I'm caught up with all today's news. Amy, Congratulations on hearing the heartbeat without any difficulties. That always made my day. I know you're disappointed about the weight, but the little guy is growing. :cool1: Thanks again for organizing the memorial donation for Kate and Nancy. It certainly seems to have changed the mood for Kate and for this thread. I can definately see a happier tone today.

PLD have a great trip. I am so envious. We have been checking out all the DVC accommodations and can't wait for our first trip home. Unfortunately it isn't until June 2007 :guilty: . I will have to live vicariously through you and all my other DDA family until then. Take lots of pictures and great notes for your trip report. :rolleyes1

Here is some more :grouphug: :grouphug: and :wizard: :wizard: for those in need of it.

Kate it is great to see you posting today. You brightened my day.

Deb

Amy - thank you for organizing and taking charge of the memorial donation for Kate and Nancy.
Kate - Good to see you smiling again. :sunny:
I have decided I hate ding fares. :badpc: :badpc:
I was in charge of airfare so I kept holding off waiting for a ding fare. Well, stupid me didn't realize that ding fares weren't going to come out for the days we were traveling. If we could leave 1 day early & come home one day later we could cut our air fare in half. But, the boys are already missing two days of school & they gave my brother a hard time last year when he pulled them out for 3 days, so he didn't want to chance it again. So what did I get in the mailbox yesterday. A ding fare for $49 one way from Philly to Orlando. However, there are no flights available on the days we need, so I guess I was smart booking when I did.
I know, I will start planning another trip. :yay: that's a great idea. :cool1:

I made a new design for my signature today. Here is the larger version.

I also had a request for a beach club one.

I am going to learn how to use this darn PhotoImpact myself doggone it! :cheer2: :surfweb: :surfweb: I'm listening to the dumb tutorials. I'm going to post a design. Really I am... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I'm going to get in touch with my inner designer. :lmao:

To the person who asked about Pal Mickey.... I love mine. He works really well in the AK. He told us about no wait for Buzz at the MK and was right on. The newer one talked much more than mine did (I have an original) I think the newest one talks even more. The only down side is his little butt gets a tad heavy after about the 5th day for us old grandmas... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: and we left them in the room. (My DGD had loaned hers to tinker1bell. Hers was a newer model than mine but still not the 50th anniverary one...)

There's no place like home. There's no place like home. I can't wait until the CM says "Welcome Home" There's no place like home.... princess: :lovestruc

I gotta admit that when Steffy listens to the tutorial there is no moaning, no crying, or banging on the desk coming from her office :lmao:

Yeah that Pal Mickey did get a tad heavy. Also since we each had one, sometimes there was a little stereo as well :rotfl2:
One time he was a little late with info.

And thanks to Kate I now have a reason to take my ice cream maker out of it's box, never been used in 2 years so DH will probably thank you too!!! :rotfl2:

I know this is off topic, but I rarely post on any other board except this one.

My DB is a widower. His wife died about 5 or 6 years ago. He has 5 children, 3 are children that he took in as foster children and they adopted the boys before Sandy died. My Mom moved in shortly after my Dad died so she could watch the boys when my brother traveled. My brother is a business agent and goes out of town overnight a few times a month. He has not dated anyone since his DW passed away. At least not anyone that he brought home to meet Mom & the kids. Well to make a very long story short, he has brought a Lady home to meet Mom & the kids. He has been dating her since late December and they are now going out every week.

His dilemma? What does he get her for Valentine’s Day? Jewelry is probably not appropriate as they have only been dating a little over a month. I suggested flowers, candy and a book, but he doesn’t know what she reads.

I told him I would post the question on the boards & let him know the recommendations. He is 52 & I don’t know how old she is, I think in her late 40’s.

Thanks for any help you can give him. :goodvibes

Glynis - my law firm does a lot of themed "decade" parties, and I can tell you that Goodwill and thrift shops are my best friend! You can find a lot of ideas, and for pretty cheap in these stores. I know we even have one here in Dallas that had clothes grouped by decade, so it made shopping that much easier.

1970's is about the only decade I haven't dressed up for, but I would definitely think a polyester leisure suit is in order for one of you. Good luck!

Yes, I think a trip to the thrift store is in order. Funny you should mention the polyester leisure suit. I was at my parent's house this past weekend, and ended up helping my dad clean out some closets in the house. We pulled out about 10 leisure suits in all colors imaginable. They were my dad's from the 70's. I asked why he kept them all these years, and he said he was sure they would be fashionable again! We took them to his local thrift store. Too bad I didn't know about the party then, huh?

Hello all...

Just checking in...I haven't been around much and mostly likely won't be for a bit. My 91 year old father in law fell and is in the ICU. Very long story...but he isn't doing well. Very stressful, and Bill as the only child is having a hard time. We have been faced with some difficult decisions....we signed a DNR. I truly pray for a peaceful release for him...there's just no quality of life left for him. We are exhausted and functioning on only a few hours of sleep.

Hope all of you are doing well.

Kristine

Kristine - I'm sending you lots of :grouphug: . I hope it all works out for your FIL, and your DH. You'll all be in my prayers.

And if your obgyn is like mine, they weigh you before they take your blood pressure. If they want an accurate bp reading, shouldn't they do that first, before you see how much weight you have gained???
LOL! That's the truth!

When I went for my ultrasound (the week after my first visit) my OB said "well you've only gained one pound since you were here last week". I said "nuh uh, I saw you at 9am last week on an empty stomach. I've had breakfast and lunch already today. I have NOT gained any weight!" My appt next month is at 9am :teeth:

Words really can not begin to express what I am feeling right now. You are all most amazing people I have never met. :) As you all know,
I have been in such a funk and this has lifted my spirit more than you all could ever know.

I am simply overwhelmed by you all and your generosity and love.

I feel so horrible that I told you all that I would not keep designing yesterday. The best way for me to express my feelings is that I really miss our quiet little happy community that lived in its quiet little corner. Has anyone ever seen the movie Brigadoon?!?! :teeth: I know that with greater exposure - things will obviously be a little more bumpy at times.

I will of course be here to chat - because after all we are a family!! and I could never stay away from you guys.

I do need a designing break - but with that said - I really do still love to design for you guys - the people who truly appreciate it and are my friends. So if you need one of my designs I would be more than happy to pm them to you

If you click on my name in my signature you will be linked to my design gallery - but the images are not full size - I will have to pm you the full size designs. This gives me better control over my images and then I know who is using them!!!!!

Again - I can not thank you all enough - I really needed that - it is nice to know there are so many wonderful people that I know I can always count on!!

I love you all!!!

Kate

Kate, I did forget to mention the Epcot Food and Wine shirt you did with the hand to the left of Spaceship Earth. We put that on a medium shade of purple and it turned out great.

The thing about our shirts is, that almost all of them we can still wear because they have no dates. So when I am in a funk, I just put one on and I feel better right away.

So, I gained six pounds this month! The nurse tried to make me feel better and say this was the only weight I've put on, but still...

We heard the heartbeat immediately! :goodvibes The ultrasound is scheduled for February 28th.

Amy :)
To be in your 2nd trimester and only gain 6 pounds is great! I can't wait for your ultrasound :)

Was it a boy heartbeat or a girl heartbeat ;)

Kristine -- I'm so sorry to hear about your FIL. My heart goes out to you and your DH. Many prayers of strength and peace to all the family.

Amy -- congratulations on the strong heartbeat. Don't worry about the weight. That's not much at all to have gained when you're that far along. I hope the baby isn't shy during the sonogram and gives you all the information you'd like! ;)

Kristine -- My thoughts are with you and your DH right now. It is not an easy road to go down. Good luck to you all.

This is a very good question Penny. My first thought is not the dozen roses - too much. Candy is tough because she may be watching her weight (heck, I think candy is good anytime). But how about a really nice dinner and a nice card that says he's glad she has come in to his life? As you get older, the gift of time is more important than a trinket.

Let me think a little longer on this -- anybody else got a good idea??

Tiedyed shirts and bell bottoms!!

I thought about doing some tie dye shirts. Tell me, those of you who have done them; how hard are they? I know that the Mickey ones took some of you a long time. If I didn't have to sew the Mickey heads, just banded the shirts would it take a long time? Would a relative novice at this be able to handle it?

Also, for anyone who sews, I've been thinking about getting some old jeans at the thrift shop, slitting the side seam and adding some really funky fabric to make them bell bottoms. Would that work, do you think? I can picture it in my mind, but don't know if it would work when push comes to shove. Now if I could just find an afro wig for DH, it would be so perfect!

Congrats on the heartbeat, and I guess the weight gain, too. I don't think you have to worry, though. Six pounds sounds ok to me. But what do I know? I was so sick through all 3 of my pregnancies that I lost weight. My doctor told me that I was the only woman she knew who always went into delivery at least 25 pounds lighter than on the day of the first appointment. Unfortunately, all that weight that was lost during the pregnancy came back with a vengeance afterwards!

Are you feeling any better? Any other cravings, yet? How's Alyssa doing with all this? Does she know what's going on? My oldest was 2 when Jacob was born, and when she came to see me in the hospital, the nurse brought her in a present that I had bought to give her. She told Katie that Jacob wanted her to have a gift. It was a little doll, dressed just like Jacob and the nurses wrapped it in an identical blanket that Jacob was wrapped in. She loved it immediately, and never had a problem with the baby after that! Before the birth, she hated him! She would punch my stomach and scream, "no baby!" I was so worried, but all was for naught! They are inseparable, now!

We do tie-dye shirts at Girl Scout camp with the younger girls as well. Without the Mickey, it isn't that hard to do. There are several great sites on the web with different rubber banding techniques that I've used with the girls. They explain where to put the rubber bands to get the different designs.

That is exactly what I wore in the 70's - pants & all. Mom made them for me. She did exactly what you described because we couldn't afford to buy me new bell bottoms. She also added material around the bottom to match the piece she inserted to make the flare leg. You also need sewn on patches on the jeans. A peace sign one would be a nice touch.

You are right, When you are pooh sized (like me) you forget that some people shy away from candy. :lmao:
I am saving all the answers & sending them onto my brother. I was surprised he let me post it (I asked first) but he said that I talk about this board so much they would probably have good advice. :cheer2:

THanks for replying. Penny

Penny -- I think your advice was great. Flowers (maybe lilies or tulips?) and dinner are always a good idea. If he wanted to do a little something else, maybe a certificate for a pedicure, manicure, or other spa service?
