::yes:: I agree wholeheartedly! I love books... only thing is I buy them quicker than I can read them! They sell the bestsellers half listed price at the supermarket but stock changes fortnightly so you have buy them when you see them... I think I may have about 65 unread books... I always tell DH that he spends the same amount on chocloate and ice cream each week and these are my "treats"

That's a fabulous comeback! I'm sure DH pays more for his computer hard drives, and software than I do for books. I'm filing that away for future reference! Thanks!

I so know where you are coming from with the husband not doing anything for any special day. About 2 years ago the only reason I had a birthday present from anybody was because I had some extra present stuck away. He has gotten better in the last couple of years but with Mother's Day often being his or the girls birthday it gets swept under the rug.

The kids will get better as they get older about acknowlediging and wanting to do for Mother's Day and your birthday. I promise!! My girls have some super secret Mother's Day crafts under wraps right now.

I think Lizzie is going through a button pushing stage and she has your number!!

You need to let go and be thankful for the presents you got and enjoy Disney....make it a time to bond and get to know Lizzie better. As you said you felt this was a birthday present to you also.
Before we were married Brian hit home runs with my presents every time. My first birthday after we were married he picked me up after work and took me to Walmart. We ended up on the small appliances aisle and he told me to pick out the toaster oven I wanted (not a toaster, but an actual oven). I had NO desire for a toaster oven and certainly didn't have the counter space for it in our little kitchen so I politely turned him down and asked him to take me to dinner instead. He swore that I told him I wanted a toaster oven.

Fast forward about 7 years and there is a big box for me under the Christmas tree. I opened it to find what else???...a toaster oven :lmao: . In his defense it was also a rotisserie and something else. I laughed and said "you finally managed to give me the toaster oven." He said, "you said you wanted one!" I just laughed and made the best of it. I know he really believes that I wanted that freaking toaster oven!

Dawn - it is hard to get mad when they are being so cute even if they strike out on the gift!!

She is definately testing her limits. This is an issue that your dh needs to deal with. If you hadn't overheard the conversation then you wouldn't be hurt at all, but he knows the whole situation and should put his foot down and dish out the consequences. If she gets away with this, knowing how it has hurt your feelings then there will be more to come in the future. JMHO.

Deb

I totally agree! This is not acceptable. I hope you get it resolved quickly!

Jim tried giving me a troll doll for our first Christmas as man & wife. He swears that I said that I like troll dolls. Uh, no!!
It's his birthday today and we went to the Nuggets game and a production of Hello Dolly! the last couple of weekends. So when my grandma asked what I was getting him for his birthday, I said he got it. I love most musicals but Hello Dolly puts me to sleep, he wanted to go see it,so I got a nice nap in. :teeth:

That's too funny that you brought this up! I am a fanatic about musical theater, and Hello Dolly is by FAR my least favorite. I just can't enjoy it :confused3

Your timing is hilarious though, as I literally just watched the movie last night with Kyle though, as it's his favorite musical too!

Here you go Clare. If I could make it rain pixie dust, it would pour all over you.
:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Aww that's a real sweet thing to say :)

Thanks for all the dust from everyone else too.

I've got the other two assignments to worry about now... the ones we got an extension for... our tutor went off sick after setting two really woolly questions - hence the extension - and he just came back today and gave us an outline for what he expects from an answer... I interpreted that so far off track! I'll be glad next Thursday when they're all handed in!

Hello everyone! I'm caught up again! It's tough to go to bed early for once, then have to wake up early, get the kids off to school, DH off to work, twins dressed and do the weekly shopping before I can play on the DDA.

Paula - I still have no idea what the SSP's are, but I'll patiently wait until Aug 1 for you to announce them. Well, I'll wait, but probably not patiently as patience is not my strong suit! I'm sorry that your DH won't be home on Mother's Day! I'm sure you'll still have a wonderful time with your daughters, though!

Denise - I'm hoping that things at the dentist went well for Rees. I hate taking my kids to the dentist. They don't enjoy it, either. We just switched to a pediatric dentist, though, and things seem to be better for us all! He's wonderful!

Deb - tonight's picnic sounds wonderful! What a fun way to spend time together as a family! I'll also pray for good weather for your campout this weekend! I know you've put a lot of planning into this weekend, and it would be a shame for it all to be rained out or cancelled. Congrats on an empty PM box, that's a great achievement!

As for husband's and gifts, well, let's just say that Alan tries, but doesn't always hit homeruns. Usually he forgets my birthday until the night before. He'll run to Walmart and get some horrible bubble bath or something equally generic. I've learned that I need to put a list of what I want in his hot little hand if I want to get something I'd really like. Same with our anniversary and Mother's Day. In fact, I'll probably be shopping for my own mother's day stuff on Saturday. Oh well, he's such a good guy in other respects, that I guess I can let this slide.

I'm going to send more :wizard: for these assignments. It's a terrible feeling to misunderstand what the teacher wants. I hope you get them done to your satisfaction!

DDA Family -- you so rock! Thank you so much for the words of encouragement and PD sent Andrew's way. Andrew had another good game. He was the only one that hit the ball, although they threw him out at first. He walked once, and had no errors on defense. They lost 9 - 5, but overall it was a huge success and another step forward in his self-confidence.

I asked him what he'd like to say to you all. It seems like he has been listening to me. My advice to him before each game is to try his hardest and to have a good time. This is what he said to say:

"Thank you for supporting me. We lost, but we tried our best."

It's not an eloquent speech, but for a child with an expressive disorder, I think it's pretty perfect!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for thinking of him and sending good thoughts for an esteem-building game.

   Go Andrew!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

And I think he hit the nail on the head with his "speech" seems very mature sensible and eloquent to me :thumbsup2

May 6th - same as Baloo's DH Joe.

BTW....were you looking for the price on the DVD's? They were $79.99 for a set of 5 (MK, AK, MGM, Epcot, and DL). They don't give the Disney Visa or AP discount on DVD's or CD's at World of Disney.

Mrs.Heg - You wanted ideas for your daughters party food. Well, you came to the right place. I spent some time last night looking through my stuff and came up with some sweet and savory ideas for you.

First of all, if you want to keep to the school theme, you can take a package of Fig Newtons (or any flavor) and use black icing to pipe designs and titles on them like books. Those are cute. We do them for a back to school activity in our neighborhood, and they are a hit!

Anyway, here are some recipes. I have quite a few, so I'll break my posting into sweet and savory!

Barbecue Chicken Bites

1 egg
2 Tbs. milk
4 C. bbq potato chips crushed
1/2 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, cubed
barbecue sauce

In a shallow bowl, whisk egg and milk. Place potato chips in another shallow bowl. Dip chicken in egg mixture, then roll in chips. Place in a single layer on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until the juices run clear. Serve with barbecue sauce.

Sweet and Sour Smokies

2 pkg. Li'l Smokies
2 cans cherry pie filling
1 can pineapple chunks
3 Tbs. brown sugar
Place sausages in a slow cooker. In a bowl, combine the pie filling, pineapple and brown sugar; pour over sausages. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours.

Pizza Corn Dog Snacks

1 pkg. frozen corn dogs, thawed
1/2 C. pizza sauce
3 Tbs. chopped olives
1 jar sliced mushrooms, drained
1/4 C. shredded mozzarella cheese

Remove sticks from corndogs; cut into 1 inch pieces. Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Spread with pizza sauce. Top with olives, mushrooms and cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the corn dogs are heated through.

Sweet and Spicy Meatballs

1 large bag frozen meatballs
1 large (32 oz.) jar of grape jelly
2 jars Heinz chili sauce

Fill crockpot with meatballs. On stove, over medium heat in a saucepan, mix jelly with the shili sauce until they smooth together. Pour over the meatballs. Heat on high for 3 hours stirring every 30 minutes.

Cranberry Kielbasa

1 pound kielbasa
1 bottle seafood cocktail sauce
1 can whole berry cranberry sauce

Heat sauces together. Cut the kielbasa in chunks and add to the sauce. Heat through.

Applesauce Sausage Bites

2 pounds smoked sausage, kielbasa or li'l smokies
1 C. applesauce
2/3 C. brown sugar
1 small white onion, finely chopped

Cut sausage into bite sized chunks. In a large baking dish, combine applesauce, brown sugar and onion. Stir in sausage and toss to coat. Bake, uncovered, at 325 degrees for 40 minutes, stirring once during cooking.

I'll post the sweet stuff next!

It's kind of funny as I wouldn't want an appliance either, but my dh would be happy with any power tool, my dad and brother too. We just have to remember that men are from a different planet :lmao:

Here's the sweet stuff!

Sweet Cheese Ball

2 pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/2 C. powdered sugar

Warm Strawberry Fondue

1 pkg. frozen sweetened sliced strawberries, thawed
1/4 C. half and half cream
1 tsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
Angel food cake cubes and fresh fruit

In a food processor or blender, combine the berries, cream, cornstarch and lemon juice; cover and process until smooth. Pour into a saucepan. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until slightly thickened. Transfer to a fondue pot or mini slow cooker; keep warm. Serve with cake and fruit.

Butterscotch Fondue

1/2 C. butter or margarine, cubed
2 C. packed brown sugar
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 C. light corn syrup
2 Tbs. water
1/4 C. English toffee bits
1 tsp. vanilla
Angel food cake cubes and fresh fruit

In a large saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, milk, corn syrup and water. Cook and stir over medium heat until smooth. Remove from the heat. Stir in toffee bits and vanilla. Transfer to a fondue pot or mini slow cooker; keep warm. Serve with cake and fruit.

Sweet Snack Mix

1 pkg. M&M's
1 can whole cashews
1 pkg. yogurt covered raisins
1 pkg. dried cranberries
1 C. miniature pretzels
1 C. chocolate teddy grahams

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Store in an air tight container.

If you need anything else, let us know. I've got some fun cookie recipes, too.

Great! I'll add it now. And thanks for the price on the DVD set! I wonder if they give a discount in the parks? Anyone know?
