Okay, guys, my younger daughter just had her 4th birthday, and upon measuring her height for this milestone, we found out she was 40" tall. This means that the whole family is eligible to ride Tower of Terror. Mwahahaha. :scared1:

My question is: At what point did you subject your children to this ride? I have seen people go on with kids right at the height of the measuring stick, but I have no idea who those yahoos were. I know who you yahoos are. Any thoughts?

Ask Captain O. :rolleyes1

You should be the best judge of how your daughter would like or dislike it...

My DS 11 loves it...he's loved it since he was "7"...however DS16 does not...and has not since he was "12".

My advice is take it very slow and work up to different intensities. We "broke" DS about 3 trips ago by thinking he was ready for Space Mountain. After that ride we couldn't get him to go on Test Track, Thunder Mountain, or even Barnstormer, all of which he had ridden multiple times without issue. For two trips after that he was still very tentative going on any fast rides.

Of course I got him to go on Splash Mountain by telling him the Fastpass line was for people who didn't want to go on the course that had the big drop:confused3. As we neared the drop I looked at him and said "You know what buddy? I think they loaded us in the wrong boat!"

For the record, he did ride that one again and want to go on "the side with the drop".

My older daughter loves the Barnstormer, and even other roller coasters that are fairly sedate, but Thunder Mountain completely wigged her out. It didn't quite break her; she did ride the Barnstormer more after that, but she didn't want to hear about any "big kid" roller coasters from then on.

The younger one, though, is fairly fearless. ToT is such a different experience from any other ride in the parks. They loved the kids' crab thing over at Sea World which does drops like ToT, but is only about 12' high or so, and doesn't get nearly as much speed on the drops. Oh, and plus no insane creepiness.

I think I just talked myself out of it...

We just told the kids on our trip that we wouldn't make them do anything they didn't want to do. But I did coach my son through Test Track. I used YouTube videos and old home movies to show him what it would look like (he's very cautious by nature). Even when we got on Test Track, he was really nervous and scared...but then he did it, and now it's his favorite ride.

As far as ToT goes, we had no shot of getting them on there. I think it's because they know I did it once and hated it. So I might have ruined it for them... :scared1:

Har de har har. :rotfl:

I'm just happy to say I did it once.

Funny you should ask that....
Our trip in December to the TOT with my 6yo went something like this..... Came in through the gates at HS and thats all my son wanted to do now being a "big boy" and being tall enough. The whole walk up there is saying in his scariest voice.."the tower of TERRAWRRRRRR" at which point we would all scream and he would laugh his butt off. We get in line and he is still very excited, get into our seats and buckle and he is still super excited, go through the whole TZ spill and just when the stars come out he says very softly...."Dad....ummm.... I dont want to do this anymore..." at that point i say in my most calm "Fatherly" voice...."well Son...its a little late for that"... JUST THEN IT DROPS!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:
He was crying, I felt horrible, thought he was ready...NOPE. We get off and he is nervously giggeling. I say, "was that awesome buddy"? He says, "Yeah", in a quivering, excited voice. I say, "wanna do it again"? In which reply was, "NO"!!!!!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Oh beverley did we laugh!!!!

This is EXACTLY the experience I had with my DS this last trip (minus the home movies part.) It is now his #1 favorite ride - he even likes it better than TSMM!
Next time, I want to try to get him to try RnRC.

My DD was excited when she found out she could ride ToT the first year we took her (age 5)... but when she got to the boiler room she started freaking out. Should have bailed out then.. but got her through the queue anyway. Then she was fine until the stars came out... oh boy... she didn't stop crying during the drops. Should have seen the "poor baby" looks she got from the other riders... and the "How could you??" ones I got :confused3 Pretty badly shaken, but not broken.
The entire year she was bragging to her friends how she was brave enough to ride it... and we ended up riding it 3 times in a row the next year. She's good-to-go now:thumbsup2

We did this as well. The You Tube videos really help calm the kids down. They had no problems on most of the rides.

Our kids were both tall for their ages and were both able to ride at 3 years....They Loved it! However, they are little daredevils!! I think they might have a little Eveil Kenevil DNA in them!

Just went over and read his bio. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I knew from reading some of your previous postings that you are really proud of him, and you definitely have good reasons for that.

My youngest DD(6) is so looking forward to many of the rides now that she install enough. She is fearless and i always knew that she would be my coaster kid. I love them and have done and love every one. Dd(8) wants nothing to do with them. So her and DW will find other things to do together. A few others mentioned that like us we told her that we would not make her do any of the
rides bit I told her that I would like her to think about a few just so that she could have the experience. Thankfully she is thinking of trying my favorite space mt.:cool1:
