We settled on Avon mianly because of its proximity to downtown Indianapolis, where my wife will be working. I hear that it's growing, so as an architect, it might be a good place to find work. It was hard for us to decide between Avon, Brownsburg, Carmel & Fishers, but Avon just seemed like a better fit for us. We are hoping to find something in the north west side of town, but the rental house we like is actually south east. Not that it matters, it will probably be gone by the time my wife gets her final offer.

We live in Noblesville, north of Fishers. My DW has a cousin who lives in Brownsburg, and another cousin who lives in Carmel. We're all pretty happy with our own choices, and proximity to what Indianapolis has to offer. Of course my office is on the north side of Indy, right near the Carmel border, so being in Noblesville made sense for us. Renting first will give you the opportunity to get to know the area better anyway, before making the commitment to a house. When we came here, we were pretty much given a weekend to explore it in person. We found the house we're in and bought it. Of course we'd done a bunch of online research first, and knew we wanted to be in Noblesville before we ever set foot in the Indianapolis airport thanks to that. I will say, 9 years later, I wish we had rented first because I would have bought a different house - actually I would have had one built instead. The one we bought was a spec house filling out the neighborhood. It's nice and all, but definitely things I would have done differently if I had it do over again. So we wait a little longer and then look to sell & move.

We've talked about it for a couple of years now, but there have been too many houses in the neighborhood languishing for sale for 6-9 months or more...so it just gives us more time to complete the improvements, fixes in order to properly market it. Perhaps in 2012 we'll be ready to take that step.

No "snow-sensing flame thrower", no calling in precision napalm drops on the gutters, no nothing Fed? Is it to early in the morning for you? :confused3 :rotfl:

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

No, more like I don't havethat issue so I haven't come up with a solution....:rotfl2:

You bring up a good point though, I should work on this:banana:

we were torn between Avon, Brownsburg, Carmel & Fishers (Noblesville seemed too far north). DW's job is in the heart of Downtown Indy, and we had a heavy bias towards Brownsburg for some reason, when I researched Avon a little, and learned that it was relatively new and growing, I figured it would be a good place for me to find work. The more we learned the more we liked it. All the other locations seem excellent, remember, I'm coming from an area where two police officers where shot and killed in broad daylight just yesterday. Anything would be better than this.

The only thing we want to commit to at this point is city, we will rent but we will eventually buy in that same school district. I really don't want to have to uproot my kids from another school. Of course, we decided on Avon, it does not mean thats where we will ultimately go, we still don't know when DW will start at her new position, once we're ready to pull the trigger on a rental, something amazing might pop up for us in Carmel or Fishers (Noblesville still seems a bit far from DT, LoL). Brownsburg is also a possibility, as is Zionsville, but I just have a gut feeling about Avon, then again, it might just be gas....

-11 at my house this morning and a high of 3 expected. I've got so many layers on I look like the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man. Come oooon Summer!
Yep, on the news they showed the graphic this morning and it looks like it is kind of Minneapolis, to Chicago to Indy back up to Lake Michigan getting some Canadian air today. They did say we might see a high of 13 today :woohoo:
it must be coming this way. we are going down to 9 tonight, high of 19 sat., down to 0 sat. night sunday high of 20. and we wont see 30 till thursday with another storm coming in on tuesday night.
Yep, sounds like it is. On the bright side, the sun is out and it looks very warm and inviting out there.:thumbsup2

It's funny, because I really can't speak of this move in public yet, so my Facebook updates have been very cryptic. Here there is a little more anonymity so when I'm about to burst with excitement or anticipation or something huge happens, I tend to come here so I can get it out before I explode.

I will admit that I am going to miss being so close to WDW, especially with my girls being at such a perfect age, but this way, they won't be saturated with the parks and when we do go it will be a big deal. Growing up, I always loved going, even when it was only MK, but by the time I was 12 or so, we stopped going as often and the magic was no longer there. But I'm really glad that we where able to take that trip in Xmas of '09, it was an awesome trip that was made perfect by much of the advice I recieved on this board. Thanks guys....

Well, I live southeast of Indy (between Shelbyville and Franklin). I used to have to travel around the state quite a bit. I had to travel to Danville or Noblesville once in a while and north on 31 frequently. I believe Stopher is in the Fishers/Noblesville area, so he might know some shortcuts, but to me US 31, I 69 and Allisonville Rd are a pain in the you know what during rush hour. I've really never had much trouble on the West side except during this constructiion they have now. Hopefully though, it should be wrapping up sometime soon. Rockville Road (US 36) is usually pretty busy, and has several lights, but it always moves well (except when you're trying to get away from Indianapolis Motor Speedway after the 500). Anyway, I do think you guys are choosing well and I'm glad you have this group to anonymously share with before you explode. We'll keep your secret safe.;)

I'm sorry that you'll have to be farther from the World though. Let me assure you that it can be very special when you live far away and don't get there often. My parents took me for the first time in 1985 and every 3 to 4 years after that until 1998. I was in HS at that time and still looked forward to it as much as I did when I was 4. We took 10 years off after that trip and took an adult family trip in 2008 after my sisters had graduated college and it really just reignited the spark and reminded me what I had been missing. Not being able to go very often, I think, really makes you appreciate it that much more. I never got to the stage that it was stale, lame or boring. I did go through a stage where I wanted nothing to do with Fantasyland or any of the characters or parades, but as far as Disney and Disney magic goes, it has always been special. Just embrace that idea and it might make your visits that much more special.

BTW dads, I'm uploading some video's to the FB page. Consider it my trip report, seriously, who has time to write those things. The first TR is from Xmas 2009 and has like 15 parts to it. I'm posting the first one now and should be processed soon. I will try to post a few more today if nothing else pops up. Enjoy.

P.S. I do not hold the copyright to anything used in those videos except for the images of my family, everything else is owned by someone else, so don't sue me.

Dave, I think you guys are getting all the snow we got last year. It seems like every storm is just missing us, and pounding NJ, eastern PA and New England instead. I don't mind missing the shoveling, but I keep hoping for a free day off work...

Ok, I'm not sure if I asked this before or not but what about excursions? I'm signed up for the snorkeling trip in Nassau (non-Atlantis version). Any experience? What about stuff at CC?

For excursions in Nassau, I’d have to do a bit of research. Personally, I’ve been to Nassau several times and it’s not that big a deal to me (mostly I like cruising just to be on the ship regardless of where it’s going). Our current plan for that day is to stay onboard while the crowd heads off into tourist land. That way we will be able to take advantage of the reduced crowds to catch a bunch of rides on the Aqua-Duck, play a bit of the onboard mini-golf and just enjoy the ships amenities (also the food is free). In the afternoon, we might head out to the Pirate museum, but that’s about it for us.

Now, as for stuff to get into on CC… I liked the idea of just kicking back and ordering boat drinks myself, but there are plenty of floats, rafts and such for just lollygagging in the lagoon, and the new “Pelican Plunge” with slides climbers and various other implements is open now. There is also now a type of water playground (that your kids might be growing out of, but its Disney, and they don’t know those folk, so what’s to stop ‘em). We’ve done the snorkeling at CC and really enjoyed it. And, if you happen to bring your own fins, mask and snorkel, then DCL will let you use one of there life vests (a legal requirement) for free and the whole excursion comes in at zero dollars. There is also a type of scavenger hunt that I don’t know the details on yet, but since I’m interested in doing it this time so I’ll look into it and let you know. Bike rentals, walking trails, surf-bikes, wave runners… All available (but obviously not dirt cheep).

We’re actually going to be on CC twice this time around (cruising on a 5 day “Double Dip” this June), so on the first day, I’d like to try the parasailing, and then just play around in the lagoon. When we comeback a few days later, I’ll probably try to do the scavenger hunt, and then spend a lot of time at one of the cafes ordering up drinks and just watching the water (at least, that the current plan).

On a side note, anyone's kids into the Imagination Movers? They're going on tour and we just bought our guy the Mini Movers Package for the show in Jacksonville---should be a good time:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We caught them last year, it was actually one of the better concerts I've been to in a while; you'll have a blast! If you can, sit G closest to the aisle, they encourage the kids to get out an jump around and the guys come out into the audience quite a bit.

Hi everybody! I'm new on here and would love to join the group. My family has a Disney World vacation planned for Mar 25-Apr 1, But found out today I get to transfer to Orlando and will be working 11 miles from the world! Any one from around Orlando or know what areas to avoid and what areas are good??

Welcome! Congrats on the transfer!

We got 4 inches last night/this morning but the sun is already out. The wind is picking up and it is going to be cold here this weekend too.

I heard today that the Tuesday storm could be like the one from last week. What's another 30'' of snow right?:confused3 :lmao::lmao:

I will believe it when I see it!!! Bring on the big stuff enough already with these little snow falls. Give us something decent

Also, make sure you have a contingency plan in your "what to do if zombies attack" manual to account for a zombie attack in the snow. Can't be to prepared if the undead decide to rise...

Are you REALLY going to get Fed started on the zombies again?? :sad2: :lmao::lmao:

Let's see... been a few days since I jumped on the board and I see the chatty Kathy's are at it again :rotfl2:
Dave - Hope the tooth feels better!!
Ron - Good thing you have a high tolerance for pain... cause that's a LOT of dental work there! Ouch!
Barry - Sorry about the blues... I feel your pain and have had a hard time the last few weeks, too. Especially missing the AAA Disney day! :lmao:
Nate - Good to see you popped in here for a moment. You got the blues, too??

It's Friday... hoping work goes by quickly and start the weekend on a good note. The DW and I picked out some laminate flooring last week and it's ready to be picked up now. Only doing the room over the garage... but it's still 280 square feet of flooring to do. Will be fun.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....this is outside of my expertise, but it won't be for long;);):rotfl2::rotfl2:

I did not bring this up.....Barry did:lmao:

Just wanna celebrate a little bit... I FINALLY HAVE A TICKER!!!!:woohoo::cool1: Going to the AAA office tomorrow morning to put my money down and earn my $25 gift card...

re: DVC stuff:

I always seem to get to that point of looking at the dollar value and see how much I could save by doing out of pocket - with no financing at all. Honestly, that's where I'd like to be and if I had the spare money lying around I know we'd jump on it.

We went back and forth on the same thing with the promos they were offering for non DVC resorts. We finally decided to take the plunge and said my yearly bonus would cover the finance payments (of course the next year they scraped the bonus program:scared1:) In a couple of years when we are just paying the annual dues it will seem like a much better idea.

That sounds like a similar itinerary to ours this year. We are going to visit Busch Gardens and Clearwater Beach for about 4 days, then drive over to WDW. Congrats!!
