The DDA Trouble Free Zone Part 7

I did a dumb thing today. We had some friends coming over for an 11 a.m. playdate, so I was vacuuming. Our black lab, Libby, hates the vacuum (she has so many neurotic tendencies!) and I didn't realize she was cowering behind me and I tripped and fell on her with all my weight. I'm fine, but she cried out in pain and now she's favoring her front paw. She's letting me touch it without complaint and I've been making her sit and put some weight on it, but when she's walking, she's limping pretty bad. I'm so mad at myself and I feel terrible, but we're just going to watch it for a couple days, because we can't really afford another vet bill right now (Libby had $300 worth of allergy issues two months ago and Mickey's bladder infection/death was another $300). Please keep your fingers crossed that I didn't break our dog's leg! I feel like a total idiot!

Oh, and thanks for inquiring about our house. I wish I had good news, but nothing yet. Last night we made the decision to drop our price, since we still haven't had a single walk-through. I think what's hurting us the most is we're only a two bedroom. This is frustrating, because we have done so much remodeling and we have a lot of living space (finished basement, family room, living room, dream kitchen, in-ground pool, etc.).

Anyway, we're having another open house on Sunday, and my fingers are crossed that our weather clears up and someone decides to give our little house a chance!

Amy :)

That sounds like a lovely house!!! I hope it picks up and sells soon!!

Around here there is a glut of homes on the market under $300,000 but the ones in the$900,000 + price range stay on the market for a week and are put under contract for cash!! Yikes!!

Amy, I am so glad you are okay. Don't feel bad about Libby, I think she will be okay. The Vet might want you to do just what you are doing.

Keep the faith!! Remember, there is a buyer for every house...and I agree with dropping the price...you'll have to adjust until you get the people in. (I know-it's very hard!!!!!!!) But you WILL sell!!!!!

Ok all you creative types:

My really good friend just found out she is having a girl after 4 boys. Can we say EXCITED!!!! She is just over the moon, happy about it. Anyway, I'm throwing her a shower at the end of June, and I want it to be really nice. I need ideas for refreshments, party favors, games that aren't too embarrassing for her, etc. Let me have all your recipes, ideas, etc.

Thanks in advance. (Is it totally odd that I come here with my requests instead of asking people right on my own street?)
I don't think it is odd, at all. I am sure we are a much more diverse and varied group than the people who live on your street. After all we live in different countries or on opposite ends of the same country so we have different experiences and opinions.

For Ahead of Time
Could you possibly get everyone who is invited to make a quilt square ahead of time and then sew them together and make a quilt. Everyone would make the same size square. Obviously lots of pink but each person could decorate their square as a momento for the new baby.

Along the same lines have everyone make a scrapbook page. All about being a girl, could be well wishes, could be introducing yourself to the new baby etc. Assmeble these in a scrapbook ahead of time. Make sure you specify a size.

Pamper Pond
Have everyone bring an object to pamper Mom, it could be nail polish, bubble bath, body wash, gift certificate for a restaurant, certificate for someone to watch the kids, whatever people come up with to pamper the Mom to be. These items all get put into the pamper pond. The pamper pond could in actuality be any object the items get placed into. Everything that gets placed into the pamper pond must be for Mom's use and it must pamper and treat Mom.

Games
Dirty Diaper
Get a bunch of disposable diapers and various candy bars. Melt each candy bar in a bowl. Dump or scrape each candy bar into their own diaper. Label each diaper with a number, letter or color. Record what candy bar corresponds to each symbol you have chosen. Do this ahead of time.

At the party give each person a piece of paper with all of your chosen symbols on it. Pass the diapers around each person must guess what candy bar is in each diaper and write it on their piece of paper. The winner is the person who gets the most correct.

Empty the Bottle
Fill several baby bottles with soda, juice, etc before the party. Pick several people from the party to be your participants. See who can empty the baby bottle the fastest. They must leave the nipple on the bottle.

This might fall under the embarassment category, so perhaps you don't want to play it. When the Mom to be gets there at some point have her wrap a piece of yarn around her stomach and chop off the size that wraps completly around.

Pass a skein of yarn around at the party, everyone chops off a piece of yarn the size they think the Mom to be's belly is. Compare each person's to the one that was wrapped around the Mom to be.

Perhaps next time I shouldn't try to type and paint at the same time. Too many projects. I am off to bed. I hope those of you going to WDW, have a great trip and don't forget the sunblock.

Cake is one of the reasons that I have been MIA for the past few days. Today my baby is 7. Saturday we had a party for his friends at the gymnastics place. I baked a cake for that. Then I needed to make cupcakes for his class today and the cake for home tonight. Plus all the other wrapping, planning, etc.

I have to run, because I have gymnastics carpool today. I'll be back with details and photos tomorrow.

May 18th is getting close!!! I get to turn 42 in gloomy, rainy NYS. I wish I were going to be at WDW with all of you! I do wish those of you going a magical, happy, fun trip! Tell Mickey and Eeyore (and all the others) I'll see them in August.

Beth

Happy 7th Birthday!
Have a good cake!

Beth-Happy Birthday to your DS!!!

I finished my T's and autograph cards.

I made each child a little gift gift bag from their favorite friends. I had a package sent home to me from my last trip so I just used that box and put at label with their names over the one with my name. I had Lizzie read the label and read the return label from Walt Disney World.

Lizzie's package was in a Pooh birthday gift bag that someone had given me. It included a T & card designed by Beth (THANKS!!!!!!) and a Pooh Barbie I bought on clearance at Walmart after Christmas. I used a Hanes T and Avery for light T's transfer. I am really happy with the results. I brought the card with me on my last trip and had the Pooh characters sign it.

Needless to say, Lizzie (who spells her name Lizzy since starting school) LOVES it! And she totally believes that her friend Pooh did this for her.

BABY GIRL!!!

One idea is that you could take a roll of wintergreen lifesavers and a jelly belly bean (they work best because of the size). Hot glue one lifesaver on top the other like a handle when it’s dry hot glue a jellybean inside the flat lifesaver and BAM you have a pacifier. Add a ribbon for a necklace and play the you can say baby game or the don’t cross your legs game.

no its not totally odd.
you could make a diaper cake for the center piece you take size newborn or size 1 diapers and rool them up. then make layers. then you tye travel size lotion, baby shampoo, spoon, bib, diaper rash cream, rattle, etc. to the sides for decoration.

I love to make these, they are so cute!
