? Seems weird to me.

Ummm...yeah. That's a bit much ain't it?! I don't think I could put camping & cruise together in the same sentence. Anyway, I asked 'cuz we DON'T camp & we're supposed to go the end of July on a rafting trip with the scouts...so I'm tent shopping - which to me means lots of research!

I grew up camping but was never fond of it. The campground where they stay on this trip is "primative" (no hook-ups, old fashioned outhouses, a pay shower at the office [50 cents for 10 min. or something].) Since it will be July it will likely be 90 some degrees + a good chance of evening storms. So this is NOT something I am looking forward to - I want to at least have a roomy, durable tent - but without spending $300 + on it. Have been looking at Colemans & sorta narrowed it to one but can't find that one in the stores - only online & didn't want to pay $30 shipping...so-o-o I bought another one at Target last night 'cuz it seemed nice & was a good price ($130) but then the reviews I found afterward make it sound like a nightmare to put up by all but one reviewer!:headache: Do ya have any advice on choosing a tent on the cheap?! Do you think it's worth another $40 or $50 to order the other one?

BTW, these silly cats are NOT going to "go" in this crazy no absorbtion litter stuff! I separated them over nite w/o any litter & then I got up this am & put the stuff in 2 little litter pans & I keep putting them into it...they think I'm NUTS! :scared: They are NOT going to "go" & meanwhile, Woody is in DS's bathroom crying pathetically...poor babies...looks like I'll be hauling one of them in to the vet in an hour.

Well Annie, I have not been tent camping in 6 years or so but I am like Beano and would put camping vacations right up there with cruising. Getting away from everything and into nature is my kind of relaxing. So back to the tent thing.

From what I am reading I have gathered that you are tent camping just for this one trip? Well, unless you go really high end you need to do some stuff to prep your tent.

1. You should set it up at home before the trip. While it set up in your yard you should brush your tent seams (inside and out) with waterproofing if the tent you bought is nylon.

2. Be sure to use a drop cloth under your tent that is smaller than the base of your tent. If it is bigger, it will hold water under your tent when it rains. Make sure that if it is bigger that you fold it under your tent.

3. I was always a fan of digging a rain trench on the high side of the tent to prevent running rain to get too close.

Good luck! Have a good time!

Thanks Tarzanman...I know about the tarp thing & that there's some prep work involved to waterproof etc. - and that to eliminate some of the frustration ON SITE we need to know how to set the thing up...I just don't know how to pick out the darned tent so I can make a purchase I don't regret! And this IS a purchase that may only be used once a year - so the higher end Paha Que, Kelty & North Face tents are OUT! I read some discouraging things about the Ozark Trail & Eddie Bauer tents so have eliminated those - which leaves basically leaves Coleman as our main contender...

I know we're only 3 ppl but I want a larger tent 'cuz I want room for STUFF & I want to be able to stand up inside! (We have a little 3 pp 8x8 Ozark Trail that we bought a few yrs ago for DS to play with in the yard - but the air mattress FILLS it!)

Anyway, this is the one that I WANTED to find but can't find it in a store locally, only online:
http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=9271C141&categoryid=11020

And this is the one that I actually BOUGHT (the bag says the seams on the rainfly are taped) but that I'm worried will be hard to put up (but I could always return it & order the other one...):

Do you think it really matters & that since they're lower end I'm gonna get bit in the butt either way?! I printed out all of the reviews I could find & DH couldn't care less....and I'm back to why I have the screen name that I do!:rotfl: Obsess, obsess, obsess!!

THANKS!

I thinkt that you will be fine with the tent that you got. I have a Coleman nylon tent that is 14 years old. No issues. Don't worry so much!!! :)

Isn't camping a hotel without room service? :lmao:

now isn't that just something I would say?

Geesh, all this talk about the upcoming trips, wedding, and baby, I'm getting so excited for you all! You would think I'm a part of everything. Those last few days before a trip are so much fun with all that excitement building up. And with a wedding thrown in there for a couple of you....:yay: You must be on cloud 9. :thumbsup2

And I just realized, I may be away when the new arrival makes it's entrance. :( (I forget if we know the sex). I do think DH will take his laptop so I will try to check in once in a while. I still vote for Kylie Ariel if its a girl...the name I never got to use. ;)

Sorry, I am no help with the camping info. I am the anti camper. My idea of roughing it is when we stay at a value resort. :rotfl2:

Busy day here. Colt had soccer at 10:30, baseball at 12:00, then Cam had both baseball and soccer at 1:30. But now its like 90 degrees out ant I just spent sometime sitting by the pool sipping some frozen mudslides. Its officially summer! :woohoo:

:goodvibes But worrying is my JOB!! If I don't do it who will?! (This trip isn't until the end of July - I'm just STARTING my obsession!) I just go overboard with everything I do!

Hi - that's so funny - I always have to remind Jared that if he'd been a girl he'd have been Haley Nicole! I like Kylie tho... Does this mean we'll never forget our girls names that we had picked out & never got to use?! I tried to use color coordinated socks as accessories on Jared with for the LONGEST time...until DH put his foot down & said he had to have white socks!:rotfl2:

I'm with you on the roughing it thing! (Kinda like no balcony on our cruise?! :lmao: )

It was really hot here today too......I actually went outside & laid out for a couple of hours on the patio (we don't have a pool :sad1: ) and my thermometer said it was 97....so I take an old fan outside with me when it's that hot! :thumbsup2

Well, Woody's urnine test came out OK! (So that means there's probably something wrong with Buzz....darn it!) Guess I'll keep watching for these little presents I find here & there & see if it continues....I'm worried he's eaten something that he can't pass....silly cat!!

:coffee: Morning Everyone...

Spent yesterday shopping for all those last minute things you kinda forget to purchase...ya know, like toothpaste and shampoo:rolleyes1 I can't believe I had forgotten such obvious things....DUH to me! :rotfl2:

Annie:
Not much of a camper myself. I used to like it better when I was younger...now, not so much. ;) But I still go with my family when we have time (at least our trailer has it's own bathroom!) :thumbsup2

Yesterday I bought some Mango margie mix...may have to break out the blender this afternoon :drinking1

Next week will be heep beeg busy.....graduation hair, graduation, finals, packing... etc. etc.

Hope everyone has a nice day :goodvibes

Can I just say... I like tzm's new siggie. I think the :bride: is s'posed to be me. :teeth: That means I'm going to WDW w/ new accessories to see cool people.

So, the DVC member price at AKV goes up tomorrow :sad1: and I wasn't able to convince DH that we should do a small add-on just yet (heavy sigh). Even made him watch the new DVD the other day. I guess I'll have to hope for a "sale" of some sort one day that would put the price per point lower than $101 - then maybe I can talk him into it. But for now, he's not biting on the $101 vs $104 thing (since I only want 68 pts. total it's not such a HUGE make or break difference). Maybe I can figure out a way  to convince him to do an add-on by the time they announce the Contemporary DVC....even tho I think I'd rather have AKV....but for now it looks like we'll be holding steady with what we've got at SSR...:(

RJ!!! I just made cupcakes with a Dunkin Hines yellow cake and Diet Dr Pepper...OMG!!!! SOO GOOOOOOD!!! and moist!!!!

I think I am in love!

LOL, Annie! I always said if I had twin girls they would be Kylie Ariel and Haylie Belle. Great minds! ;)

Thanks for reminding me of the cake. I still need to try it. :thumbsup2

I hope the :bride: and :groom: are getting ready!!! :goodvibes
