The DDA Trouble Free Zone Part 9

I like them better than crocs -

they don't have the bumps in them - which I find very uncomfortable -

for my everyday walking they are PERFECT - but at WDW - I did have to wear socks with them which was a little frustrating! I guess that is just too much walking with them

I just bought a 4th of July pair for myself!!!

I also found the Airwalks really comfortable. Just as comfortable as the Crocs. I wore them to US Hollywood, and my feet were just as cool and comfy as could be (I also wore a fanny pack!). I did wear socks in them, and I would recommend them to everyone.

DH wants a pair now. He saw me stay comfortable through an entire day of walking at DL and US, and he's a believer.

My mom loves hers, too. She is diabetic, and her feet are always giving her problems. She has 5 pair of Crocs and Airwalks now and wears them everywhere, even to Church.

I wish I'd known you all wanted some. My mom's Payless had tons of them. I was able to get some for all my kids. I held myself back from buying me some, as I knew Alan would roll his eyes at me. I could have gotten you all some!

Michigan was working on legislation that would make it mandatory that all schools start after labor day. Don't know the status on it. They are working very hard on increasing tourism in the state. Spent millions on an ad campaign to be aired in neighboring states & Canada.

We have that legislation in Virginia. It is called the Kings Dominion law. Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion lobbied to have it made illegal for school systems to start school before Labor Day so that they were guaranteed a workforce. Now, in order to meet minimum numbers for days of attendance school systems are having to petition the legislature to allow them to start earlier. With the bad winter weather we have had in the past few years as well as some other things that have impacted daily attendance (like 9/11) more and more school systems are being granted that permission. I foresee the law being eliminated in another 5-10 years.

You are always welcome to come to my house to pick strawberries. Our little patch is really producing. Then we also have a hedge of raspberry bushes, black raspberry bushes that are also mass producing. I had the kids out there this morning picking as fast as they could before it got too hot. I'll freeze the berries, and when I have enough, I'll make some jam. Paula, I'm going to try adding some berries to your kiwi jam recipe. I'll let you know how it goes.

DH bought me a red currant bush for mother's day 4 years ago, and it is really full of currants. I've never done anything with them, but would like to try some currant jelly. Anyone ever tried making this? Any advice?

make a four berry jam
1C of each berry (add blueberries)

And how about berry pies?
Or berries for shakes or fruit drinks?

The doctor called me about Nick's EKG and unfortunately it isn't good news. The repeat EKG showed the same problem

so now he has to have an echocardiogram (basically a heart ultrasound)

She said it could be nothing and they have already pulled his chest x-ray from January when they thought he had pneumonia and nothing on there alarms anyone - which could be good news

She wouldn't really tell me what else it could be - she was very vague about things - so I guess I will have to wait for the next battery of tests before I have any more answers

Please pray for Nick and that this is nothing major!

I will definitely keep Nick and you in my prayers. This must be so scary for you all!

My girls are in Chicago! Yeah!!! They will be winging their way back to the UP in about 1/2 hour. They'll be back in the U.P. in a little over 2 hours. Double Yeah!!!! They said it is nice being able to understand the people around them and be able to read the signs.

Hi everyone--
HAPPY FRIDAY! i am finally all caught up and hopefully can start posting a lot again. I dont have any plans this weekend and i am thrilled--cant wait to just relax!

i start more summer classes wednesday night so i figure i might as well relax now! i Just got my grades for 2 of the 3 classes i took already--both As!!! im so glad the sciences are done!!

Ok, everytime I look at June's picture with Goofy, I remember that I need to get my picture with Goofy when I go to the Kingdom. The problem is I'll probably forget when I go in December. So, let's remind each other before we leave on our trips. Debbie, if you come back before your trip, don't forget!!! Everyone else needs to remember that too! We need to create a gallery of all the DDA women & couple of men with their families with Goofy!!!!!! Glynis & Paula, where is the picture going to be at Disneyland? We need to make sure Kate knows before she goes on her trip!!!

My guess would be the Partner's statue in the Main Street Hub. Either that, or in front of the flowers at the entrance.

Ok, I'm absolutely furious. I just got a call from Katrina. There is a "slight" problem she says. Grandma doesn't have a seat on the plane and she might not be able to come home tonight. I'm furious with the airline. It would not let me book the seat numbers when I made the reservations or before they left. They told mom & the kids not to worry about seat assignments when they checked in to fly to Japan. They just told my mom to be optimistic that 3 people don't show up for the flight. OPTIMISTIC!! I'll give you optimistic! I realize that Becky isn't exactly young but mom is still flying with a minor. Becky & mom were booked on one reservation and Katrina was booked on another. How Becky got a seat I don't know! I'm also upset with mom and the kids. I told them to make sure that they were given seat assignments before they left the states. I told them that I was concerned this might happen. Did they listen to me? That would be NO!

Now mind you, the girls & mom are fine with the turn of events. Katrina's boyfriend is picking her up at the airport anyway so Becky can just stay with Katrina for the night. Mom can fly in tomorrow, pick Becky up and then they can drive to Engadine. They are all wondering why they called me because it just upset me. Well, DUH! The airline had better pay for mom's room for the night and some meals. The airline had also better give my mother a free ticket or something for her trouble. No matter what they do, they will be hearing from me!

I can feel my blood pressure rising. Can I find a phone number to call? Of course not!!!!!

CLAM dear calm. Now you will get your point across better if you use a stern voice that is controlled. So take a beep breath and call the airline, if you are not happy with what they say go up the chain until you talk with someone who makes things right for you.
This will all work out.
Now once they all get home and your can get your hands around thier necks..... then, you can take them out for not listening to you.

I know myself well enough. I'm not calling anyone right now. They are old enough to handle it. I'll know in 1-1/2 hours whether mom got a flight or not and what the airline did for her. If the kids and mom are ok with it and the airline compensated my mother, I'll make an official complaint to the airline with all the details of the process and leave it at that. However, if they didn't I will wait for tomorrow and do as you suggested.

ETA: I probably won't say anything to the girls or mom about not following through on getting the seats before leaving, because they are old enough to live with their actions (or lack thereof).

we had a busy day - we went and got the kids pictures taken -

then we went to see Cars - we loved it!!!

Kate - Julia is looking more like you all the time (that's a compliment!!!!). Nick is so handsome. You are going to have your hands full with those two cuties as dating age approaches.

By the way, your nephew is darling, too! Congratulations!

Would you mind sharing your list? I love to keep a running list of books to read so I can check them out from our library. I'm just finishing up "Like Water For Chocolate" for our book club this next week. It's really a fun read. A Mexican tall tale/romance. I have to host book club, so I'm working out some fun treats to go along with the book. Food Network has a recipe for chocolate burritos that I'm going to try. Sounds yummy, yes?

Haven't made it, Glynis, but my Mom used to make currant jelly every year when I was growing up. I have to tell you that she was not a great "canner" so it must not be too hard. Plus... it is YUMMY!

Thursday started very sunny and I was eager to get to work. NOT.
I was going to start my stint at the front desk. This would mean that I would answer the phone, take any payments, answer the phone, try to do some of my work, (remember, I can almost type with my toes) answer the phone, and sell discount Park tickets. Since MTM heard I was going to be ticketron, he wanted to be casual.
