Hey just a reminder... the Daytona 500 will take place in just a few days. We have a DIS Dad's NASCAR league on Yahoo for anyone who is interested in joining... there's no limit to how many teams we can have and casual fantasy/NASCAR fans are welcome. Come on over if you're interested.

What are you going to do? I’m going to Disney World.

Haven’t been on the boards for a while because I spent six weeks in the hospital fighting an infection in my legs and feet. Due to complications, what was supposed to take a week ended up as a six week stay. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s were celebrated in the hospital. Good times.

I talked to MS to bank points and they let me know I had a few points expiring in June. Decided to take a trip and booked a couple of days at BLT in a 1 Br., Standard View over DD’s Spring Break. Yesterday, the waitlist came through for the second day. We may take her friend with us. We will also use this opportunity to visit some colleges.

I don’t think I will make it to the parks but I will get DD and her friend a one day park hopper so they can get a Disney fix. The only plans are to see the fireworks from the top of BLT. Looking forward to getting away for a bit.

Wow, welcome home from the hospital! I hope everything is okay.

That's nice that you were able to get a stay at BLT. I hope it's enjoyable being there, and that your DD's visit with her friend are great too. Keep us posted.

She'll love this! At 8 years, she's more of a Plants vs. Zombies girl, but I'm working her up slowly.

And yes, we do have a Zombie Infestation Plan and we review it regularly.

As well you should...you cannot be overly prepared, you must have the plan ready to execute at any given moment.;)

Rule #1. Cardio.:rotfl2:

The guys over at WDWToday just did a whole podcast on figuring out the best locations in each Walt Disney World park from which to make your last stand against the Zombie apocalypse. (It's Episode 837 - Mmmm ... brainsss!) :)

Oh this is beyond AWESOME....I need to check it out...:woohoo:

Smoke.

I don't care that Jr. is on the pole...it's a conspiracy I tell you....A CONSPIRACY.....if I was the 24, I'd be ticked...:rotfl2:

This and the baseball leagues sound like fun, but I have enough trouble keeping up with football, and there are far fewer games to keep up with there! If there is a football season, I'll probably catch up with you guys there. Have fun!

Guys, if you're interested, I started a mini-TR about our day trip to the Statue of Liberty. I posted it over at the DIS Dads club webpage. After clearing out the cobwebs, of course. I can't believe what you guys did to that place!

Anyway, if you're interested in following along, here's the link:

My apologies for the mess that the DDC web page has become. I'm hoping to get to spend some time sweeping up/reorganizing/etc.

Actually, I've been meaning to post about this for a while. Here's the deal, I could really use some help keeping the site "live." I just can't keep up with it the way things are going at work these days. And dealing with the spam registrations has gotten beyond overwhelming (though at least Akismet has helped to keep the actual spam comments from appearing). Here's what I'd like to propose, and I'd appreciate any feedback:

1) I need to deal with user registration. The site thinks that we have over 300 users. But fully 1/2 of those (at least) are spammers not actual DisDads. The problem is that a certain proportion of those ARE actual DisDad users, and I just can't keep track of everyone anymore. Very soon, I'm going to have to go through and delete a bunch of those spam users. If I accidentally delete a real DisDad, please just let me know and we'll see what we can do to get you reinstated.
2) I'd really appreciate a group of Dads who would be willing to volunteer to be regular blog posters. If I can get seven dads who are willing to write one post/week, plus me, that would keep us going with a steady two article/week fresh content pace. If there are more Dads who want to contribute occassionally, that's great. But I'm hoping that there is a core that would be willing to be regulars.
3) I'm still playing with the idea of trying to do an occassional podcast (maybe 1/month?). Are there a couple of other Dads who are comfortable with using Skype on their computers, have decent microphones/headsets, and might be interested in having a late-night online conversation, talking about being a Disney Dad?

Comments? Questions? Feedback is greatly appreciated!!

OK, I went ahead and did the user cleanup on my lunch break. Wow. Our actual user count is currently 49. That means I deleted 251 spam users. I apologize if anyone's account was inadvertently deleted. If I didn't recognize a name, I erred onthe side of aggressive cleanup. If you want to make sure you don't get your user account deleted, please fill in the biographical information. When I see a "real" name, it's a tip that it's not a spam account, because the spam accounts are generally automated and don't fill in bio information at all. Just FYI, the vast majority of the spam accounts were .ru Email addresses. I'm looking into whether there's a way to block .ru registrations across the board.

I am more than happy to contribute once again. I basically stopped what I was posting because it got overwhelming for a while. I've thought about going back to it, but just haven't yet. I was enjoying it though, and would be happy to pick up and start again - or start something fresh. Whatever works.

I wouldn't say it's a mess (well, except for the spam crap you're dealing with), but it's just been inactive.

Sign me up as a regular contributor. I'd love to be on board. Whether anyone else would want to read my drivel, well...that's a different question.

I don't have a microphone or headset and have never, ever used Skype before. But that's not to say I wouldn't give it a shot in the future.

Wow! Sorry it was such a pain. Thanks for hosting the site and doing all of this behind-the-scenes work! :thumbsup2

Heeeeeeey! My requested account under my "business" name of "biggerbiggerbiggerbigger4xmenshealth@business123.biz" didn't go through! What's the deal?

lol

Actually, I thought I had signed up a long time ago and I guess I didn't. That's getting fixed now. :)

Our Valentine's Day??? Taxes! Nice refund but I lost the new countertops vs Disney trip argument. That fight was over before it even started...

Don't be so hard on yourself- you write very nice drivel.

I will sign on to be a regular blog poster. I know I am not currently a regular DisDads thread poster, but I would like to contribute to the site with a little time to sit and think about putting something coherent together.

The podcast idea sounds fun, but my AV setup pretty much begins and ends with my iPhone headphones. :sad2:

Actually, iPhone headphones might work as a Skype headset. If they can be used as an iPhone headset, they've got a built-in microphone. I need to play around a bit on my own end and see if I need to invest in a "real" headset or if I can get away with using my Jawbone bluetooth headset. I've got a recommendation on a good podcasting headset from a friend somewhere, but I'd rather not have to buy equipment to do it if I can help it.

This deserves the biggest Welcome Back this site will allow! Hope all is well. I know a few days at Disney will certainly help!

I can be a regular poster there as well. My drivel is not quite up to Mark's level, but most of it is legible.

If there's enough interest in a podcast, I'll give it a go. What's the worst that can happen? We become the laughing stock of the Internet? Again? :lmao:

Final Dance season?? Whatever will you do with all that spare time when it's all done? :confused3 I know... go to Disney World!! :lmao:

well, the 12k it cost for dance per year. vs. the 10k for school, looks like i got a 2k a year raise!:lmao: what ever will we do with the extra cash????

I just posted a new blog entry, calling for volunteers. Please comment on that entry if you're interested, as I think it will be easier to keep track of over there in that format.

I think this is just the kick in the butt I needed to get us back on track! Watch out world, here comes the DISDads' multimedia assault! :dance3:
