DIS Dads The DIS Dad's Club XII: Oh... There You Are Perry!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

I really like the idea of a mass get together. Not sure we need to go the non-profit route though. I am not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV but worked for non-profits for 17 years. Depending on the state you incorporate in, there are hoops you need to go through.

In Florida for instance, you need to also register with the Florida Department of Consumer Affairs, elect officers and maintain a board that meets “regularly,” file reports with the state, a 990 with the IRS and depending on the size you need audited financial records. We could do it but the only benefit I see is sales tax exceptions for events. Dues could be tax deductible for individuals but I don’t think that would amount to much. Travel and an individual’s costs for events is not.

I don’t think that other Disney groups that do similar things are organized as a non-profit but still hold events and raise money for charity. If we do pick a charity(s) individual contributions would be deductible under the donee’s tax deductible status.

Not to put a damper on things because I really like the idea. I just don’t think we need to become a non-profit. If we do decide to incorporate, I would be glad to lend a hand.

That is the kind of feedback I was looking for. How difficult would we need to make this? I have no idea, but thought if it could be worked out we could do some real good in the world and meet up in Disney to top it off.

David, I am on board. I have NO clue what goes into starting up any kind of charity, but if it helps others, and we can make a difference in the lives of those in need, I will do what I can to help.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes, it was a pretty good day.

That is really cool. So did you have to get into an awkward position to get that shot? I'd imagine that'd get some funny looks from non-disney people.

Welcome Jeff.

Disney addict here :thumbsup2

Next trip in March 2012....6th trip in 5 years....good thing I don't live closer !

Welcome.

So operation "convince DW we should go back to marathon weekend" was a success. I'm still waiting for 1 work thing to be finalized that I should hear about this week and then we'll book. She thought it was strange that for once in our marriage I was the one advocating spending money as usually my role is to encourage us to live on Ramen noodles and such.

Have any of you stayed at the refurbished rooms at POR? We have stayed at the updated FQ rooms and they were nice. I was curious if the update POR got queen beds too?

Silly newbie question Do any of the moderate resorts offer rooms with king size beds?

Update. I found the answer. Yes moderates do have king size beds, but they cost more than a standards double/double room.

Norm: Thanks for the pictures, and I'm glad you guys are having fun despite the weather!

Well with the fire today at MK looks like Norm and our other Dads who are there have been treated to Flood and Fire this week. I guess Famine would be next on the list right?:rotfl2:

So the Dads at WDW are dealing with torrential rains and a fire in Tomorrowland...And Groovertoo and Prattpak are stuck in port on the Disney Dream due to 60-mph winds...

Did any of you guys do something extra-blasphemous this past week or something? :confused3

I'm guessing that even with these various happenings, we'd all still trade places with the dads down there! :rotfl2:

Hmmm I think it depends on your perspective.
An optimist would think its pretty great that you had rain to put out the fire.
A pessimist would think the universe has to hate you pretty bad to first bring you torrential rains and still be angry enough to catch fire when everything is wet.
A disdad would realize he's in one of the most magical place on earth and "weather" (sorry horrible pun) or not things are going perfect everyone on this board would like trade places with him in a second. We're like the mail man; neither rain, nor sleet, nor fire will keep us from enjoying the time with our families...and star tours2.

So I'm not sure if this goes here, the "Introduce Myself..." thread, or both, so I'm safely opting for both... I've ran up close to a few hundred posts or so, most over on the Cruise Thread. Since we're leaving on the Wonder in 10 days, I'll need a new DIS addiction to switch to after my return and TR, so I was told on another thread to get my rear over here. So here goes! Hope you guys'll have me!

All this talk about Pooh and your rear has really got to stop! :lmao::lmao: Welcome to the club! You are member #658! :thumbsup2

Great post overall, but I think there is a line in there that has some DDC criteria potential! :thumbsup2

Hey David,

Still a great idea. We can still do real good and meet up. Doesn't stop others, no reason to stop us. I'm in.

A great big WELCOME to both of you!

A fellow NBers and one from close to my home town. To bad you are on the wrong side of the chocolate river though.

Canada has a river that flows with chocolate? Tell me more about this magical place!

On an unrelated note (because let's face it, there really aren't many notes related to rivers of chocolate flowing through the Great White North), next year the Florida Marlins are moving to a new stadium, have re-branded themselves the Miami Marlins, and have a new logo. Someone on a sports-related blog I read pointed out that is is strikingly similar to an old WDW advertisement.

Can anyone tell me what my DisDads member # is ? I'm thinking of getting a pin made for my next vistit. Maybe something like the lime green Mickey ears the other Dis members use ??

You must have missed Emma's Dad's post... you're #660.

We used to have a logo and some T-shirts (which are apparently now considered contraband, since the Disney lawyers had some issues with that logo). Hopefully we'll get a new logo picked out and can get some more T-shirts and other various pieces of memorabilia floating around.
