The DIS-Clutter Thread!

I have one of those shelves with buckets on them and I LOVE it! I put our big plastic toy box outside to hold all the sports stuff. It works well for that at least.

Morning all! I got more of my closet done. I will finish today and then will have dh help me with the game closet. The games are stacked UP UP UP, so I can't reach them.

But first, my coffee!

omgosh I am cleaning the garage today

it is SO bad!!

If you dont hear from me by tomorrow send out the guard!

I've got a question, though, about organization. I had a toybox in my kids' playroom, which ended up with toys never being played with because they were on the bottom of the box, and no one would dig. So I got rid of the toy box and got those shelf-bins meant for kids playrooms. Unfortunately, stuff is overflowing and won't stay organized.

I've got the shelf-bins in each of the kids' rooms and love them! They're great for letting the kids bring one or two bins out to the LivingRoom to play with and then making sure they pick everything up and put it away before they pull out something else or go to bed.

I do have to go in every couple of weeks and do declutter on the bins -- separating toys back into appropriate bins (cars in two bins, trains in three bins, one bin for misc. toys, etc.) and also throw out anything that's broken or not getting much use anymore.

In DS4's room, he also has a large toy box for his larger cars and trucks, a bookshelf for books and puzzles, and a shelf for his stuffed animals. It sounds like you either need additional storage or fewer toys. If your kids are a little bit older, you may try labelling the boxes (even picture labels would work for the preschool set) to keep them from mixing up the toys.

This weekend I've made good progress decluttering the office, Office Closet, and Game Closet each a bit -- none of it is completed, but nothing is sitting out either, so I have progress to grow on.

I took 3 kitchen-sized garbage bags of garbage out -- old catalogues, used-up coloring books, bills and receipts that I shredded yesterday (finally). Got half of my files in my desk cleaned out and reordered. And found a nice spot in the Office Closet for my "Hot Spot" pile of papers that I need to go through, but that was making an unsightly mess in my office in the meantime. In general, my office is now a much nicer place to be!

My closet and the game closet are done (with the exception of the play-doh toys that go in the game closet...I need a Rubbermaid to put them in).

What a great feeling!! :cool1:

I'll post my first baby step in my declutter battle. Today, I processed the last two weeks worth of mail, and put every single piece where it BELONGS!. Sounds like something small, but I almost never do this. I'll put stuff in a basket to file, or box to shred, or put it down, just for now.

Today: I shredded, filed, and even wrote cards I had been meaning to. :cool1:
I feel your pain. Mail is my biggest obsticle - and with a home-based business, I get a ton of it.

I am on my way back into DS1's room as soon as I finish typing this. We spent some time in there yesterday - he's a practical guy and can pitch things in a heartbeat. THen we hit target & bought a couple of bins for the stuff that is attic bound. I even bought him new sheets because he has been complaining about the pilling on the old ones scratching him. Sensative skin runs in the family, the old sheets are 6-7 yrs old & were "cheap" to start with. We got a set of jersey sheets on sale for $10 at Target. I hope they don't lose their shape too soon.

Top of the refridgerator is empty! :sunny:

I actually did label and put away all the school supplies, and I completely cleaned the computer desk! :goodvibes

Feeling better about the clutter already.

I also got started on the guest room closet. We store all of our kiddie art stuff in there, so there were lots of dried out markers from last school year and broken crayons. With prices on these things being low now, I threw them all out! I am going to go buy a thing of markers and a big box of crayons for them.

Unfortunately, one of the other things I did today is wash the filter on my vacuum. It has to dry for 12 hours, so I am not going to be able to vacuum out the closet. There are about 100 sequins from the art bins all over the floor, so I have to vacuum before I can re-assemble it. Sometimes I just don't think. I also got the kids closets done, but that was only a couple of minutes because I had just done it. I put all our Harry Potter legos in one big container, which is great because they were everywhere. Don't remember if I posted that already or not!

The garbage bags are piling up, and I am tired, but I feel more free and lighter! Congrats to all and keep up the good work! :teeth:

Well just today I cleaned out some of my kitchen cabinets. I found all kinds of water bottles, thermoses, cutlery and other junk. I found theme park maps from a park that doesn't even exist anymore, and some other junk. Just that junk alone was two trash bags. I found some perscription medicine that I accidently refilled because I thought I used it all up. It was amazing how much crap I tossed out.

I have been away all weekend so I just caught up on this thread.WOW everyone has been busy!I feel really guilty.I am going to work on mine and DH's room tomorrow. We have way too many clothes in there and my youngest is actually sharing our room right now so her stuff is not helping.

Nope! No guilt allowed! We are here for each other whether you just need to dust a bit or whether you have boxes of acid washed jeans and fingerless gloves to go through. Whether you have no idea what to do with your Nsync bobbleheads or no idea why you have so much stamping equipment (or both, in my case  ). You were away. No biggie!

Hi. I am with yous all. wish yous all lived near by. I love cleaning other peoples home ,then there is mine. Not to bad though. Having DD16's boyfriend and friends over all the time keeps me trying to keep clean. But for now, I am off finally on a weeks holidays to the cottage. Keeping all of this in mind and making notes, I will be ready for a new beginning on the 22.I love buying storage containers, but they seem to keep getting filled with junk. :confused3 :confused3

good morning everyone. Garage is mostly done still no sign of my birth certificate though so I have to order it today and PRAY that it gets here by Thursday :(

the D in DH doesnt stand for dear today.

Anyway, the garage looks better I threw out out boxes of junk and stuff that no one wants anymore. Some of it went to freecycle ( well our equivilant of freecycle because I dont like our freecycle group)

Also found a bunhc of old love letters from dh form when we were dating that restored him back to dear for a bit ;)

Okay, I'm with you all on this! I am normally a very organized, neat person, but I've "let it go" over the past few weeks. Thank goodness for this thread!

I also have a WHOLE ROOM of boxes, stacked floor-to-ceiling-, of stuff from our old house that I have not gone through. Most of it is stuff from our childhoods, vacations, and garage that is just sitting there. My goal is to go through every box and weed out by the end of this year.

We move into a new house in January, and have a baby coming in April, so now is the time.

I have a doctors appointment today but still hope to get that guest closet vacuumed, get all the art supplies organized in it, and clean up that room. It also houses our treadmill, and the Doc says I should be able to work out by now (and I neeeeed to) so I need to get all that organized. I also think I will work on the kitchen. I bet there is a garbage bag full of stuff just waiting for me in there.
We are doing so great! I am glad that this is working out!

I am still working on moving my files from the front room back to the office. The electrician is here working so we should be able to move our other desk and computer back there this evening. I might actually not mind if someone steps in the house within a couple of days:)

OK I am still going at DS1's room. I have four boxes of stuff that is ready for storage. Poor DH just called to say he is off tomorrow. I don't usually give him "honey-dos" but tomorrow he WILL find a home for those boxes.
My break is done & I'm off to finish the last bits of DS's floor. I have a bunch of stuff for Ebay now. Puzzles, out-grown clothes that sort of thing. I have already warned him that he will hear from me if I see things not being put away in there. I promised him one of those egg chairs from Target and a floor lamp for reading.
