Well, I do have one, but not as bad as it could be! And I'm a darn proud Southern gal. I can't imagine dealing with all that snow. Yuck!

ETA: so would it be better if I typed Southern? Would ya like it if I talked on here like I do in real life? I can do that, if ya are wantin' me to. I jus' didn't think y'all yankees would understand whats I was referrin' to when I said stuff. Maybe Dawn, Julia, and Lynn would catch on, but thems Southen' too, ya know what I mean?

OMG I'll fit right in.
I grew up In central Illinois.
I swear we talk just like that.
Also ate a lot of known southern like food beans & ham hocks, cornbread, blackeyed peas, fried cat fish, orka, fried green tomatoes.
Need I go on.
Now I really am hungry.
Has anyone ever had, better yet have a receipe for fried mush?
I lost all my Grandma's receipes.

Sounds like you had a great time! The fireplace looks wonderful :thumbsup2

Hi all!

While you were chatting we had our first fire in our outdoor fireplace last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DH spent all last summer building our patio and the fireplace and we finally finished it the weekend before we went to WDW. By the time we got back it was too cold in the evenings to enjoy it :(. The whole block came down to help us celebrate- we had a ball!
Here's a picture of it:

It's a lot like the S2 IS. It has an automatic setting, but then you can do about half the stuff manually that you can do with a manual camera. I have a manual film camera that I bought in college and read websites, etc to try and teach myself. I have a basic knowledge of manual photography, so it was fun to try and use this camera that way! The camera you have is a good one! I looked at it for quite a while, and only ended up with this one because I have XD cards galore, and Canon doesn't support them... and those suckers are EXPENSIVE! I felt like i needed one more camera to use with them, but after this one I might look at other brands. I wish this one did take SD media, because it's less expensive! But I'm happy enough with the Fuji :)
I'm going to try to sit down tonight and read the book so I can experiment tomorrow. I have no photography experience.

Any advice?

I can relate to this, dh is a construction worker :teeth:

Here in Chicago we only have 2 seasons: Winter and Road Construction! :rotfl2: (But since the latter pays the bills in this house I can't complain!)

OK, I am really going now! Have a great day!

Those look yummy!

Um... just experiment! Today was my first time using any manual settings with a digital camera, and boy is it NICE! The LCD screen obviously isn't exactly what your print looks like, but it's really close. So the nice thing is, you can take something like fireworks, moving water, sports, etc with a variety of shutter speeds and see instantly which direction you need to go to accomplish your goal. Even if you don't have a goal, you can see what the different settings do without a) wasting film and b) having to wait until the pictures are developed, and then try to remember what was what, etc! :rotfl:

I think your users' manual should have a good basic explanation of the shutter speed, aperture, etc concepts. Nothing that would make you or I a professional obviously, but at least gives you a place to start! Generally speaking, a slow shutter speed "blurs" action. So the really great pictures on the photography board of fireworks (or a good landscape picture of a waterfall) that show the whole motion of the firework were taken with a slower shutter speed.

For example this:

Vs this

The apterture (f-stop number) is how much light gets into your camera's lens. The only thing I know how to do with that is change the depth of field. A larger aperture will sort of blur the background and really focus on the subject, whereas a smaller one will give equal consideration to the foreground, background, etc.

Hmm.... anyone else better at photography that can clarify my jumbled mess?! :rotfl:

Hopefully your manual is well-written ;)

Like I said before I went off on a tangent, my best advice is to take lots of pictures... you can always delete them! :thumbsup2

Maybe you cooked them too long?

According to Emeril, the perfect boiled egg is:

covered with 1" of water and a pinch of salt
bring to a boil on medium heat
boil for 2 minutes
take off heat, cover and let sit for 11 minutes
drain and rinse for 2 minutes in cold water

This is what I used to boil ours today - I'm "challenged" in the kitchen :teeth:

I thought that maybe I cooked them too long too, but they yolk wasn't even done yet either :sad2: ....

Glynis, I made the Strawberry Daiquiri as a cake. It's in the oven now, but it's taking longer than the time listed on the recipe. I hope it turns out good.

Also, I used real rum per DH's request.
