DIS Dads The Dis Dad's Club II

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Way off topic but I could use some help with what to do? some of the PA. Dis dads will have heard this on local news already.

tis is my next door neighbor and friend, I held that bear cub in my lap and played with it when they first rescued it in 2000, and my grandson Tom use to work for them cleaning cages and feeding The animals. so what would be an appropriate thing to take up there, maybe help out. the article doesn't tell that Mike and Kelly have 2 kids. :confused3:confused3

Be there for them, bringing food is a great idea, I know when my Dad passed away recently people were bringing food over to my moms house. This really helped. You could help to tend to some of the chores around the house like cutting the grass? This sort of thing seems trivial but can go a long way, when some is grieving, small things can feel like the end of the world if they don't get done. Like others have said be there 2-3 weeks from now when the dust settles. That is when they will really need your help.

Wow, what a rant....sorry guys, the deployment must be getting to me???:confused3:confused3:lmao::lmao:

No problem, rant away. We are here to listen. As a Canadian, we appreciate the work that you guys are doing over there for us as well. We have our boys in Afganistan trying to accomplish the same sorts of things. Its a tough road but all of you are serving us well.

About your rant, I counld'nt agree more. not that I don't get peed off when I get a speeding ticket......

I had read about this story yesterday while checking out CNN's news feeds. Even at the time of reading it I thought "Now THAT is a huge tragedy... to happen to someone who cares deeply for those animals... then have it turn on her... and then killed." Sounds like you have already done a few things to help the family out. Not sure what other advice I could give, but I do offer my prayers to both your family and the victim's family.

Nate, Welcome to my world.......

Some people today never think they do anything wrong, and there seems to be a very big sense of entitlement amongs the population nowadays--heck, read some of the reports and reviews on these boards, you'd swear people expect the clouds to open up, the choir of Angels to start singing, and God himself to lay out the red carpet of Disney World to insure their vacation experience is "one for the record book"...after all, it's Disney right? A lot of people think Disney is the "Can't miss Magic Place". But this is the real world, everyone misses sometimes. I read it on these very boards just about every day "Disappointed in...." "Where's the pixie dust..." "Avoid XXX......"

Look at your average college football fan...screaming and cursing at a Freshman wide receiver who drops a tough pass in the rain, or cheering at a quarterback being knocked senseless and being taken out due to concussion---or that quarterback's own fans calling him a wimp, and slamming him on the call in show......Have people forgotten that's an 18 to 20 year old Kid out there???? NFL players are one thing, they get paid big bucks to perform...College players, regardless of how "great" their program is, or how much they get hyped, are still "kids" out there, playing a "game"...

In 2006 I hovered over an 18 year old who had just gotten shot through the neck by a sniper, who when captured admitted he was aiming at me (I looked like an intel officer)......He died, right there in front of me while I tried to help stop the bleeding---and the press has the nerve to criticize what these guys do on a regular basis...and my OWN FATHER has the nerve to call the military "heavy handed"...tell that to that kid's mom and dad. I met them...must gut wrenching experience of my life. I wonder if dad would've felt differently had it been me lying there...

Sorry, but some people think the world revolves around them. I will say this. In 18 years of law enforcement, I have people who still remember me, and hate me, for writing them a DUI or a speeding ticket---but people who I arrested for robbery who thanked me later because it straightened their life out.

The Difference? The speeders didn't believe they did anything wrong. The others knew it, and they could get over it..:confused3

Agreed. I find it amazing how vastly different American morals can be. Didn't seem to be so divided when we had God as the head of our families and not material things. Oops... did I mention God in this post?

I don't think anyone here has an issue with it, especially with the sacrifices you make for us. RANT ON!:listen:

Wow, what a rant....sorry guys, the deployment must be getting to me???:confused3:confused3:lmao::lmao:

Fed: Rant on. We're here for you to relieve some stress, and hopefully give you some "home life" to lean on while your away.

Emma's Dad: Amen Brother!

Trennr: Keep those corn-hoppers on their toes! Hopefully you won't have too many more this season.

Grumpy John: Unfortuantely the news outlets don't want to tell the whole story. I'll echo other comments to say just be a good neighbor and offer support in any way you can. Remember, the smallest things like a hot meal or vacuuming the floor can be the biggest help of all.

Let's take a little look at the ol' calendar on the wall, shall we? Well, lookie here - 2 days to go! :cool1:

With the world the way it is, rant away. I am reading a book (recommended by Dave Ramsey) called Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters by Meg Meeker. It is not about Disney, but about us dads and our role with our daughters. It does not talk about ranting, but what we has dads should actively do to protect our daughters against those who would commit them harm in this world. I am only in Chapter 3, but it is a good read thus far. And, with two daughters, I will consider all the advice I can get.

I hope it cools off a bit for you today at AK, you'd think with all the trees and shade it would be cooler there but all it seems to do is block any breeze. At least they were generous with the amount of misting fans there.

Thanks for the info on Tour Guide Mike, I looked into it for our last trip but figured I was stealing DW's thunder since she had already started puting her plan together. I'll definately have to try it for the trip in April.

My MIL has decided to come visit us this Thursday - for 17 DAYS!

And, we don't have a big home so there is nowhere for me to hide (1000 square feet for me, DW, DS12, DS6 and MIL).

Be afraid, be very afraid...

13 nights down, 4 nights to go.

Crawling towards the finish line. It's starting to get a little dicey...

For those who have been waiting patiently (FOREVER :rotfl:), my TR has been updated.

For those getting ready to head out to visit Mickey and friends... have fun!

Well, tomorrow's the day. We head out after work - looking at backing out of the driveway at 5:43 or so. Anything before or after that will totally screw up my timing and throw the entire vacation into a tailspin. :rotfl:

DW insisted we pack the van last night. Except for a few last minute things and stuff that goes in the cooler, I've got it all packed in. A co-worker walked past the van this morning, then came into my office. "Ready to go, yet?":rotfl2:

I told Emma's Dad I would post my video from Pixie Hollow, but I didn't want to hijack his TR, so I'm posting it here. It was during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party in 2008. We had seen Iridessa, Tinker Bell, and Rosestta earlier that day, but DD really wanted to meet Silvermist and Fawn. We were told that they usually come out for the parties. So while DW and the kids finished eating dinner I went over to Pixie Hollow to get in line for when they opened at 7:00. Luckily, I was first in line. DS has had a long day at this point, as evident by his "interaction" with Silvermist. Anyway, here it is:

(if you think I'm busy at work today, wait until tomorrow!:rotfl2:)
