I think the real issue was that there often wasn't "real" debating. It was a lot of name calling and people just plain being mean.

Poeple often felt this was a place to go and vent their anger instead of place to exchange views and opinions in an adult-like civilized manner.

Too bad for DB'ers everywhere... Actually it couldn't have come at a better time for me... I'm off to WDW tomorrow... no time for debates and when I get back, I'm getting back into my night-school.

I think it's a little sad. We were just starting to get some "fluffy" debates again.

I do think it's bad timing - with the election and all, you just KNOW all that mess is coming to the CB.

I don't know about others, but I'll be spending a lot more time on the Laughing Place boards. They have a "Current Events and World Affairs" board teeming with liberals that need to be set right.

I am sorry Alex but this will alienate a number of posters from the DIS if you start to close and lock posts and threads because of content I remember a debate about censorship this falls into the category of it IMHO.

Man, when the DB guidelines were changed last year sooooo many DBers knew it was the beginning of the end for that board.

It truly boggles my mind the number of people who are saying "yeah, it was too mean over there, thanks for shutting it down! Yay Pixie Dust!" I truly just don't understand. If it's "too mean" for you, just don't go there. I'm not particularly interested in DISCliques or Pixie Dust, but you don't see me screaming "It's too superficial on the CB! It's too fake! It doesn't promote Disney travel planning! SHUT IT DOWN!"---I just don't venture over here on the CB that often.

I can't say that I'm sorry to see it go, I was afraid of going there...but....does that mean that all of those "mean and nasty" people are going to look for a new place to hang out? I come to the CB for Fluff and Stuff, don't like to see the arguments get out of control....Even if I start to disagree with someone on the CB I usually step out after a couple of remarks because it gives me really bad Karma to argue with people. I can get that at home!

If it will alienate a number of posters to lock threads, then the answer obviously is to delete the offending post and ban the offending poster. Seems pretty simple to me.

You can shout 'free speech' all you want, but it's still a private board run by a private entity. Just as it's not acceptable to have someone barge into your house and tell you how to live, neither is it acceptable to for someone to barge onto your board and tell you how to run it.

Please don't take things out of context. I said debates are acceptable on the Community board AS LONG as they stay within board guidelines.
