~The Daily Grind~ 4/28/09

Holly, that was cute! I think I miss the stories the most by not working at the preschool full time. You'll have to tell us what he ends up doing with this pic:)

Holly- that was a great story. And you can snack just grab some carrot sticks or other cut up vegies and fruit.

Too cute Holls!

Field trip was nice.. boring as the chaperones just stood there....it was kid orientated.. got some nice photos... we couldn't eat @ the canal b/c of rain....so we had to go back to school and eat...

Now, I'm gonna get ready to go to DD's track meet if they still have it.. she just txt'd me and said everything is still a go.

I am so relieved right now. DS came home from school yesterday telling me that he might get a 5 day suspension!!!!:scared1: Apparently on the State Competitions trip the drama group took last week and through the weekend, the drama teacher didn't keep tabs on the kids. They pretty much had the freedom to wander off to anywhere. Up until Saturday, the kids would go off in groups to lunch and dinner to places away from the convention center and performing arts center to find food. The teacher never told them to contact her and even when they did try to contact her, she had her cell phone off half the time and doesn't have voice mail. The kids were not given the cell #'s to the other chaperones. Anyway, on Saturday, a big group of kids (my DS included) got on the trolley to go a few miles down the road to the shopping area. I went to every parent meeting about this trip and in every meeting, the teacher mentioned that the kids could go there since it was fairly close to the hotel. Well, she went ballistic and told them she had called the principal of the school to let her know they had gone off without telling her. Remember, half the time they couldn't contact her anyway because she'd turn her phone off.

Well, yesterday, she pulled my DS out of class to tell him that the principal was planning to give all of them a 5 day suspension, but not until the spring musical show performance this weekend. She said she told him because he is calm and she said he wouldn't go ballistic on her and would be able to tell the others nicely. I went ballistic though!!!!!

I called her this morning, but she wouldn't talk to me. She just told me that it was out of her hands. So, I called the principal. She just got back with me and said that the students would not get a suspension because the lack of communication was the teacher's fault and she can't believe the teacher let those kids go unchaperoned the whole time and she's just thankful nothing happened. I'm so glad that she could see that the fault was not the kids, but the teacher's. I can't believe the teacher didn't take more responsibility for those kids. They may be in high school, but they are still kids. She never set up any kind of check-in system for them or anything!!! There are so many angry parents right now calling that school and I'm thinking she's in some very hot water.

Sorry this was so long, but I just needed to vent even though I'm happy with the outcome. Thanks for listening!:goodvibes

Wow- I can't believe a teacher would do that- not that i don't believe you that is just so irresponsible. I would hope the school does something to ensure that it doesn't happen again.

Rebecca

It's scary, isn't it? DS said it's like she had her own personal schedule on the trip and if any of them (the kids) didn't fit in with it, tough. She didn't even go watch half the kids perform in their pieces. Hello??? She is the drama teacher and that's what they were there for to begin with, to perform. DS said that he and the rest of the kids made sure they were at all the performances to cheer on their classmates even if it meant not getting to go to the classes they wanted to be part of.

I'm thinking they she may not be around next year. If she is, I wonder if they'll get to go on these out of town trips. If she's there and they do, you can bet I will be one of the chaperones.

OMG Dit that's just awful. i would have been so ticked! i mean really. she's responsible for those kids. it's a good thing nothing happened to them.
good for you for calling the principal. i would have for sure.

Don't beat yourself up Brooke- just enjoy them in moderation- and at least he brought the grilled instead of the fried. I had a tiny bowl of ice cream last night, I was still under 1200 calories for the day and this morning I had my first day under 155 in a few months. I was 154.5, now that is my low point- I am sure it will flucuate some in the next few days but it is very exciting none the less.

Rebecca

Rebecca, you don't even look close to 155, more like 135. Keep up the good work. You are going to be a string bean when I see you in August.

Lisa, why you going to Baltimore? Work again?
I can't wait to email you this weekend... Lots of genealogy stuff found! OMG!!! :)
I even had a photo of Mike's G-g- grandparents now!!!!!!!!
Even a photo of a quilt made by hand by his g-g-g-grandma!!
Oh, and I have a new site for you to try *you can get photos of markers from it!*

Yes, work again. This trip I found out about when I was in DC three weeks ago.

Way to go on the genealogy find!!!! That is huge!!! :thumbsup2

DIT!! :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1: And you have a good kid. Can you imagine the trouble a teen could get into who didn't keep their nose out of trouble?!!! Yikes!

I was thinking the same thing. DIT, congrats to your DS and his friends for taking up for their friends, and showing such great support!

I was reading your story and was thinking that teacher should be fired. Anything could have happened! It's just so dangerous! I wouldn't want her on any trip my kid went on after that! And, I can't believe that teacher had the nerve to try to get your DS to tell his friends instead of her. Just one more thing she didn't do right!

But really, those were some great kids on that trip!

Oh, you won't believe this!!!!! The award DS received tonight at the academic awards assembly was for Outstanding Drama Student and it was presented by the drama teacher from the trip I talked about above!!!!:rotfl2: She went on and on about how wonderful DS is and about all his hardwork and how she knows he'll be going places and has a great future ahead of him. I was very proud of him, but it felt really wierd after all my complaining today about her.

CONGRATS DIT'S DS!!!!!!!!!
we are so proud of you!!!!

Stephanie you and your dh are so very lucky to have such a wonderful son!:goodvibes

and i think that is weird that it was that teacher that gave him the award.
:upsidedow

OMG! Are you serious... I would have been po'd and did exactly what you did.. I'd be in that office up one side and down another on anyone who would listen.. it would have been something totally different had the kids been able to contact her and were just de-fying her....or they had gotten in trouble with the police or something like that....but for doing what they were told they could do... and the fact she was not able to be reached at any point in time..what did she think she was on her own personal vacation..... :headache: As for your DS, he wouldn't behave badly.. he knows he has to deal w/ you and your DH....and than he has to deal w/ all his Dis Aunties....
Oh and how convenient that the principal would hold off suspension for the musical... I wouldn't think they would give exception IF they broke school rules regardless of what event was coming up. I know when we had some kids busted for underage drinking... we had a big game..and they sit on the sidelines unable to play.... no questions asked...
We had a field trip yesterday and had 8 chaperones for 23 kids that included the teacher/student teacher. The place we went was a fitness/sports institute and they didn't need chaperones for the tour/movie...just eyes to keep all the kids accounted for....

Now to a good note, CONGRATS to your DS for such a prestegious (sp) award!!! :cheer2: How great is that.. Maybe all his DIS Aunties need an 8x10 glossy signed before he becomes famous!!!! :):flower3:

Congrats to your DS DIT, how ironic that the drama teacher gave him the award.

That story is a Law & Order episode in the making! That teacher is very very lucky nothing happened on that trip!

Congrats DIT's DS!!! :cheer2:That's awesome, although I can't believe that teacher. Absolutely unacceptable.
