"The DIS board".... too much trouble?

Do You Explain THE DIS?

  • I don't explain. People just think I'm a font of information!

  • I explain it thoroughly.

  • I don't really explain it... just say something like you learned it on the Net

  • I say I learned it on THE DIS and continue to use abbrevataions like DH and DD to confuse them!

I think I could re-write that poem "Everything I Needed to Know About Life I Learned on the DIS!" I have gained tons of useful and useless knowledge over the past couple of years here!

BUT, when I go to tell someone something I learned here, I usually stop because it's too much trouble to "explain" where I got my information or why I would trust an Internet stranger and take his/her advice. Or they are not technically savvy to understand.

So what do you do? It's so easy to say, "My friend on the Dis boards says we should eat at blank when we go to Chicago." Or "I got this cool blank from an exchange on the Dis boards," etc.!

I don't know....what do you do? Do you explain "The DIS?"

Well, my family understands The Dis.
How could they not with all the good info I've gotten here. ;)

For other friends I usually just go with "an internet friend"

Are you kidding? They all aready think I am a nut case for going back to Disney every year...

Ive been doing Disney Message boards for so long - I just say "my message boards" and my people know what / who Im talking about. :thumbsup2

Sad, huh? :teeth:

my friend used to laugh at me , thought it was silly when I'd tell him about stuff I learned from these boards. Now he's the first one to say "talk to your peeps and find out what you can"

I go with the "friend on my message board" or "this message board I am on"

Good friends know it's a Disney board, but to others it sounds kinda normal!

I used to try and explain and I just got a blank look on their faces, so I gave up. And you know what? A little part of me doesn't want to share DIS! I like having a place that's all mine to share with new friends!

They already think I'm a nut case when it comes to Disney... so I usually say "a friend"... you are all my friends...right??? :thumbsup2

I don't explain. I just say "I am all seeing and all knowing" ;)

Like your new poll, Beth.

I answered the option, read about it on the net. My DH and kids know about it but even they think it is absurd how much time I spend here.

They humor me though. They don't have much choice. :teeth:
I get very cranky when I go too long between DIS fixes. They have learned the hard way.

Imagine trying to explain it when you tell them you "work" there too! Most of the time you get a "huh??" "You work for free?"

My friends already think I'm a crazy Disney nutcase, there's no way I'm telling them about the DIS. They thought I was insane for going back to Disney in February after my January trip. If they found out I posted on a Disney message board, they'd probably want to spend me to see a therapist.

Same here. I'd lose ALL credibility with my friends if they knew about my DIS board obsession. From then on all I'd ever hear would be "oh, don't listen to Veronica...she's special...you know, she posts on a Disney message board."

:rotfl:

:lmao: :lmao:
I have given up on explaing the Dis to people...although I did convert my friend jb (jbreamer) who then converted her mom(kbmoo) and sister (FairlyOddFairy) and on down the line.

At work they think I'm  so now I just say a friend told me or that I heard such and such. My family on the other hand just calls it the boards...that is what you get with non internet savy parents(my mother can't even work a mouse). Plus now at work I find myself just saying I'm going to FL vs saying I'm going to WDW. It is too hard to explain sometimes to people especially those who have never been.

:rotfl: :rotfl: Ohhhh, I so know where you are coming from on this. Luckily most of my friends just accept my obsession adn love me anyway. Of course, one of them did scoff at me and say "Yeah, right." when I told her after our Feb 06 tri that we were not going back until Feb 08. Of course, she had the last laugh 'cause I am goin' back for free dining.

I just say I read it on the internet. To my close friends and family I say I read it on the message boards I go to. Since I don't go to Disney often (I came here when I was planning my 2001 trip and never left even though I haven't been able to return to WDW) it's hard to explain why I'm on a Disney message board. People don't seem to get the whole chit chat about anything community board angle.

I simply say, "I have a friend..."

I would never admit the info was from a message board... I'd lose all credibility :lmao:

I CALL EVERYONE ON THE DIS BOARDS :disrocks: "ALL MY FRIENDS".... :thumbsup2

YUP! You are all my friends. I know people will NOT understand and so YOU ARE ALL MY FRIENDS!!! :teeth:

I get so much fabulous info on here then if I repeat anything...I start by saying ..."I was talking to my FRIENDS, and ......"!!!!
DH says to me "come and watch some TV with me"...."No, I am talking to my friends"..... :teeth:

My fam is totally okay with my OBSESSION!!! I told DH it is the DIS BOARDS 24/7....OR I will SHOP ONLINE 24/7....."Honey, spend all the time you want online with all your friends"!!!!!!!!!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I have tried to explain once or twice - not worth the effort. But they all love the info I find here :thumbsup2 My DH just shakes his head when I am online and says "let me guess - DISboards again" But he does love when an exchange arrives and there is food inside ;)
