Hi, everyone,

I haven't been on since Thursday, but have been reading along as I can, and have been thinking of all of you! Here's some :grouphug: :wizard: for those that have been feeling ill or down. You guys had me :lmao: over some things, which I can use right now. :cheer2: for all those with trips planned. What I wouldn't give to escape to WDW right now!!!!

Just to let you know what's been going on with me - my summer intern program starts in less than 2 weeks, and my new assistant quit on me Saturday. In hindsight, it's somewhat of a blessing, since I don't think she was ultimately going to cut it. Her reason for quitting - she just didn't want to work that hard or have all of this responsibility. In a nutshell, she is someone with a masters degree that wants to sit and file her nails all day and get off at 5 p.m. Definitely not who we need for our department, and also definitely not the way we portrayed the job!!! How could someone hear over and over "the next few months are going to be utter chaos, we need everyone to give 150%, be as efficient as possible, etc.", and think, "oh, but I'll still get off work at 5 everyday, and I can take 3 days to complete a project that should have taken me 2 hours." I don't think I've ever met a more moronic 25 year old!!! :furious:

My favorite comment when she was giving me the news that she was quitting - she said, "remember when I told you that I had decided not to teach?" (She is teaching a college course at our local university this semester, and told us in the interview that after doing that, she discovered that her passion lay more in being in a business environment on a daily basis.) After I responded in the affirmative, she said, "well the real reason I didn't want to be a teacher is that I didn't want to have to do lesson plans at night." :rotfl2:

But, I'm still holding on to the silver-lining in all of this - my former assistant who is now a schoolteacher has agreed to come work with me this summer once she's done with school. It's not a perfect solution, but she's a close friend, is incredibly smart and efficient, and will be of a great help. I think we're going to hold off in the interim on hiring someone else f/t, since I'm not trusting mine or my director's judgment right now!

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest! Hope everyone's day is going better!
I'm sorry that you are going through all of this crap. Hopefully soon enough your old assistant will be back with you again and you will be more efficient than ever!

Hey

the doctor has no idea what is going on and decided to send Nick for a CT Scan - so we headed to Children's Hospital and he was uncooperative and freaked when they put him in the machine so he will have to be sedated - unfortunately he had eaten a few hours before and he has to go 8 hours without eating - so we could wait until tonight to see when they could fit us in or go back tomorrow at 12:30

we decided to wait - I think it is good the doctor doesn't feel the test is urgent - and she told me she really does not expect the test to find anything but she really wants to rule out all the "yucky stuff: (her words) first

I am doing my best to keep the negative thoughts out - but they of course creep in every once in a while

she told me obviously the first concern is a brain tumor with the symptoms - but he does not present as a child with a tumor - his motor skills and function is normal - but she would rather be safe than sorry

So I am in for a long 24 hours as I am sure I will not sleep well - please keep Nick in your prayers!!
Prayers for Nick being said. :wizard: :grouphug:

The doctor still hasn't called. I called them an hour ago and left a message. I'm a nervous wreck. I wish they'd hurry up!!!!!!!!!

I am sitting here trying not to cry or drive myself crazy

I really thought Nick was better - he wasn't himself today but certainly better and I knew that since he had a fever of 102 or higher for 4 days - he wouldn't be up to par yet -

he cried when we went to get Julia from school and really would pick resting over anything else

tonight he seemed to really perk up and was actually driving me crazy at bedtime - I was so happy - he seemed more like himself -

and then all of a sudden he grabbed his nose and said not again - my head hurts mommy -

I am so frustrated - what could it be - I talked to my BIL who is a doctor and he said that even though his sinuses were clear of fluid - it doesn't mean they weren't inflamed and I should give it a few more days before I panic and go to the doctor again

I just hate that he is in pain and I wish I knew what to do for him
:wizard: :wizard: I know this must be so frustrating not knowing how to help your little one. :grouphug: ?I hope this gets resolved soon. Prayers for Nick and his mommy.

Why is it when you're waiting on important news, that's the time they take the longest? The doc's office did that to me when I had my pregnancy test with Kaelyn. After about the 5th time of calling, the poor receptionist took pity on me and tracked someone down to tell me that yes, I was pregnant. LOL

I filled up the Cherokee today to the tune of $50 and it wasn't even completely full. Insane I tell ya!!

Can I tell you that Samoas Girl Scout Cookies go really well with a glass of red wine! :)
NO Just Kidding. I purposely didn't order GS cookies to help me stay on track with my eating healthier and trying to lose weight. :guilty: Of course DH keeps asking about them which is causing me to crave them. :badpc:

Let's think positive that if it was REALLY bad - he would have called by now!!!

I bet he will call soon as he finishes up office hours!

No - I think we should all pull out our worst labor and delivery stories!!!

Seriously though - why do women do that?

I just asked someone that same question the other day! Why would you even think to tell a stranger the bad labor stories? That ranks right up there with the strangers touching your belly epsecially without asking. WHY?!?!?!

The doctor just called with the results from all his tests. It is a mixed bag. Rees refluxed 22 times during the 48 hour period. He shouldn't reflux at all with the Fundo, so the reflux is breaking through. The doctor said he feels that it is borderline with what to do. He would prefer to hold off on surgery until Rees is older, so that the Fundo would hopefully last through adulthood. The Fundo tends to break down as kids grow, so the longer you can wait the better. So the good news is he will not have surgery immediately. But the bad news is that there is a problem again. We will try to manage it with diet and medicine until the point that doesn't work anymore. We are to watch Rees for failure to gain weight, asthma attacks, pneumonia, and episodes of vomiting/retching. I'm glad we know what is going on now, but I feel like we are caught in the middle at this point. So, I'm kind of happy, but not at the same time. It's hard to explain. I guess we're in limbo.

I appreciate so much everyone's prayers.

Doctor just called. Mixed news. Rees is definitely refluxing again. He had 22 episodes over the 48 hours. So it is there again. He shouldn't be having any episodes with a Fundo. Said right now he'd keep him on meds and try to hold off on surgery until he's bigger so that hopefully it would last until adulthood. So good news, no surgery. Bad news, there is a problem but we're going to try to manage with meds and diet and hold off on surgery. So, I'm kind of happy, but not. It's hard to explain. It feels like we're in limbo.

I'm sure the mixed results are frustrating, but at least Rees won't have to go through the discomfort of surgery right now. Maybe if it has to happen when he's older, it will be a lot easier on him, and he hopefully won't have to have it done again.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: that the meds do the trick in the interim!!!!

Denise - I'm glad that you finally have answers, even though they weren't what you were looking for. It's a tough spot to be in, but maybe since you are now aware of the problem you will be able to manage it. When he went through those terrible pains the other week, you weren't aware that you needed to take preventive measures.

I know it is hard, but try to be positive about the news that he doesn't have to go through the awful surgery with summer vacations and kindergarten coming up. He's going to be going through enough stress with that!

Any one else besides me listen to www.live365.com?

I have Sorcerer Raido on right now. :)

I love Park Hopper Radio on Live365. Unfortuantely, I can't use it at work. Luckily, though, someone on TheMouseforless gave me some URLs (the number kind) for Subsonic that I can pull up through Media Player. Now I get my Disney parks fix all day when I'm stuck at work. It definitely makes the day a little happier and go a little more quickly. And for Paula and Glynis' sake...I love that this station seems to have a lot more DL stuff than Park Hopper Radio does.

Well said, Tammi!

Denise, I know it's going to be tough to watch Rees go through this, but like someone said earlier, perhaps this is for the best. As he gets older he may be able to handle surgery better. If you are prepared with diet and medication, then it will make things that much easier with him being so young and easily stressed right now.

At least you won't have to deal with surgery on top of the WDW trip. That's a good thing, right?

Thanks. It sounds neat with all the stuff to do. I did tell DH I would miss being able to go to the ocean in the summer and the mountains in the winter. But we would get more than 2 seasons rain and summer. Hard to decide. We'll be talking about it. Of course, I reminded him I would still require trips to DL even if we move. :goodvibes

And you would be closer to WDW so you could do that more easily as well. You can easily get flights around $150-175 to WDW (or drive 16 hours). Flights to SoCal run about $175-$200. I can't help much with the ocean or mountain parts though.

The boat to DTD takes about 20 minutes. It runs fairly often at night and a little more sporadically during the day. Vicki- do you have better times for this? We never waited more than 10 for one last fall when going down there at night.

The boat runs on a schedule which is posted which I like. When we are there at the beginning of March, it runs every 1/2 hour if I remember right. 20 minutes is the length of the trip. We found that it was faster for us to take the boat back from DTD rather than the buses. We've made the mistake twice (yes, we didn't learn our lesson the first time) of being on a time schedule and waiting for the bus. We waited like 20 minutes one day and then it had to stop at Typhoon Lagoon first and then POFQ finally arriving at POR.

The only time we've ever had problems with the buses is from DTD back to the resort but we are there during the average season and at night if leave right after a park closes. I'm not sure if the free dining will make it more like peak season.

I travel (& drive) alot for work. I prefer to have someone else do the driving while I'm on vacation. However, in Denise's situation, I would probably rent a car.

I really do LOVE this resort. It is one of the cons against DVC since we would no longer be able to stay there cost effectively.

I think if you were to stay at POR, you would all have a great time. I'd request the alligator bayou section closest to the main building. That also isn't far from the bridge to the island where the pool and play area are located.

How would you get to early character meals? Take a taxi? Would that be the quickest route? since we'd be saving so much money, maybe rent a van for the week? Or just pay for a taxi those few times? I don't want to have to go the MK and then get a bus to the resorts or go to DTD to catch them.

How long is the boat ride from POR to DTD? Does it run fairly often?

We always stay at AllStars and have had no problem getting to an 8am pre-park opening character meal. We usually catch the bus around 7-7:15 and get there with plenty of time to spare. Our MK bus has dropped people at Contemporary for early Chef Mickey's seatings as well.

I'm not a vet but when we called they told us POR Aligator Bayou was the one that would accomodate 5. We have water view but I would also like to know if there is a specific building to request. Have you guys heard if you'll have to go to court?

We aren't in the room long enough to care about the waterview so we just get a standard view. We always request 1st floor and have received it (with no extra charge). I love building 38 so we've always requested it and stayed there. You have to cross Old Man Island to get to the main building though. It is the first building to the right after coming off the island. It is also near enough to the North depot that we usually get on & off there. When we are there, we are usually the 2nd stop being picked up (West, then us) and they stop at South (the main one) after us. This is nice because then you don't have the people shoving & pushing in line. I've read many posts on the DIS boards where they picked up South first so I'm not sure if it changes for different seasons or not.
